[0:00] Tonight,

[0:02] Air12 is providing a rare look at

[0:04] emergency crews in action. Rescuers

[0:06] rushed out to Corvette today to try to

[0:08] save a man who was trapped under a

[0:10] riding lawnmower. Air12 was flying over

[0:12] the scene just minutes after people

[0:13] started calling 911. Firefighters say a

[0:16] man was riding that lawnmower when a

[0:18] wheel caused it to tip over, trapping

[0:20] him and also setting a bush nearby on

[0:23] fire. Paramedics rushed to his aid. Then

[0:25] within minutes, Fox 12 cameras were

[0:27] rolling as the Lifellight chopper landed

[0:29] at Emanuel Hospital in North Portland

[0:31] where that man is now being treated for

[0:33] serious injuries. So far, deputies have

[0:35] not released the name of that man

[0:36] involved in today's accident.

[0:38] >> A little boy is recovering from broken

[0:40] bones tonight after he fell nearly 35 ft

[0:42] from a train trussle. Investigators are

[0:45] still trying to figure out exactly what

[0:46] happened when four-year-old Austin Van

[0:48] Warmer fell near Battleground Lake. It

[0:51] happened yesterday as the child was

[0:52] camping with his mother and stepfather.

[0:54] People in the area say the bridge is

[0:56] dangerous for anyone, especially kids.

[0:59] >> There's no handrails, no nothing on, you

[1:01] know, and uh Yeah, it's not a safe

[1:04] bridge at all. Period. Yeah, that's for

[1:06] sure.

[1:07] >> Authorities say the boy's stepfather

[1:09] also has injuries consistent with a

[1:11] fall. Samuel Bourne told investigators

[1:13] he doesn't know how the boy fell, but he

[1:15] was arrested on outstanding warrants

[1:16] that were not related to this case.

[1:19] >> Now, Portland's first weather at 10.

[1:22] Well, it seems like we had mainly dry

[1:24] conditions today. A little drier than we

[1:25] expected. And here's the latest view

[1:27] downtown. Pioneer Courthouse Square

[1:28] shows dry conditions here. But boy, I

[1:30] think it's about to get wet downtown

[1:31] because look at the live radar. One

[1:32] shower right across the middle of town.

[1:34] You can see the radar sweep going around

[1:36] there. And that's an indication of

[1:38] things that are about to change. In

[1:39] fact, there are showers on both sides.

[1:41] Let's say the the metro area is

[1:43] straddled by showers there east and to

[1:44] the west. And we're going to see those

[1:45] showers pick up overnight tonight. Now,

[1:47] this afternoon, like I said, just some

[1:49] wind out there, comfortable temperatures

[1:51] in the mid60s, mixture of clouds and

[1:53] also sunshine. But as we go into the

[1:54] overnight hours, and I think especially

[1:57] after midnight, things going to turn a

[1:58] bit wet here across the metro area,

[2:00] northwest Oregon, and southwest

[2:01] Washington. We'll have some rain in the

[2:03] 7-day forecast, but also our warmest

[2:05] weather of the season so far coming up.

[2:07] So, stick around for that.

[2:09] >> The 10:00 news is just getting started.

[2:11] >> Was a burglary at a local restaurant, an

[2:14] inside job? cut a hole in the sheetrock,

[2:16] went through the closet into the office,

[2:18] and it was just all tore up.

[2:20] >> Only on 12, how a crook knew just what

[2:22] to do and left owners without any clues.

[2:25] Hundreds of thousands of dollars spent

[2:27] on free soda for Oregon prisoners. See

[2:30] how the state is spending your money in

[2:31] this economic crisis. You go in for

[2:34] surgery and find that your surgeon

[2:36] practices on robots. What local doctors

[2:39] are saying about this new high-tech

[2:40] tool. A high school student is busted

[2:44] just like something out of Foot Loose.

[2:46] >> I made the right decision after all.

[2:47] >> What a teenager is saying about the why

[2:49] he got suspended from school.

[2:51] >> And right now, the Cascade Pass is

[2:53] looking just fine. But by tomorrow

[2:54] morning, I think there's going to be

[2:56] snow on the roadways. We'll let you know

[2:57] how low and how much of the day it'll be

[2:59] snowy. That's coming up later.

[3:01] >> You're watching the 10:00 news first

[3:04] live local.

[3:11] Down to the final three. Who will face

[3:13] off in the Idol finale. Every vote is

[3:16] vital. American Idol. Tuesday at 8 on

[3:19] Fox 12 Oregon.

[3:22] >> This is not a bubble.

[3:24] It's Wi-Fi. The little signal you find

[3:26] in a coffee shop or a bookstore.

