[0:05] On the ground, Saudi troops and Marines
[0:07] retake Kafi. In the air, Allied bombers
[0:10] pound Iraqi positions. And the US war
[0:14] machine waits for the order to move into
[0:16] Kuwait.
[0:20] This is the CBS Evening News. Dan Rather
[0:23] reporting tonight with a special war
[0:25] update edition. Good evening. The US
[0:27] military says Allied forces have
[0:29] recaptured the Saudi town of Kafgi.
[0:32] That's after two days of fierce fighting
[0:34] against a stubborn Iraqi invading force.
[0:37] Tonight, new clashes are reported with a
[0:40] much bigger Iraqi force west along the
[0:42] Kui border. A large column of Iraqi
[0:45] armor is said to have been moving toward
[0:47] the Kuwaiti border that is being pounded
[0:49] by B-52s. Earlier, Iraq said it has

[0:57] looking for two missing soldiers, a man
[0:59] and a woman, whose military vehicle was
[1:01] found empty near the Kuwaiti border.
[1:04] Behind enemy lines, another US plane

[1:09] electronic warfare craft with about 20
[1:11] Americans aboard. In the battle for
[1:14] Kafi, the Pentagon says Allied forces
[1:16] wound up destroying 42 Iraqi tanks and
[1:19] 35 other vehicles and took 161 Iraqi
[1:23] prisoners. Scott Pelle covered that
[1:26] fight.
[1:31] >> Arab forces blasted their way back into
[1:34] Kofji today with the help of US Marine
[1:36] firepower. Iraqi casualties are reported
[1:39] to be heavy after 2 days of fighting.
[1:42] >> It's just like all hell broke loose. You
[1:43] know, there's tracers flying everywhere
[1:45] and unlike any other feeling I've ever
[1:48] felt before in my life. I've never been
[1:49] so scared in
