[0:00] good morning and welcome to revelation

[0:01] reveal this is week number 62 and we're

[0:04] in chapter 22 of the book of revelation

[0:07] and we're excited you've taken the time

[0:09] to stop by today we're going to begin

[0:11] reading in verse number six

[0:13] and read down through verse number 11.

[0:16] the bible says and he said unto me

[0:18] these sayings are faithful and true

[0:21] and the lord god of the holy prophets

[0:24] sent his angel to show unto his servants

[0:27] the things which must shortly be done

[0:30] behold i come quickly blessed is he that

[0:33] keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of

[0:35] this book

[0:36] and i john saw these things and heard

[0:38] them and when i had heard and seen i

[0:41] fell down to worship before the feet of

[0:43] the angel which showed me these things

[0:46] then saith he unto me see thou do it not

[0:49] for i am thy fellow servant and of thy

[0:52] brethren the prophets and of them which

[0:54] keep the sayings of this book worship

[0:57] god and he sayeth unto me seal not the

[1:00] sayings of the prophecy of this book for

[1:02] the time is at hand

[1:04] he that is unjust let him be unjust

[1:07] still and he which is filthy let him be

[1:10] filthy still and he that is righteous

[1:12] let him be righteous still and he that

[1:15] is holy let him be holy still

[1:18] as we look at that first verse verse

[1:20] number six he said unto me these sayings

[1:23] are faithful and true the lord god of

[1:25] the holy prophets and his angel to show

[1:28] into the service of things which must

[1:30] shortly be done

[1:31] the beginning of the conclusion of the

[1:34] book of revelation has begun

[1:37] the angel authenticates that all which

[1:40] john has been shown and told are

[1:43] faithful

[1:44] and true

[1:45] the following phrase and the lord god of

[1:48] the holy prophets sent his angel unto

[1:50] his servants

[1:52] that the things which must shortly be

[1:54] done

[1:55] seems to refer to the entire book of

[1:58] revelation

[2:00] god in so revealing these things to john

[2:02] has made known to his servants

[2:05] to this day

[2:06] that which must shortly come to pass

[2:10] though time is passed differently from

[2:12] our perspective in god's mind the things

[2:15] revealed in revelation are impending

[2:18] if they were about to come to pass in

[2:20] john's day how much more now are they

[2:23] about to come to pass and so

[2:26] the truth and the faithful sayings are

[2:30] compared to the whole book of revelation

[2:33] in verse number seven

[2:35] jesus christ interrupts

[2:38] the angel in the situation here saying

[2:40] behold i come quickly blessed is he that

[2:43] keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of

[2:46] this book

[2:47] the major prophecy of the book has been

[2:49] concluded from here to the end of the

[2:52] book are closing comments

[2:54] quite apparently the angel concluded his

[2:56] remarks to john our lord and savior

[3:00] jesus christ as i said interjected

[3:02] himself and he said behold i come

[3:05] quickly

[3:07] now there's two major promises are

[3:08] uttered by him he promises to come

[3:11] quickly

[3:12] the word so translated is tatu which may

[3:16] refer as much to how

[3:19] he will return as to when

[3:21] it will be in a moment in the twinkling

[3:23] of an eye

[3:25] the first phase of his promised return

[3:27] is the rapture

[3:29] of the church and then the seven years

[3:31] later he will appear in power and great

[3:34] glory so he says i come quickly it's not

[3:38] just the time

[3:39] it's the process of how it's gonna be in

[3:42] the twinkling of an eye

[3:45] the second promise is of the blessing of

[3:47] those who keep the sayings of the

[3:49] prophecy of this book

[3:51] the word translated as sayings is logos

[3:55] which is the common term for the word

[3:56] word

[3:58] in effect jesus said blessings are

[4:00] promised

[4:02] for those who obey the words contained

[4:06] in this book

[4:07] now it's interesting verbal inspiration

[4:10] is also referenced here when it says the

[4:12] word sayings

[4:14] in all likelihood the promise extends to

[4:17] the entire bible not just the book of

[4:20] revelation

[4:21] jesus knew that this was going to be the

[4:24] final book of the canon of scripture

