[0:03] today we're in revelation chapter 18

[0:06] verses 9 through 24.

[0:08] we're going to finish up the chapter

[0:10] today now for sake of time today

[0:12] we're not going to read all 24 verses

[0:14] we're just gonna dive right in

[0:16] to talking about the verses so i

[0:18] encourage you to take the time

[0:20] to look up these verses and to talk

[0:22] about them

[0:24] because these verses deal with the end

[0:26] of mystery babylon

[0:29] and the political economic destruction

[0:32] of it

[0:32] and how the world responds to that so

[0:36] the agony

[0:36] first of the world's merchants the power

[0:39] and the influence of this city babylon

[0:42] has extended to

[0:43] all nations when it is destroyed it has

[0:47] a domino effect affecting the people of

[0:50] the earth

[0:51] their market source crumbled to nothing

[0:54] listed are three different classes of

[0:56] people

[0:57] who lament over her fate number one

[1:00] class is the monarchs of the earth will

[1:02] mourn we see that in verses

[1:04] 9 it said in the kings of the earth who

[1:06] have committed fornication and lived

[1:08] deliciously with her

[1:10] shall be well and lament for her when

[1:13] they shall see the smoke of her burning

[1:16] in verse 2 and in verse 9 also in verse

[1:18] 10

[1:19] standing afar off for the fear of her

[1:21] torment saying

[1:22] alas alas there's those double sayings

[1:24] we talked about last week

[1:26] that great city babylon that mighty city

[1:29] for in one hour is thy judgment come

[1:32] they will feel the blunt of the world's

[1:34] accusation

[1:36] for the losses that the world incurred

[1:38] their rules will

[1:40] crumble as citizens pile blame on their

[1:43] leaders

[1:44] now remember the antichrist has come to

[1:46] power he's got a 10-league

[1:48] nation that is with him intertwined so

[1:51] with babylon being his

[1:53] focal outreach point these 10 nations

[1:56] somehow connected to that

[1:58] will cause a frustration to

[2:02] overwhelm the people of those nations

[2:05] maybe even a revolt of their leadership

[2:09] not only are the monarchs of the earth

[2:11] that more and the merchants of the earth

[2:12] will mourn

[2:13] in verses 11 through 16 it describes

[2:16] that in detail for us

[2:18] 28 categories of merchandise are

[2:21] mentioned

[2:22] and each will be lost for one reason

[2:24] because of god's judgment upon babylon

[2:27] because of its sin

[2:29] as they lose everything the merchants

[2:31] will lament

[2:32] because the economic hub of babylon

[2:36] has lost it's gone bankruptcy faces the

[2:39] west the stock exchanges will crash the

[2:42] banks will close the doors

[2:44] the people that put all their energy

[2:46] into humanism

[2:48] and the babylonian system that

[2:51] once said get all you can and keep all

[2:54] you can and make more of it

[2:57] will die inside when they see it go up

[2:59] and smoke

[3:01] and it's over by the way that's the

[3:02] world we live in today

[3:04] the dollar the financial gains of this

[3:07] world are here for a moment then go on

[3:10] how upsetting it is to people when their

[3:13] stocks go down

[3:14] imagine a massive worldwide

[3:18] decree of judgment of god and every

[3:20] stock is bottomed out

[3:22] and bankruptcy faces how emotionally

[3:25] distraught

[3:25] people will be feelings will run high

[3:28] much like feelings ran high in acts

[3:30] chapter 19

[3:32] verses 23-41 in that text the

[3:35] silversmiths

[3:36] began losing their trade of idol-making

[3:40] when people began to convert to

[3:41] christianity

[3:43] this destroyed their market for the

[3:45] idols of diana

[3:46] that they had made so they cared not for

[3:49] the needs of their people

[3:51] but rather their own greed

[3:54] and you look at these commodities the

[3:56] last of the 28 commodities includes the

[3:59] souls of

[4:00] men this reveals just how babylon

[4:02] stooped in order to fulfill

[4:04] her coffers with the wealth of the world

[4:08] the teachings of purgatory last rites

[4:10] masses of the death etc

[4:13] have all combined to bring enormous

[4:15] wealth into the treasury

[4:17] of the babylonian church and enslave men

[4:19] and women

[4:21] no wonder the babylonian merchants mourn

[4:23] they're

[4:24] all entrapped by the desires of

[4:28] greed and the lust for money

[4:31] the bible does say the love of money is

[4:34] the root of

[4:34] all evil notice it's the love of it not

[4:37] that money is evil but the love of money

[4:40] when that's all you crave

[4:42] it brings you to an evil heart thirdly

[4:45] the mariners of the earth will mourn in

[4:47] verses 17 through 19.

