[0:02] Good evening. I'm John Hart with the NBC
[0:05] Nightly News. Lev Venza is home,
[0:08] arriving in Gadanks this evening in a
[0:10] fourc caravan escorted to his apartment
[0:13] by several bodyguards. For the last day
[0:15] and a half since the Polish government
[0:17] announced it had released him from his
[0:19] confinement, Venza has been nowhere to
[0:20] be seen. Once told the crowd of several
[0:23] thousand people waiting for him outside
[0:25] his apartment house, "We have to reach
[0:27] an agreement, but not on our knees."
[0:30] John Cochran reports, "The Polish
[0:32] government is still worried about
[0:33] Venza's influence." Tonight, for the
[0:36] second night in a row, Polish
[0:37] authorities decided not to broadcast a
[0:39] television interview with Le Venza. An
[0:42] interview recorded yesterday morning as
[0:44] Vinca was being released from
[0:45] internment. The authorities apparently
[0:47] once again had second thoughts about
[0:49] allowing polls to see the leader of
[0:51] their outlawed union solidarity. But
[0:54] excerpts of that interview have already
[0:55] leaked out to Western reporters. And in
[0:57] that interview, Vinsa said he wanted to
[1:00] negotiate an agreement with the
[1:01] authorities, but he said he would not
[1:02] negotiate on his knees and that any
[1:05] agreement must be a just and fair one.
[1:08] The authorities apparently do not want
[1:10] polls to get the impression that Vinsa
[1:12] has the authority to negotiate for
[1:14] anyone except himself. Privately, Polish
[1:16] officials have told NBC News they prefer
[1:19] to negotiate with the primate of the
[1:21] Polish church, Archbishop Glenn. The
[1:24] Winser's future role, according to
[1:25] Polish officials, will be decided