[3:29] These are the laptop cards the phone

[3:31] companies offer. They let you get online

[3:34] more places, but they're not that fast.

[3:38] This is Clear. Clear covers entire

[3:41] cities with a super fast mobile internet

[3:43] called YAX.

[3:45] Welcome to the future.

[3:51] >> Are you feeling alone?

[3:53] >> I'm feeling something and it ain't no

[3:55] car loan.

[3:56] >> Feel like you can't get alone? Dick says

[3:59] yes. Home of the original Yes.

[4:01] introduces the auto loan guarantee

[4:03] program. At Dick says yes. We will get

[4:05] you approved guaranteed or we will give

[4:10] week and I got approved.

[4:11] >> I'm self-employed and we got a great van

[4:14] from Dick Says Yes.

[4:15] >> Let Dick Says Yes get you approved for a

[4:17] Dick Hannah used car today.

[4:21] >> A local plan would save some school

[4:23] sports, but there is a trade-off. That's

[4:25] coming up on the 10:00 news first live

[4:27] local.

[4:31] >> For some, it's hands in the earth. the

[4:35] joy of bringing beauty to life.

[4:39] For others, it's a moment of instant

[4:42] color.

[5:01] You may already be a fan of the Honda

[5:03] Civic, the bestselling small car in

[5:05] America. Considering its remarkably high

[5:07] MPG, surprisingly low cost to maintain,

[5:11] and the fact that it's the longest

[5:12] lasting car in its class, you'll find it

[5:15] actually has a low cost of ownership.

[5:17] So, wake up and join the club. Go to

[5:21] edmonds.com for an independent report on

[5:24] the true cost to own a Civic. And then

[5:26] see your Honda dealer for great leases

[5:28] and low financing.

[5:31] Coming up tonight on the 11:00 news, the

[5:33] man who gets police to chase him on

[5:35] purpose. Why he says he's helping you.

[5:37] The three saltiest restaurant items,

[5:39] including a favorite at the Olive

[5:40] Garden. And American Idol's final three

[5:42] get ready to go back to their hometowns.

[5:44] I'm Kevin Kawari. Join us tonight for

[5:46] the 11:00 news.

[5:54] Only on 12 tonight, a thief broke into a

[5:56] popular Long View Diner to steal cash

[5:58] and in the process did more than $1,000

[6:00] in damage to the restaurant. The

[6:02] break-in happened early Friday morning

[6:04] Friday morning at Stuffy's 2 on Ocean

[6:06] Beach Highway in Long View. Detectives

[6:08] and the owners of the 50s themed

[6:10] restaurant say the crime could be an

[6:11] inside job. KPTV Stephanie Carlo is live

[6:14] in Long View tonight with a story you'll

[6:15] see only on 12.

[6:17] The owner of Stuffy's restaurant says

[6:19] the suspect used this brick to break in

[6:21] one of the windows of the restaurant.

[6:23] But she says that is not how she

[6:25] believes the suspect got in. She

[6:27] believes the suspect used this brick in

[6:29] an attempt to make the crime look like

[6:31] it was not an inside job.

[6:34] >> It's a shame that this has to happen.

[6:37] >> Glenda Dueling has owned stuffies since

[6:39] it opened 21 years ago. The Long View

[6:42] Landmark is known for its oversted

[6:44] portions and the world's largest

[6:47] cinnamon rolls made from scratch. The

[6:49] 50s themed diner is decorated with

[6:52] dozens of pieces of James Dean, Elvis

[6:54] Presley, and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia.

[6:57] The thief, who set off the alarm here

[6:59] early Friday morning, did not steal a

[7:01] single collector's item from Stuffies.

[7:04] >> Relieved

[7:06] because they could have taken so much

[7:07] more. You know, we have thousands of

[7:09] dollars worth of meat in the freezer.

[7:11] All they have to do is pop the lock and

[7:14] and take tons of that or or any of this

[7:16] stuff that we've got around.

[7:17] >> Glenda says the suspect busted into the

[7:19] back office. She says the person must

[7:22] have known that breaking in the door

[7:23] would set off the alarm, so they broke

[7:26] through the wall instead.

[7:27] >> I'm thinking it could be it has to be

[7:30] someone that knows our layout because

[7:31] they know exactly where to poke in the

[7:33] wall. Detectives with the Long View

[7:35] Police Department say they believe the

[7:37] burglar was somehow inside Stuffies

[7:39] before it was locked up for the night on

[7:41] Thursday. They say the suspect likely

[7:44] threw bricks through two of the windows

[7:46] to make it look like they had broken in.

