[0:00] Senator, he took
[0:04] >> here at home. Will there be a ground
[0:07] war? And if so, when? Secretary of
[0:09] Defense Cheney and the chairman of the
[0:10] Joint Chiefs Coen Powell are in Saudi
[0:12] Arabia tonight. NBC's Mike Bcher and
[0:15] Arthur Kent are there as well. Mike,
[0:17] let's begin with you.
[0:19] Tom, Secretary Cheney and General Pal
[0:21] came to Saudi Arabia to assess assess
[0:23] where Allied forces stand now and to
[0:26] decide when to begin the next important
[0:28] phase of this war.
[0:30] Cheney and Pal already know the facts of
[0:32] this war. Instead, they were here in
[0:35] search of a gut feeling for if and when
[0:37] the ground war should begin. A sense
[0:39] that's hard to get over the phone. When

[0:54] encountered American troops who were
[0:55] anxious for news about their next
[0:57] orders. There were no specifics, only
[1:00] tough talk that indicated that a ground
[1:02] war was the most likely option.
[1:04] >> We tried to give them some good advice a
[1:05] few months ago. We told them, "Move it
[1:07] or lose it." They wouldn't move it and
[1:09] now they're going to lose it.
[1:13] to get this thing over with quickly
[1:15] using the simple process of cut it off
[1:17] and kill it and then we're going to get
[1:18] home as fast as we can. Thank you very
[1:20] much.
[1:23] >> But how and when to cut off and kill the
[1:26] Iraqi army remained unanswered
[1:28] >> alone can reduce it.
[1:29] >> Earlier while still in route to Saudi
[1:31] Arabia, Secretary Cheney for the first
[1:33] time sug
