[0:18] now
[0:20] is this the end
[0:21] [Music]
[0:24] where can one turn to find the answers
[0:28] to the questions within
[0:29] [Music]
[0:32] join us as we discover the truth
[0:37] in revelation revealed
[0:44] [Music]
[0:46] thanks for tuning in again to revelation
[0:48] reveal the ministry here at bible
[0:50] baptist church
[0:51] we're excited today to continue in our
[0:54] series and we're in
[0:55] revelation chapter 1 verse number 11 but
[0:58] before we get into that let me tell you
[1:00] what's coming we're gonna
[1:01] do our best today to finish up chapter
[1:03] number one
[1:04] and so following chapter number one
[1:06] would normally be chapter two
[1:09] but we've been praying about this and we
[1:11] feel that god wants us
[1:13] to take chapter 2 and chapter 3 and put
[1:16] it into a sermon series that we'll be
[1:18] preaching in our church starting the
[1:19] month of october
[1:20] on sunday nights so we're going to go
[1:23] from chapter one
[1:25] straight this next video to chapter four
[1:28] verse number one which is dealing with
[1:31] the rapture of the church
[1:32] the very next thing on god's prophetic
[1:34] calendar
[1:35] so i want to encourage you that we're
[1:37] going to take a leap over two chapters
[1:40] but we are still going to teach those
[1:42] chapters we'll still preach through
[1:44] those on a sunday night series
[1:46] i'll still have notes that go through
[1:48] that and we'll make that available
[1:49] through our revelation series as well
[1:52] so you can still have the notes to go
[1:54] along with your series if you're
[1:55] downloading the notes
[1:57] again in the description of this video
[1:59] is a link to our church's website
[2:01] that has downloadable notes for each and
[2:04] every session
[2:05] so revelation chapter number one verse
[2:07] number 11. let's dive in look at these
[2:09] verses with me today
[2:11] saying i am alpha and omega the first
[2:14] and the last well who's saying that
[2:15] we've got to go back to verse 10.
[2:18] verse 10 i was in the spirit on the
[2:20] lord's day
[2:21] and heard behind me a great voice as a
[2:24] trumpet
[2:25] the voices say i am alpha and omega the
[2:29] first and the last
[2:30] and what thou seest write in a book and
[2:33] send it unto
[2:34] the seven churches which are in asia
[2:37] under ephesus
[2:38] and under smyrna and under pergamus and
[2:41] under thyrotyra
[2:42] and under sardis and under philadelphia
[2:45] and unto laodicea
[2:47] and i turned to see the voice that spake
[2:50] with me
[2:51] and being turned i saw seven golden
[2:54] candlesticks
[2:55] and in the midst of the seven golden
[2:57] candlesticks one likened to the son of
[2:59] man
[3:00] clothed with a garment down to the foot
[3:03] and gird about with pabst with a golden
[3:06] girdle
[3:06] his head and his hairs were white like
[3:09] wool
[3:10] as white as snow and his eyes were as a
[3:13] flame of fire
[3:15] and his feet likened to fine brass as if
[3:18] they'd been burned in a furnace
[3:20] and his voice says the sound of many
[3:22] waters
[3:23] and he's had in his right hand seven
[3:26] stars
[3:27] and out of his mouth when a sharp
[3:28] two-edged sword
[3:30] and his countenance was as the sun
[3:32] shineth in his strength
[3:34] when i saw him i fell at his feet as
[3:37] dead
[3:38] and he laid his right hand upon me and
[3:40] saying unto me fear not
[3:42] i am the first and the last i
[3:45] am he that liveth and was dead and
[3:48] behold i am alive forevermore
[3:50] amen and have the keys of hell and death
[3:55] write the things which thou has seen and
[3:57] the things which are
[3:58] and the things which shall be hereafter
[4:01] the mystery of the seven stars which
[4:03] thou sawest in my right hand
[4:05] and the seven golden candlesticks the
[4:08] seven stars are the angels of the seven
[4:10] churches
[4:11] and the seven candlesticks which thou
[4:13] sawest
[4:14] are the seven churches
[4:18] as we look into this section of
[4:20] scripture
[4:21] one of the things that becomes difficult
[4:23] starting in chapter
[4:25] one in this section and going on into
[4:27] the book of revelation
[4:29] is when you have figurative language
[4:32] language using metaphors and similes
[4:36] things that are compared to other things
[4:39] it's not that what he
[4:41] is seeing is that thing but he uses a
[4:44] metaphor or a simile
[4:45] to describe it more clearly for you and
[4:48] i
