[0:00] the finish line in one piece. The race
[0:02] is part of the town's annual Halloween
[0:04] celebration. Now, apparently, it sounds
[0:06] pretty ghoulish, but apparently
[0:08] someone's coffin accidentally [music]
[0:10] slid
[0:11] and that's how it started. We'll see you
[0:13] at 11:00. Good night. [laughter]
[0:15] >> That's the rest.
[0:24] On the eve of the vote that could tear
[0:26] Canada apart, the final rallies to
[0:29] convince [music] the people of Quebec do
[0:31] not leave. The Japanese cult with the
[0:34] poison gas. [music]
[0:35] It was building a bigger arsenal with
[0:37] bigger plans. And the newest discoveries
[0:40] on how your brain works.
[0:44] >> From ABC, this is World News Sunday.
[0:48] Here's Carol Simpson.
[0:50] >> Good evening. [music] Canada's future is
[0:52] on the line. Tomorrow, the people of
[0:55] French-speaking Quebec, Canada's largest
[0:57] province, one that accounts for nearly a
[0:59] quarter of that nation's economy, will
[1:02] vote on whether they want to remain a
[1:03] part of Canada or become a separate
[1:06] nation. Peter Jennings is covering the
[1:08] story from the financial capital of
[1:10] Quebec, Montreal. Peter
[1:13] >> Carol, there is the smell of fear in
[1:15] Canada tonight. Fear that by late
[1:17] tomorrow, Canada may be on the verge of
[1:19] breaking up. And this province of
[1:21] Quebec, where Montreal is the largest
[1:22] city, will be on its way to becoming an
[1:24] independent French nation. Now, it may
[1:27] not turn out to be that way, but here in
[1:29] this province, where 85% of the people
[1:31] are French-speaking, those French
[1:34] Quebecers who want to give up on Canada
[1:36] and form their own nation clearly have
[1:39] momentum on their side.
