[0:00] form

[0:00] >> to take a look at his strategy to find

[0:02] out whether or not he can truly be

[0:03] competitive in Iowa now with Vilsac

[0:06] potentially considered a frontr runner

[0:08] there. Mr. Edwards has not yet himself

[0:10] formed his exploratory and made

[0:12] announcements to run, but by all

[0:14] accounts he's expected to. Iowa becomes

[0:16] an interesting situation for Republicans

[0:19] as well. And to give you an idea of how

[0:21] accelerated this campaign is, George

[0:24] Pataki, the outgoing Republican governor

[0:26] of New York, has had an office for his

[0:29] political action campaign in Urbandale,

[0:32] Iowa for the better part of the last 5

[0:34] months.

[0:35] >> His campaign is already underway. He's

[0:36] expected to announce it in January as

[0:38] well. But Mr. Pitakei has suffered a

[0:39] blow in the Iowa caucus state where two

[0:42] key staffers have essentially quit and

[0:45] withdrawn their support for him, arguing

[0:47] that Mr. Pitake's support for abortion

[0:49] rights is out of line with Republicans

[0:52] in Iowa, the first caucus state. So

[0:54] while you see there the Democratic race

[0:56] in fullblown capacity with Vilsac

[0:58] heading out on the campaign trail this

[1:00] week, George Pitaki's already got an

[1:02] office going in Iowa and people are

[1:04] leaving him because they disagree with

[1:05] his values on abortion rights. Lots of

[1:08] material taking place in this campaign

[1:10] and in January we can expect as many as

[1:11] 10 candidates to formally announce and

[1:13] begin their campaigning. We'll send it

[1:14] back to you. I mean, if that's how they

[1:15] feel about Pitakei, they may have

[1:17] trouble with some other moderate GOP uh

[1:19] potential candidates as well. You know

[1:20] who we're talking about.

[1:21] >> One of one of them happens to be from

[1:22] New York as well, Rudy Giuliani. Uh his

[1:24] abortion rights position could run a

[1:26] foul of conservatives in Iowa and indeed

[1:27] in the Republican party across the

[1:29] country. And John McCain, who's

[1:30] considered sort of the other top tier

[1:32] candidate along with Mitt Romney,

[1:33] everybody questioning their abortion

[1:35] positions. Mr. Romney was considered

[1:37] pro-choice in the '90s. He now calls

[1:39] himself pro-life as well.

[1:40] >> I hope you've taken your vacation.

[1:41] You're going to be real busy over the

[1:42] next 102 weeks, Carl Cameron. Never

[1:45] stops.

[1:46] >> Campaign Carl, thanks so much, campaign

[1:48] Carl Cameron. The countdown to Christmas

[1:50] is on right now. According to the

[1:52] National Retail Federation website,

[1:53] giftgivers are turning less and to lists

[1:57] and more to those gift cards, spending

[1:59] an estimated, this is really

[2:00] astonishing, $25 billion on gift cards.

[2:04] William Lines with more now from the

[2:06] Grove Shopping Complex in Los Angeles.

[2:09] LA is a big place. William, where

[2:11] where's the Grove? I don't remember it.

[2:13] >> Uh we're basically about third in

[2:16] Fairfax in Los Angeles. Pretty much

[2:18] right in the middle um near Labraa,

[2:20] Wilshire, that kind of area. Anyways,

[2:22] Greg, uh I was going to tell you, you

[2:24] know, uh this is a very exuberant time,

[2:26] but a lot of people get into financial

[2:28] trouble at this time of year. And if you

[2:30] use uh credit cards solely, you're

[2:32] spending about 36% more than if you just