[4:49] so back to verse 11 we find that there's
[4:52] the
[4:52] seven churches he names them by name the
[4:56] seven churches there in asia minor we
[4:58] mentioned what they are
[5:00] in a previous video in verse number 12
[5:04] he hears the voice and as he turns
[5:07] to see the voice this is what he sees
[5:11] he sees those seven golden candlesticks
[5:15] now one has thought that maybe he saw a
[5:17] menorah
[5:18] which was used in the temple worship a
[5:21] one
[5:22] golden candlestick that had seven
[5:24] branches off of it
[5:26] but here it says that there's seven
[5:28] golden candle sticks and each
[5:30] candlestick
[5:31] has a different location we know that
[5:33] because it's the seven churches
[5:35] so john here sees seven different
[5:39] candlesticks in a circle and in the
[5:41] midst of the circle he sees
[5:44] one like unto the son of man jesus
[5:46] christ
[5:47] so each candlestick is a church it's
[5:50] interesting that god looks
[5:52] at the as the churches as candlesticks
[5:55] there's two characteristics mentioned
[5:57] here one that they're golden
[5:59] evidently god thinks that the church is
[6:01] precious well it is precious
[6:03] he bought it he purchased it with his
[6:05] own blood
[6:06] and he operates his ministry to the
[6:09] world
[6:10] through the local church the second
[6:13] thing that's interesting
[6:14] is that it's compared to a candlestick
[6:16] that means it's to give light out
[6:18] to those in darkness and that is the
[6:21] church's responsibility when jesus was
[6:23] here on the earth
[6:24] he was the light but he tells us to
[6:28] ye are the light of the world a city
[6:30] that is set on a hill cannot be hid in
[6:31] matthew chapter five so it's our
[6:33] responsibility
[6:35] to be the light to the world secondly he
[6:38] continues on in the
[6:39] midst of the candlesticks the son of man
[6:42] and
[6:42] he begins to describe him now i want to
[6:46] point something out
[6:47] if you remember who was talking here
[6:50] who's the one that's writing this down
[6:52] it is the apostle john
[6:54] if anybody knew what jesus looked like
[6:57] in his
[6:57] resurrected earthly form it would be the
[7:00] apostle john
[7:02] however this is not jesus in his
[7:05] resurrected earthly form
[7:07] this is jesus christ in his glorified
[7:10] form and so let's look at the
[7:12] description here
[7:14] the son of man he's clothed with a
[7:17] garment
[7:17] down to his feet referencing daniel
[7:20] chapter 10
[7:21] verse number five you should look that
[7:22] verse up the garment down to his feet
[7:26] that is mentioned here is that garment
[7:29] of a a
[7:30] priest now when jesus came to the earth
[7:32] he was the messiah
[7:34] but he also became our high priest the
[7:37] book of hebrews talks about that
[7:39] it also mentions that he was gert about
[7:41] the paps with a golden girdle
[7:44] the golden girdle here referencing that
[7:46] priestly
[7:47] garment it's about the past about the
[7:50] chest area it's not
[7:51] down lower around the waist but higher
[7:53] up
[7:54] referencing the priestly garments also
[7:58] comparing back to the book of leviticus
[8:00] with the urum and therm
[8:02] and all of those exciting things again
[8:04] not having time this morning to dive
[8:06] into
[8:07] all of the history but wanting to point
[8:09] out to you
[8:10] the characteristics here in verse 14 his
[8:13] head and hairs were white
[8:15] like wool in daniel 7 9 and mentions the
[8:18] ancient of days
[8:20] and it describes his hair as being as
[8:22] white as snow
[8:24] white representing the purity of it
[8:27] ancient of days those that had the hory
[8:30] head the gray hair the white hair they
[8:31] were
[8:32] considered to be full of wisdom and
[8:34] honor
[8:35] this is what he's describing when he
[8:37] looks at the ancient days it says his
[8:39] eyes
[8:40] were as a flame of fire his hair
[8:43] was like those are metaphors and similes
[8:48] that are
[8:48] figurative language to help describe
[8:52] what he saw it didn't mean his hair
[8:54] looked like a sheep's wool
[8:56] but it was descriptive of that it didn't
[8:58] mean that his
[8:59] eyes were literally on fire they're not
[9:02] but the piercingness
[9:03] of his eyes were like a flame of fire
[9:07] in verse 15 it says that his feet were
[9:09] likened to fine brass
[9:11] as if they'd been burned and in a
[9:13] furnace so the
