[0:02] Tonight, the Southeast in deep, deep
[0:04] trouble. Floodwaters from days of
[0:06] torrential rain forced hundreds to
[0:08] evacuate their homes.
[0:11] I'm Katie Couric. Also tonight, one of
[0:12] the most controversial voices in
[0:14] America.
[0:15] >> This guy [music] is, I believe, a
[0:18] racist.
[0:19] >> Are you sorry you said that at all?
[0:21] >> Mhm. I'm sorry the way it [music] was
[0:23] phrased.
[0:24] >> He writes the nation's tax laws, so how

[1:06] rain, enough to turn tiny streams into
[1:09] raging rivers. Georgia was hit hardest
[1:11] with more than a thousand homes flooded.
[1:13] Tonight, Mark Strassmann is in Douglas
[1:15] County, just outside Atlanta. And Mark,
[1:17] some people could be out of their homes
[1:19] for quite a while.
[1:21] >> You're absolutely right, Katie. I mean,
[1:22] take a look. This disaster for those
[1:24] flood victims is sinking in, just like
[1:26] the water into these buildings. And in
[1:28] communities like this one, where people
[1:30] had to get out, they're now being told
[1:33] to stay out.
[1:36] Just outside Atlanta, families like the
[1:38] Patels woke up in crisis. Until hel
