[0:00] Empower is a cool word but it also is
[0:02] it's a very feel-good word and I think
[0:04] people hear that and they they might
[0:06] overhear it as uh saying look I'm
[0:08] empowered I'm on this team I'm going to
[0:10] work on what I want to work on you know
[0:11] I'm going to use my best judgment I'm
[0:13] going to you try and you work this all
[0:15] forward when in fact that's really not
[0:17] what we mean by empowered what we mean
[0:20] is that you are actually allocating
[0:23] problems onto team leadership takes an
[0:25] active role in defining what those
[0:27] problems are teams may have something to
[0:29] say it but leadership really ultimately
[0:31] is the more terminable because it's how
[0:33] everything actually rolls up and stays
[0:36] coherent so if you don't have that
[0:38] that's usually a sign that leadership is
[0:41] of abdicating its responsibility not
[0:43] really helping die these teams where
[0:46] they should be going and then as a
[0:47] result you got a lot of team they might
[0:49] be shipping a lot of stuff but what
[0:50] they're shipping is not really making
[0:52] much of a difference to anything and
[0:54] it's really quite disconnected from the
[0:56] rest of the teams all right Chris