[9:14] feet are likened to that like his brass
[9:17] burning furnace the
[9:18] solidness the the strength that's there
[9:21] the voices the sound of many waters a
[9:24] loud
[9:25] voice thundering voice that was there
[9:29] it continues on and says in his right
[9:31] hand where seven stars will get to that
[9:34] in a moment
[9:35] and out of his mouth when a sharp
[9:36] two-edged sword
[9:38] and his countenance was as the sun
[9:40] shineth in his strength
[9:41] now that describing what's coming out of
[9:45] his mouth the words that he is saying
[9:48] are piercing words if you're ready
[9:50] ephesians 2
[9:51] chapter 3 and then what continues
[9:54] thereafter you'll realize
[9:56] that what's coming out of the mouth of
[9:57] god was piercing convicting words
[10:00] it didn't mean there was a literal sword
[10:02] sticking out of his mouth
[10:04] but that the words that he were saying
[10:05] were piercing hebrews 4 12
[10:07] talks about the word of god being
[10:10] likened into a two-edged sword
[10:12] it talks about his countenance was as
[10:14] the sun that shineth in his strength the
[10:17] brightness of his glory all of this
[10:20] depicts
[10:21] what john is seeing now as he sees
[10:24] this it says in verse 17 when i saw him
[10:28] i
[10:28] fell at his feet as dead and as he
[10:32] laid his right hand upon me saying to me
[10:34] fear not
[10:35] i am the first and the last after john
[10:38] sees
[10:38] jesus in his glorified
[10:42] form as the ancient of days
[10:45] as the judge as the priest as
[10:48] the shining glory that's round about him
[10:52] john falls at his feet john who
[10:56] leaned on his breast that supper is now
[10:58] falling at the feet of the
[11:00] same individual jesus comes up
[11:03] and places his hand upon him and he
[11:05] tells him to fear not
[11:08] fear not for i am with you i'm the first
[11:12] and the last the eternal one he says i
[11:15] am he that liveth
[11:17] and was dead it's interesting the
[11:20] verbiage here was dead what literally
[11:23] happens here is he's saying i was alive
[11:25] he was
[11:26] before he became dead
[11:30] and he lives again talking about his
[11:33] resurrection he says and i now liveth
[11:37] again
[11:37] forevermore who's never going to die
[11:40] again
[11:41] amen and have the keys of hell
[11:44] and death and he owns the keys he has
[11:48] the power
[11:49] over death and hell and the permission
[11:52] you know it's an interesting thought
[11:54] that jesus has the keys to unlock the
[11:57] door of death
[11:58] you ever considered that so we could say
[12:01] this way no one can die
[12:03] without permission from god it's an
[12:06] interesting thought
[12:07] no one can die without permission from
[12:09] god
[12:11] he continues on about his right hand
[12:14] holding the seven stars
[12:15] his description here he tells him he has
[12:19] the keys of hell and death
[12:20] verse 19 is the transition he tells him
[12:24] to write
[12:24] now in verse 11 and verse 10
[12:28] he sees in verse
[12:31] 19 excuse me verse 12
[12:34] he sees i turn to c and then in verse 19
[12:38] he's told to write and you discover in
[12:40] verse 19 of revelation chapter one
[12:43] the whole outline for the book of
[12:45] revelation here it is
[12:47] he's told to write the things which thou
[12:50] has seen what he just saw
[12:52] right then in the moment he's to write
[12:55] those things which are dealing with
[12:58] chapter 2 and chapter 3
[13:00] the seven churches those literal
[13:02] churches
[13:03] that existed at that time of john's
[13:06] writing
[13:06] and deliver those messages to those
[13:08] seven churches
[13:10] and the things which shall be hereafter
[13:13] starting in chapter four verse one the
[13:15] rapture
[13:16] of the church the catching away all the
[13:19] way through
[13:20] the rest of the book of revelation so i
[13:23] could tell you this this morning
[13:25] chapter one detail some things that
[13:27] happened that day to john
[13:30] chapter two and three are detailing
[13:33] things that are happening right at that
[13:35] time during the time period of john
[13:38] those two chapters lead us to chapter
[13:41] four
[13:42] that's what could happen at any moment
[13:46] the catching away the trump shall sound
[13:49] that chapter 4 verse 1 could happen
[13:53] at any moment and when that happens
[13:55] everything else
[13:57] will be hereafter now he reveals the
[14:00] mystery in verse 20.
