[0:44] Good evening. For the second time in his
[0:46] young presidency, Bill Clinton's hopes
[0:48] of naming a female Attorney General have
[0:51] been dashed. And for the second time,
[0:53] the reason has to do with a nanny. Kimba
[0:56] Wood, a federal judge in New York who
[0:58] was the president's near-certain choice,
[1:00] withdrew her name from consideration
[1:01] late today. NBC's Andrea Mitchell is at
[1:04] the White House tonight. Andrea, this is
[1:06] déjà vu. It certainly is. The president
[1:09] has just issued a brief statement saying
[1:11] that he understands and respects Judge
[1:12] Wood's decision and wishes her well. Uh
[1:15] Judge Wood withdrew because, as she put
[1:17] it, she had uh hired an undocumented
[1:19] alien seven years ago before it was
[1:22] illegal to do so. She'd filed all
[1:24] papers. She had kept records. But it was
[1:27] perceived as a political problem. The
[1:28] White House said tonight that she was
[1:30] interviewed three times and asked if she
[1:32] had a Zoe Baird problem. A reference, of
[1:35] course, to the previous nominee for
[1:36] Attorney General
