[0:01] A landmark jury [music] decision. The
[0:03] seller of a gun held liable for a
[0:05] shooting.
[0:06] Confiscated cocaine piles up in Florida,
[0:09] but are we winning or losing the war on
[0:12] drugs? And it could be coming to a store
[0:15] near you, the first ever female condom.
[0:19] This is the CBS Evening News.
[0:22] >> [music]
[0:27] >> Good evening. Dan Rather reporting. The
[0:29] gun lobby has lost a big one in court.
[0:31] For the first time ever, a gun dealer is
[0:34] being held legally responsible and
[0:36] ordered to pay damages for selling the
[0:39] gun used to commit a murder. CBS News
[0:42] law correspondent Rita Braver has more

[1:07] >> Well, I think the first thing that needs
[1:08] to be addressed is that we have no
[1:09] guilt.
[1:10] >> In 1988, Nicholas Elliott, then a
[1:13] 16-year-old student, rampaged through
[1:15] his high school, killing Farley and
[1:17] wounding another person. According to
[1:19] court testimony, Elliott went to the gun
[1:22] store with an adult cousin. Elliott
[1:24] allegedly chose the gun, provided the
[1:26] money for it, but the store negligently
[1:28] allowed the adult to falsely register as
[1:31] the true owner of the gun. The store
[1:33] owners denied the charge, but Farley's
[1:35] husband said the jury reached the
[1:37] correct conclusion.
[1:38] >> Uh you know,