[14:02] the mystery of the seven stars which
[14:04] thou sawest in my right hand
[14:06] and the seven golden candlesticks he
[14:09] tells us what they are
[14:11] the seven golden candlesticks he says
[14:13] clearly
[14:14] they are the seven churches the seven
[14:18] angels the seven stars are seven angels
[14:21] the word angel here meaning messenger
[14:24] now i want to point something out to you
[14:25] there are two differing views
[14:28] that are primarily concerned in verse
[14:30] number 20. one says
[14:32] seven angels saying that each
[14:35] church has a special angel
[14:38] and that's who he's giving the message
[14:41] to
[14:43] but if you remember the chain has come
[14:46] from god the father to the son
[14:48] given to an angel to give to john why
[14:50] would it now
[14:51] go from john to go back to an angel why
[14:54] would he go back up the ladder
[14:56] why wouldn't god do that i believe it's
[14:59] clearly
[14:59] taught here that the messengers are the
[15:02] seven
[15:03] pastors of the seven churches of ephesus
[15:07] or of the seven churches i should say
[15:09] starting with ephesus
[15:11] but as you go through chapter 2 and
[15:13] chapter 3
[15:14] there are some truths that are
[15:16] discovered there that
[15:17] clearly identify that it is the pastors
[15:22] not a angel in heaven that
[15:26] john is giving the message to so
[15:29] we're going to look at that in the
[15:31] upcoming month of october
[15:33] on our sunday nights here at bible
[15:35] baptist church
[15:36] we'll have those services recorded we'll
[15:39] live stream them
[15:40] as well we'll have notes available that
[15:42] you can download or you can have in the
[15:44] services
[15:45] which would even be better so i
[15:47] encourage you come join us in the month
[15:48] of october on sunday nights
[15:50] as we look at letters to the seven
[15:52] churches but i want to
[15:55] conclude with this thought chapter 4 is
[15:58] coming soon
[16:00] verse 1 could happen at any moment and
[16:03] then the tribulation period
[16:05] will begin right now there are a lot of
[16:08] questions and concerns that people have
[16:11] they're concerned about a peace treaty
[16:13] that's happening
[16:15] between israel the united arab emirates
[16:18] they're concerned about a cashless
[16:19] society they're concerned about
[16:22] a microchip being implanted into them
[16:25] they're concerned
[16:26] about all of these things but one truth
[16:30] must be
[16:31] reminded of this is that
[16:34] if you do not know the lord your time is
[16:37] running out
[16:38] but if you know jesus christ as your
[16:40] personal savior
[16:42] he is coming very very
[16:45] soon and it could be at any moment
[16:49] lord willing we'll be in chapter 4
[16:52] the next time we join together but if
[16:55] not
[16:56] it's because of one reason the rapture
[16:58] of the church has happened
[17:00] so join us next time as we look at
[17:03] revelation
[17:04] revealed and i hope to see you here at
[17:07] bible baptist church
[17:08] for one of our services have a great day
[17:11] and may the lord
[17:21] you
