[0:00] Political correctness gone to extremes
[0:02] tonight at 6
[0:06] from ABC News.
[0:11] This week with David Brinkley. Now from
[0:15] Washington, David Brinkley.
[0:17] The leaders of government still hang
[0:19] back stubbornly, giving an inch or two
[0:22] here and there, but no more. Many words,
[0:25] little action, looking at each other
[0:27] across a wide political divide.
[0:30] While this continues across the country,
[0:32] there is rising public anger and even
[0:34] disgust. The latest, a Republican offer
[0:38] to end the government shutdown if
[0:40] President Clinton will commit to a

[1:04] discussion here, Sam Donaldson on
[1:06] vacation with George Will, Ki Roberts,
[1:10] and Bill Crystal. All here on our This
[1:13] Week program.
[1:16] The other news today in the Florida
[1:18] Straw Poll, Senator Bob Dole won it, but
[1:21] it was close. He got 33% of the vote.
[1:24] Senator Phil Graham 26%. Lamar
[1:27] Alexander, 23. We'll have more on that a
[1:30] little later from ABC's Jim Wooten in
[1:32] Florida. An Israeli State Commission has
[1:36] begun closed door hearings about the
[1:38] murder of Prime Minister Rabin.
[1:40] With most of the government shut down,
[1:42] you can't even go up in the Washington
[1:44] Monument and nobody can say for sure how
[1:46] long this will last. But in the
[1:48] meantime, her
