[0:00] He joins us now by phone to elaborate on
[0:01] what's happening there. Lieutenant
[0:02] Cowan, thanks for joining us.
[0:04] >> Glad to be here.
[0:05] >> So, what are what are people going to
[0:06] find when they return to New Orleans?
[0:08] >> Uh, unfortunately, looks like there's
[0:09] going to be a lot of water. Most of New
[0:12] Orleans is flooded under several feet of
[0:14] water. Uh, a lot of trees knocked down,
[0:17] a lot of power lines. Uh, it's it's
[0:19] pretty messy.
[0:20] >> So, when you say water, is this salt
[0:22] water, fresh water? What's in the water?
[0:24] >> Uh, it's a combination. There was a lot
[0:26] of heavy rains. Uh there was some
[0:28] breaching of the levy system that pushed
[0:31] the water uh into St. Bernard Parish and
[0:34] into New Orleans proper itself. Uh
[0:37] flooding neighborhoods, streets that are
[0:40] completely flooded.
[0:42] >> So I take it it's not clean. So what's
[0:44] what sort of what I mean what sort of
[0:46] medical problems might uh that kind of
[0:48] water give rise to? What what are you
[0:50] worried about?
[0:51] Well, there's there's always the
[0:53] possibility for uh any type of uh
[0:56] stagnant water to set, but but what
[0:58] we're planning is the pumps in New
[1:02] Orleans. Uh hopefully we'll be able to
[1:04] pump out the water relatively quickly.
[1:06] Uh crews are working non-stop to make
[1:09] sure that these pumps are operational
[1:10] and pumping out as much water as they
[1:12] can. Uh efforts are being made to repair
[1:15] any damages to the levy system uh so
[1:18] that more water will not be seeping back
[1:20] in. So, it's uh easier to pump the water
[1:22] out and not have to have to worry about
[1:24] the back fill.
[1:25] >> Well, I know there was ther
