[0:00] Our crews are live on the Gulf Coast
[0:02] after Katrina. For continuing coverage,
[0:04] keep it on four.
[0:07] >> Hurricane Katrina, a disaster that
[0:09] shocked the world. The American city of
[0:12] New Orleans essentially destroyed. Much
[0:15] of the Gulf Coast turned into matchixs.
[0:18] Winds so strong buildings didn't have a
[0:20] chance. A storm surge so powerful that
[0:24] nothing near the water and up to a mile
[0:26] inland survived. And a tragedy so great
[0:30] that a major American city is left in
[0:32] chaos.
[0:35] No power, no drinkable water, and no
[0:38] place that's safe as anarchy reigns in
[0:41] the street and buildings burn in the
[0:43] middle of a flood of biblical
[0:45] proportions.
[0:47] Across the Gulf Coast, hundreds of
[0:49] thousands of people are homeless,
[0:51] jobless, and desperate. Tonight, we'll
[0:54] show you the effects of Katrina from
[0:56] South Florida to the Gulf Coast and how
[0:59] you can help.
[1:01] >> Now, live from CBS4, a special edition
[1:04] of Hurricane 2005 in the path of
[1:07] Katrina.
[1:11] >> Hello, I'm Brian Norcross. We'll take a
[1:13] look back at Hurricane Katrina, how it
[1:15] happened, how it went so terribly wrong,
[1:17] and how we can all help. We have a team
[1:19] of reporters from the storm zone to
[1:21] South Florida reporting on the tragedy
[1:23] there and the support growing here for
[1:26] the hurricane victims. And a lot of good
[1:28] hurricane help is coming our way from
[1:30] CBS4's Neighbors for Neighbors. Maggie
[1:33] Rodriguez is back from maternity leave
[1:34] to be part of the massive effort and
[1:36] she's with us now in the neighbors
[1:37] neighbors phone bag. Maggie, welcome
[1:39] back on uh an unfortunate occasion.
[1:42] >> Thank you very much, Br
