[0:23] this is CBS News continuing coverage of
[0:26] campaign 88 election night from CBS News
[0:30] headquarters in New York here is Dan
[0:34] Rather good evening and thanks for being
[0:37] with us headline George Bush is sweeping
[0:39] through the South like a tornado through
[0:41] a trailer park he is out of the Starting
[0:43] Gate very fast where he was expected to
[0:46] be in Deep Dixie our CBS news coverage
[0:48] of election Night 1988 is underway a
[0:51] night to watch to see if Michael Deus
[0:54] will confound the Pauls the polls and
[0:56] the pros and pull off the ultimate
[0:58] Massachusetts miracle winning the
[1:00] presidency or does George Bush win by
[1:03] Landslide proportions a blowout so big
[1:06] that he does what's now considered
[1:07] remote but possible put the United
[1:10] States Senate back in Republican hands
[1:12] so with that in mind let's look him over
[1:15] keep in mind the polls have just closed
[1:16] in some more States here in the East but
[1:19] as we came up to the 7:00 time this is
[1:22] the way our CBS News estimate map
[1:25] looked our CBS News had estimated that
[1:28] George Bush when all the votes were in
[1:30] and counted would have carried both
[1:32] Kentucky and Indiana the two states
[1:35] where the polls closed at 6:00 in the
[1:37] Eastern time zone now at 700 p.m. the
[1:40] polls closed in another six states with
[1:42] 60 electoral votes our CBS News
[1:45] estimates are that when all is said and
[1:48] done George Bush will have won at least
[1:51] five Bush's States turn red on our map
[1:54] daauus when and if he gets any turned
[1:56] blue the states where the polls have
[1:57] closed and but we do not yet have a a
[2:00] decision remain in white you see Vermo