[4:26] it was the capstone of scripture he thus

[4:29] reiterates a promise found throughout

[4:32] the bible

[4:33] there's a blessing for those who obey

[4:35] god's word in fact this very promise is

[4:38] found in chapter 1 verse number 3 which

[4:41] says blessed is he that readeth and they

[4:44] that hear the words of this prophecy and

[4:46] keep those things which are written

[4:48] therein for the time is at hand

[4:52] so there's a blessing that comes

[4:54] from keeping the words of the prophecy

[4:57] it continues on in verse number eight

[4:59] and i john saw these things and heard

[5:02] them so john's personally seeing and

[5:05] hearing these things

[5:07] but then he makes a mistake

[5:10] he says in verse 8 when i had heard and

[5:12] seen i fell down to worship before the

[5:14] feet of the angel which showed me these

[5:16] things

[5:18] now here's a matter of interest john's

[5:20] guide particularly since chapter 21

[5:23] verse number 9

[5:25] has been one of the angels which had the

[5:27] seven vials

[5:29] of the final judgments of the

[5:30] tribulation

[5:32] here the angel informs john that he is

[5:34] not only

[5:36] a fellow servant of god

[5:38] but also of his brethren the prophets

[5:42] and of them obedient to god's word let's

[5:45] look at the verse

[5:46] he said in verse 9

[5:48] see thou do it not for i am thy fellow

[5:51] servant and of thy brethren the prophets

[5:54] and of them which keep the sayings of

[5:56] this book worship god

[5:59] so as we look at this the question

[6:02] therefore arises are some of the angels

[6:04] mentioned throughout the book

[6:06] in fact old testament prophets

[6:10] used by god in the climactic days of the

[6:12] tribulation to affect his will

[6:15] we know the word angel

[6:17] angelos literally means messenger

[6:21] or envoy so even as the angels of the

[6:24] seven churches in chapter two and

[6:26] chapter three of the book of revelation

[6:28] we know they're not

[6:30] angels as far as heavenly angels they

[6:32] are messengers of god they're the

[6:35] pastors of the churches

[6:37] that hear also that this

[6:40] messenger

[6:42] is a messenger of god

[6:44] but he's not of the angelic form he's a

[6:47] messenger of god

[6:49] so he's not of the heavenly race that we

[6:51] commonly call angels

[6:53] it seems that he's a prophet that's now

[6:56] in heaven impressed unto his service by

[6:59] god

[7:00] his injunction to john was simple

[7:02] worship god he would not tolerate any

[7:05] worship of himself

[7:07] now it's interesting to think about what

[7:10] happens next verse number 10 and he

[7:13] saith unto me seal not the sayings of

[7:15] the prophecy of this book for the time

[7:18] is at hand

[7:20] now

[7:21] when i prepare these series i do a lot

[7:23] of studying of the bible and i read

[7:26] other commentaries and consider other

[7:28] sources as well and one commentator that

[7:31] i read thought it would be interesting

[7:33] he doesn't know but he thought it would

[7:36] be interesting that maybe this is the

[7:38] prophet daniel

[7:40] because in daniel chapter 12 verse

[7:42] number 4

[7:43] god tells daniel but thou daniel shut up

[7:46] the words and seal the book even to the

[7:48] time of the end many shall run to and

[7:51] fro and knowledge shall be increased and

[7:53] so daniel is instructed by god

[7:56] to seal the book of his prophecy

[7:58] uh dealing with the first advent of

[8:01] christ the first coming

[8:03] and now this prophet gets to tell john

[8:06] to

[8:08] seal not the sayings so it'd be

[8:11] interesting if it was daniel

[8:14] this is a

[8:15] contrast as i said to the instructions

[8:18] given to daniel

[8:19] john is ordered not to seal the prophecy

[8:22] john is informed that the time is at

[8:25] hand

[8:27] the word translated as hand

[8:29] literally means near the thought simply

[8:32] is that the time of all thus prophesied

[8:35] was near at hand

[8:37] now i want to remind you to recall to

[8:38] your memory how a thousand years with

[8:40] the lord

[8:42] as

[8:42] one day

[8:44] the greater truth is how the time must

[8:47] be much closer today

[8:49] and so in god's calendar of time

[8:53] it's very near

[8:55] now for us it's been over 2 000 years

[8:58] since christ came to earth

[9:01] and over close to

[9:03] almost

[9:05] 2000 years since the writing of the book

