[0:23] on World News Tonight. This Wednesday,

[0:25] major fallout from yesterday's

[0:26] elections. Democrats happy, some

[0:29] Republicans happy, others beaten up and

[0:31] playing the blame game. And call him the

[0:34] governor, not the body. And our series

[0:49] explain. From ABC News World

[0:52] Headquarters in New York, this is World

[0:55] News Tonight with Peter Jennings. Good

[0:57] evening. There are some serious

[0:58] political hangovers today. Some from

[1:00] celebrating last night's election

[1:02] results. They're mostly Democrats.

[1:04] Others from banging heads against the

[1:06] wall or each other, and they are almost

[1:07] all Republicans. Both Republicans and

[1:09] Democrats can say they held pretty even

[1:12] in the governor's races, though

[1:13] Republicans lost the plum, which is

[1:15] California. There was no change in the

[1:17] Senate, which was not good for

[1:19] Republicans, who thought they would gain

[1:21] at least one seat and maybe more. And

[1:23] the big story is in the House of

[1:25] Representatives. For the first time in

[1:27] more than 60 years, the party which

[1:29] controls the White House has won, not

[1:32] lost, House seats in a midterm election.

[1:35] The reverberations from that are being

[1:37] felt everywhere today. And first, here's

[1:39] ABC's John Cochran.

[1:42] White House aids say that privately the

[1:44] president was ecstatic over the results.
