[0:04] Allied forces blast through Kuwait
[0:06] towards the capital. An Iraqi Scut
[0:09] attack kills American soldiers in Saudi
[0:11] Arabia. And tens of thousands of Iraqis
[0:14] are surrendering in the desert.
[0:19] This is the CBS Evening News. Dan Rather
[0:21] reporting live with American forces in
[0:24] Daran, Saudi Arabia. Good evening.
[0:27] Saddam Hussein tonight ordered his
[0:29] forces to withdraw from Kuwait. Baghdad
[0:31] Radio says the decision was made quote
[0:34] in accordance with a Soviet peace plan
[0:36] unquote. That's a plan already rejected
[0:39] by President Bush and the American

[1:20] go to the White House for the reaction
[1:22] to this announcement that Saddam Hussein
[1:25] is now ordering his troops to withdraw
[1:27] from Kuwait. Wyatt
[1:29] >> Dan, as far as the White House is
[1:31] concerned, this offer is going nowhere.
[1:33] White House spokesman Marlon Fitzwwater
[1:34] just moments ago said that because this
[1:36] did not involve official contact between
[1:39] Iraq and the United Nations that quote
[1:41] unquote the war goes on. What came out
[1:43] of here, Dan? A very clear signal that
[1:45] uh that Iraq can do as it's tried to do
[1:48] this afternoon and th