[9:08] of revelation near the end of

[9:10] 70 to 90 80 era there

[9:13] and so we find it's

[9:15] coming quickly in verse 11 the focus of

[9:17] thought shifts from the prophetic back

[9:20] to the present look at verse 11. he that

[9:22] is unjust let him be unjust still

[9:25] so there's this shift back to the

[9:27] present invoked here's a warning for all

[9:30] he will hear

[9:32] it also says the thought literally is

[9:34] that he that is unjust

[9:36] be further unjust and he which is filthy

[9:39] be further filthy etc to paraphrase the

[9:42] thought likely is he that is unjust then

[9:45] be so

[9:46] he that is filthy then be so he that is

[9:49] righteous then be so and he that is holy

[9:52] then be so

[9:54] as the consummation of this life as well

[9:57] as of the ages is at hand

[9:59] jesus warned in whatever state one is to

[10:03] be careful

[10:04] he would remain therein for eternity

[10:08] for those living in sin about to enter

[10:10] into eternity they would continue in

[10:12] their filth forever if they were not and

[10:15] a child of god

[10:16] for those about to enter eternity as

[10:18] righteous and holy in christ because

[10:20] they've been saved they would also be

[10:23] confirmed therein forever

[10:25] the time is at hand christ is about to

[10:28] return

[10:29] therefore take heed

[10:31] once the wheels of eschatology are set

[10:33] in place

[10:34] it will be difficult to repent

[10:37] as the end of the age nears it's a

[10:39] culmination the spiritual state of

[10:41] mankind will soon be solidified in the

[10:44] condition they enter eternity for those

[10:47] continuing to live in sin they will be

[10:49] solidified therein to and to hell for

[10:51] those holy and just in christ they will

[10:53] be confirmed therein to in heaven

[10:56] forever

[10:57] now what that says in that statement

[11:00] that's a quote from uh dr dave sorensen

[11:03] is this

[11:04] that

[11:05] those that are living in sin that are

[11:08] unsaved are going to continue

[11:11] to

[11:12] be in eternity in sin for those of us

[11:16] that have been cleansed by the blood of

[11:17] jesus christ that have been saved we'll

[11:20] get to enjoy eternity in heaven

[11:22] but you and i that are saved we still

[11:25] struggle with this sin life and i don't

[11:27] want to meet my master my lord with

[11:30] dirty hands i want to have clean hands

[11:33] in other words i don't want any

[11:35] unconfessed sin between him and i the

[11:37] lord is coming and he's coming soon

[11:40] and so i want to be righteous in his

[11:42] eyes i want to be clean i want to be

[11:44] doing that which is right i want to be

[11:46] living a holy life and i want to

[11:48] challenge you to do the same

[11:50] so here in chapter 22

[11:52] verses 6 through 11 we see the picture

[11:55] of the end times it's wrapping up in

[11:58] fact in the next verse verse number 12

[12:01] jesus interrupts again and he says and

[12:03] behold i come quickly and my reward is

[12:05] with me to give every man according as

[12:08] his work shall be and we'll talk more

[12:10] about that

[12:11] in our next video

[12:13] but today i want you to imagine the

[12:16] scene of john being in heaven and

[12:19] finding an angel saying unto him

[12:21] don't worship me no worship god

[12:25] the allness and the greatness of god was

[12:29] so impressed upon john that he even

[12:31] erroneously fell down to worship the

[12:34] messenger

[12:35] but the messenger very quickly replied

[12:38] it's not about me it's about god that's

[12:40] pierce and paraphrase

[12:42] but it's about glorifying god and i look

[12:45] forward to eternity future paradise

[12:48] regained as we've said and the glory of

[12:51] god that awaits us in heaven so until

[12:54] next time we'll hope to see you here at

[13:01] o'clock sunday morning 11 sunday evening

[13:03] 6 p.m and wednesday nights at 7 o'clock

[13:07] we're currently in a series on sunday

[13:09] mornings going through the book of

[13:10] matthew looking at jesus as the servant

[13:13] king

[13:14] we're also on wednesday nights in a

[13:16] study in psalm 23 and we're nearing the

[13:19] end of that study we'll probably be

[13:20] wrapping it up at the end of this year

[13:22] and looking forward to finishing up that

[13:24] series had a great time in that but
