[0:53] again today Americans became targets for
[0:56] terrorists who struck with deadly effect
[0:58] but this time the Americans they chose
[1:00] were capable of fighting back they were
[1:03] U.S Marines the attack came on an island
[1:06] in the Persian Gulf where U.S military
[1:08] forces are engaged in operation eager
[1:11] mace training exercises held in the
[1:13] region every year since the Gulf War
[1:16] cbs's David Martin pieced together the
[1:18] facts

[1:23] Warfare exercise like this involving 1
[1:26] 000 Marines on an island off the coast
[1:27] of Kuwait two men dressed in civilian
[1:30] clothes drove a pickup truck to a marine
[1:32] position got out and opened fire with
[1:35] AK-47s hitting two of The Americans both
[1:38] Marines were wounded and Medevac to the
[1:40] Armed Forces Hospital in Kuwait City
[1:43] one Marine later died of his wounds the
[1:45] other remains hospitalized the two men
[1:47] jumped back in their pickup truck and
[1:49] drove to another Marine position but
[1:51] this time the Marines no doubt alerted
[1:53] by the sound of gunfire were ready and
[1:56] opened fire first killing the two men
