[0:03] From ABC, [music] this is World News
[0:06] Tonight with Peter Jennings.
[0:08] >> Good evening. In Iraq today, Saddam
[0:09] [music] Hussein is using whatever it
[0:11] takes to flatten his opponents. The US
[0:13] believes he now has the upper hand. And
[0:16] 35 more prisoners of war have left the
[0:18] madness behind. On the flight line in
[0:20] Saudi Arabia today, General Norman
[0:22] Schwarzoff was there to tell the
[0:23] arriving passengers from Iraq, "Welcome
[0:25] to freedom." We begin in the Saudi
[0:27] capital, Riad. ABC's Jim Berman is
[0:30] there.
[0:34] >> After winning the war, winning the

[1:06] American hospital ship Mercy this
[1:07] evening, it was clear some had been
[1:09] hurt. Major Rhonda Cornum, one of the
[1:12] two women PS broke both arms in the
[1:14] crash of her helicopter. And two
[1:17] servicemen with leg injuries had to be
[1:18] carried aboard the hospital ship on
[1:20] stretchers.
[1:21] >> Generally, they're in fair condition.
[1:24] Some have suffered from malnutrition.
[1:26] Um, all those that needed medical care
[1:29] have had medical care that in my uh
[1:32] estimation is adequate.
[1:34] >> Doctors also said that several of the PS
[1:37] were mistreated by the I