[4:49] their businesses will come to a

[4:51] standstill not because of union

[4:53] struggles

[4:54] but because the world's center of

[4:56] commerce collapsed

[4:58] their lament is purely selfish their

[5:01] sorrows grow from the fact that the

[5:03] source of their wealth is

[5:04] gone the whole reason for their

[5:07] existence will be

[5:08] gone as they watched the city burn

[5:11] would to god that christians would be

[5:13] upset as these merchants were

[5:15] when they slipped into sin or let one

[5:18] perish and

[5:19] go to hell you look at verse 19

[5:22] they say they cast dust on their heads

[5:24] and they cried

[5:26] weeping and wailing saying alas alas

[5:29] that great city wherein we made rich all

[5:32] that had

[5:32] ships in the sea by reason of her

[5:35] coastlines

[5:36] for in one hour is she made desolate how

[5:40] frustrated they are

[5:42] how discouraged they are that's what's

[5:45] happening

[5:48] in the world secondly today the attitude

[5:51] that's happening

[5:52] in heaven we saw the attitude of the

[5:54] people the agony of the world merchants

[5:56] now we're going to look at the attitude

[5:58] of those that are in heaven

[5:59] revelation 18 verses 20 through 24 let's

[6:02] go ahead and read those

[6:03] the bible says rejoice over her thou

[6:06] heaven

[6:07] and ye holy apostles and prophets for

[6:09] god hath avenged you on her

[6:11] and a mighty angel took up a stone like

[6:14] a great millstone

[6:15] and cast it into the sea saying thus

[6:18] with violence shall that great city

[6:20] babylon be thrown down and shall be

[6:22] found no more

[6:23] at all the voice of the harpers the

[6:26] musicians of pipers and trumpeters

[6:28] shall be heard no more at all in thee

[6:31] and no craftsmen

[6:32] of whatever crafty he be shall be found

[6:35] any more in thee

[6:36] and the sound of the millstone shall be

[6:38] heard no more in all

[6:40] at all in thee the light of the candle

[6:42] shall shine no more at all in thee

[6:45] the voice of the bridegroom and other

[6:46] bride shall be heard no more at all in

[6:49] the

[6:49] for thy merchants were the great men of

[6:51] the earth for by thy sorceries were all

[6:54] nations deceived

[6:55] and in her was found the blood of the

[6:57] prophets and of the saints

[6:59] and of all that were slain upon the

[7:02] earth

[7:03] in verse 20 we see the rejoicing in

[7:05] heaven

[7:06] while the rulers the merchants and the

[7:08] shippers of the world bewell their

[7:10] losses

[7:11] and all heaven rejoices all of heaven

[7:14] the apostles and the prophets

[7:16] rejoice why because it was that

[7:19] system that martyred them in the first

[7:22] place

[7:23] it was that system that hung them up to

[7:25] die

[7:26] and one by one sent them to their deaths

[7:29] in the first place

[7:30] revelation chapter 6 verse 10 they don't

[7:33] rejoice because of the judgment

[7:36] but because god has been vindicated and

[7:38] his people have been supported

[7:41] there's real rejoicing because god has

[7:43] avenged his own people's suffering

[7:46] at the hands of the apostate religious

[7:48] and commercial

[7:50] religious or commercial system romans 12

[7:53] 19

[7:53] says for it is written vengeance is mine

[7:56] i

[7:56] will repay saith the lord the rejoicing

[8:00] in heaven is the evil system has been

[8:02] brought down

[8:04] the evil religious system that we've

[8:06] mentioned to you as the revived roman

[8:08] empire through the catholic church

[8:10] and then also the the political system

[8:14] financial system of greed that's brought

[8:17] down

[8:17] through this headquartered city of

[8:19] babylon

[8:21] there's that rejoice there there's a

[8:23] ruin of babylon is decried

[8:26] there's six no mores there's no more

[8:29] city some speculate the meaning of the

[8:32] millstone to be the city itself

[8:34] sunk into the euphrates river some think

[8:37] it's jesus himself

[8:39] that when he falls upon the city he

[8:40] produces catastrophic results

[8:43] there's no way of knowing however

[8:45] suffice it to say that the city is

[8:47] destroyed by this millstone

[8:49] and shall be no more at all

[8:54] not only is there no more city there's

[8:56] no more music

[8:58] many try to escape the realities of the

[9:00] world by listening to what the world

[9:02] calls music it's easy to imagine that

[9:05] the rock culture will suffer a shock

[9:08] during this time there's no more music

[9:10] verse 22 there's no more craftsman verse

[9:13] 22

[9:14] there'll be many people without work

[9:16] there's no more milling

[9:18] food mills and factories will go out of

