[0:15] Wednesday, February 13th. Good morning.
[0:17] I'm Jacqueline Adams
[0:18] >> and I'm Charles Osgood. And here are the
[0:20] headlines. CBS News has learned that the
[0:22] United States will give Israel the
[0:24] secret identification codes that Israeli
[0:26] jets would need to join the war against
[0:28] Iraq. In Baghdad, the first indication
[0:31] that Saddam Hussein may be softening his
[0:33] stand. And reports from the Iraqi
[0:35] capital say 400 people may have died
[0:37] when Allied missiles hit an underground
[0:39] air raid shelter.
[0:41] >> When and if the ground war finally
[0:43] begins in Kuwait, it may also introduce
[0:45] a significant new element in the air
[0:48] campaign. war plananes bearing the blue

[0:57] government has agreed to give Israel the
[0:59] electronic identification codes its air
[1:01] force will need to safely attack Scud
[1:04] missile sites in western Iraq with the
[1:06] understanding that there won't be any
[1:08] Israeli attacks until the US and its
[1:10] coalition allies begin the ground war.
[1:13] When Israeli Defense Minister Erands saw
[1:15] US officials on Monday, he argued
[1:17] vehemently that his government couldn't
[1:18] hold out much longer against domestic
[1:20] political pressure to retaliate. But he
[1:23] told reporters he needed US help to do
[1:25] it.
