[0:00] Oh, slowly not
[0:01] >> from men.
[0:03] There's got to be an answer.
[0:05] >> Don't look for it, Taylor.
[0:08] >> You may not like what you find.
[0:12] [Music]
[0:37] Oh my god,
[0:40] I'm back.
[0:43] I'm home
[0:46] all the time.
[0:50] >> We finally really did it.
[0:54] You maniacs.
[0:57] You blew it up.
[0:59] A damn you.
[1:02] God damn you all the hell.
[1:17] >> All right. And we're back now with Dr.
[1:19] Richard Brown. Dr. Brown, how did the
[1:21] critics back at the time feel about
[1:22] Planet of the Apes?
[1:24] >> Well, it's it's an interesting question,
[1:25] Arthl, because the film has become a
[1:27] real classic since then. It's one of
[1:29] those films that time was very generous
[1:31] to kind. At the time, it was regarded
[1:33] really as a kind of science fiction
[1:36] promotional movie, not really looked on
[1:38] very sympathetically with one or two
[1:39] exceptions. And the film is interesting
[1:41] because you don't understand the movie
[1:43] until the last 30 seconds. That was a
[1:45] good choice of clip because in that clip
[1:47] you understand that this person who has
[1:49] landed on this distant planet on this
[1:52] horrible planet in which the apes run it
[1:54] and man is is submissive that the planet
[1:57] he's landed on is the earth. And when
[1:59] you see that terrific moment where h at
[2:01] the end where it all hits him that's the
[2:02] moment where it hits the audience also
[2:04] that this is a didactic film that has a
[2:07] message to it about where we are going.
[2:09] It it sort of masquerades as a science
[2:12] fiction film with the monkey suits and
[2:14] the kind of primitive special effects,
[2:16] but it really is a kind of uh uh tale of
[2:19] morality after all.
[2:21] >> And is going to be remade perhaps by
[2:22] James Came