[9:20] existence there's no more light

[9:22] imagine the chaos of a great city

[9:24] without lights

[9:26] the streets will be turned into caverns

[9:28] of darkness and crime

[9:29] there'll be no more marriages the

[9:31] merriment of marriage and the vows will

[9:34] not be heard again in that city

[9:37] in verse 24 you have the recognition of

[9:39] the saints

[9:41] babylon will be judged because she

[9:44] worshipped wealth and luxury

[9:46] and played the harlot before the great

[9:48] merchants of the world

[9:50] she goes astray with witchcraft and

[9:52] doctrines of demons

[9:54] many were killed through the ages by her

[9:57] now she must pay for all the shocking

[9:59] murders

[10:00] murders and bloody persecutions that she

[10:02] once controlled and directed

[10:06] in verse four there was a voice that

[10:07] said come out of her my people

[10:10] and who are those people those that have

[10:12] embraced jesus christ during tribulation

[10:15] saints those tribulation saints during

[10:18] the tribulation time and

[10:19] those believing israel perhaps the pool

[10:23] was there

[10:24] think about this babylon represents the

[10:26] world system

[10:28] what is the world system it's

[10:30] materialism

[10:32] it's humanism it is everything that

[10:35] is not of god now there's a call to

[10:39] come out from among them and be separate

[10:41] saith the lord in

[10:43] corinthians 6 this doesn't mean

[10:46] isolationism which says that you don't

[10:48] talk to anybody who's not a christian

[10:51] we're actually to be in the world and

[10:53] not of the world

[10:54] but too many christians are caught up in

[10:56] the prestige

[10:58] the performance and all the other stuff

[11:01] that's wrapped up in the babylonian

[11:03] system

[11:04] what they should see is some men and

[11:06] women in christ that are filled with

[11:08] love

[11:08] and having a great time in their lives

[11:11] who can smile and laugh

[11:13] the most fun i have is at church it's

[11:15] fun to be in church with god's people to

[11:17] fellowship with god's people

[11:19] and enjoy being around god's people i

[11:21] have a wonderful life

[11:23] i'm not miserable i'm happy i enjoy

[11:26] life the bible talks about the reason

[11:29] that they had to flee from babylon was

[11:31] twofold

[11:32] they're to separate to keep from

[11:34] participating in their sins

[11:36] they're to separate so they won't

[11:38] partake of their plagues

[11:40] one of the best ways to keep from

[11:42] getting caught up in materialism

[11:44] is to see how much you can give to the

[11:46] lord's work

[11:47] it's not how much you give but how much

[11:50] you keep for yourself

[11:52] that matters in other words it's about

[11:55] having a heart for god and the things of

[11:58] god

[12:00] one day babylon will fall

[12:04] the materialism of this world is going

[12:06] to burn up

[12:07] all that money that people are after all

[12:09] the houses

[12:10] all the properties all the things that

[12:12] they say wow

[12:13] look what i've accumulated look what

[12:15] i've got and it's gonna burn up in a

[12:17] moment

[12:18] and be no more but those things that are

[12:21] done for christ those of us who know the

[12:23] lord

[12:24] have a retirement out of this world in

[12:26] heaven

[12:27] what the world craves is gold and more

[12:30] financial cain

[12:32] in heaven we walk on it as pavement it's

[12:34] the street of gold

[12:36] we get a walk on it in heaven the

[12:38] precious jewels and commodity that the

[12:40] world craves and desires to have

[12:43] is architecturally used in heaven and

[12:46] buildings

[12:47] and structures what i'm simply saying my

[12:51] friend is

[12:52] heaven is so much better than the

[12:55] world's

[12:56] luxuries that they offer and for where

[13:00] your treasure is

[13:01] there will your heart be also if your

[13:04] heart's caught up

[13:05] and living for this world in the

[13:07] babylonian humanistic system of

[13:09] materialism

[13:11] you're going to find yourself wanting

[13:14] but my friend if your mind's made up to

[13:16] live for god

[13:17] and to work for the lord and do the

[13:19] things that are for the cause of christ

[13:21] your heart's going to be for the lord

[13:23] and there's going to be treasures

[13:24] awaiting you in heaven one day this

[13:26] babylonian system will fall

[13:28] and it could be within the next seven

[13:31] years

[13:32] because the rapture is just around the

[13:33] corner after that the tribulation period

[13:37] now i'm looking forward to getting into

[13:39] chapter 19 and 20

[13:41] 21 i look forward for you being along
