[0:07] a major earthquake has struck much of
[0:09] Southern California the uh California
[0:12] Institute of Technology Caltech
[0:14] seismologists measure the Quake the
[0:16] strength at about 6.5 on the RoR scale I
[0:19] want to bring johnon into this and I
[0:21] know this is a little bit different
[0:22] we've got Bob from Lancaster waiting on
[0:23] the telephone but you just called Metro
[0:25] traffic and you have some reports of
[0:26] damage if you can tell us about that
[0:28] yeah they are reporting now that inter
[0:30] State 10 the S Montica freeway is closed
[0:32] completely at Fairfax it seems to be the
[0:34] problem there is some sort of collapse
[0:36] on the freeway itself there are some
[0:38] preliminary reports that there may be uh
[0:41] some cars trapped in that rubble a lot
[0:43] of debris on a lot of the freeway areas
[0:45] repeating that for you Interstate 10
[0:48] that's the Santa Monica Freeway East and
[0:50] Westbound is completely shut down at
[0:52] Fairfax they say that part of the
[0:53] freeway collapsed we're going to be
[0:55] checking with Metro throughout the
[0:56] morning and as soon as Trisha gets here
[0:58] she can get on give you the latest
[0:59] update
[1:00] to check with another of our producers
[1:02] Audrey Kina and Audrey's on a freeway
[1:04] and calling from a car phone she's
[1:06] driving in Audrey where are you right
[1:07] now and what can you tell us I'm right
[1:09] at the intersection of the 134 and the
[1:11] two which is near Glendale and it's
[1:12] completely dark around me there no
[1:14] lights near Eagle Rock and when I look
[1:16] towards Los Angeles I really can't see
[1:17] any lights on at all were you in your
[1:20] car already when it hit Audrey no I was
[1:22] asleep