[7:49] Glenda says the person also knew how to

[7:52] tamper with the video surveillance

[7:53] system, so the crime was not caught on

[7:56] camera.

[7:57] >> I really don't have a clue who it could

[7:58] be. There's there's not really anybody

[8:01] here that I don't trust, you know, that

[8:03] I I would suspect even.

[8:04] >> Glenda says she hates to think that this

[8:06] could be the work of a former Stuffy's

[8:08] employee or an employees acquaintance,

[8:11] but she suspects it most likely is.

[8:14] >> And I think that's what's happening.

[8:15] Desperate times, you know, and uh it's a

[8:19] shame.

[8:20] The thief ended up getting away with a

[8:23] tip container that had about $50 in it

[8:26] as well as a change jar and a $300

[8:29] digital camera. If you have any

[8:30] information on this case, you're asked

[8:32] to call Long View Police. Reporting live

[8:34] from the Fox 12 mobile newsroom tonight,

[8:35] Stephanie Krellovich, the 10:00 news.

[8:39] In tonight's classrooms in crisis, the

[8:41] Woodland School District is making cuts

[8:43] to staff and various departments. The

[8:45] school board met tonight and made

[8:47] hundreds of thousands of dollars in

[8:48] budget cuts. High school C sports teams

[8:51] are getting eliminated and so are all

[8:53] district field trips. Students will also

[8:55] have to pay a fee to participate in

[8:57] athletics and band now. Staff reductions

[8:59] will also be made, including nearly five

[9:02] full-time positions through attrition.

[9:04] High school athletes in Long View will

[9:06] now have to pay to play their favorite

[9:07] sports. The school board there voted

[9:09] tonight to charge a $50 fee per student

[9:12] per sport starting next school year.

[9:14] Long View school leaders say the change

[9:16] has to be made to balance the budget.

[9:18] The move is disappointing though for

[9:19] some at Mark Morris High School.

[9:22] >> I don't think it's fair to everybody

[9:24] because a lot of people don't have

[9:26] enough money to pay for it and it takes

[9:27] away the opportunity to enjoy an

[9:29] extracurricular activity

[9:31] >> and lots of kids will miss out.

[9:34] >> Considering the the budgetary

[9:35] constraints right now, it's probably the

[9:37] most reasonable way to go. We hate to

[9:39] see it happen, but uh you know, we got

[9:42] to keep the programs going. And the

[9:44] school board also voted to add a $20 fee

[9:47] to play middle school sports.

[9:49] >> During these tough economic times, you

[9:51] might be wondering more than ever how

[9:53] state leaders are really spending your

[9:54] tax dollars. Well, a local watchdog

[9:57] group is hoping to give you some answers

[9:58] with a new radio campaign highlighting

[10:00] what they say is excessive government

[10:02] spending. KPTV's Jamie Wilson explains.

[10:06] >> If you had to guess, what do you think

[10:08] the state spends on soda for prisoners

[10:10] every two years?

[10:12] probably about oh I don't know about

[10:14] every two probably 10,000 a year I would

[10:16] think.

[10:17] >> If you think she's right then you're

[10:19] dead wrong. And the people from Common

[10:21] Sense for Oregon have the real answer in

[10:23] a new radio campaign

[10:24] >> during this budget cycle. The Department

[10:27] of Corrections will spend $773,000

[10:31] for free soda pop for prisoners.

[10:33] >> The voice behind the ad and the group's

[10:35] executive director is Ross Day. He calls

[10:38] Common Sense for Oregon an issue

[10:40] advocacy group since our general fund is

[10:42] up by 37% over the last three budget

[10:45] cycles, but the average income in Oregon

[10:47] is only up by 18% and state leaders are

[10:50] still asking for more money. Day says

[10:53] that's a big issue, especially when

[10:55] $773,000

[10:58] could pay for three full-time state

[11:00] troopers over two years.

[11:02] >> What's what's more important to the

[11:03] citizens of Oregon? uh making sure that

[11:06] a prisoner, a rapist or a murderer has a

[11:08] uh has a coke and a smile or

[11:12] another trooper out patrolling our

[11:14] roads.

[11:14] >> A spokeswoman with the Department of

[11:16] Corrections says the soda budget is

[11:18] correct. But she also says they serve 30

[11:21] million meals to prisoners over 2 years,

[11:24] which breaks down to less than 3 cents

[11:26] per soda. So some people think the radio

[11:28] ads are pulling figures out of context

[11:31] for shock value. This is not a stone

[11:34] that's not been unturned. Every stone's

[11:36] been overturned.

[11:37] >> Rosste says the soda ad is just one of

[11:40] many to come and he hopes they get

[11:42] people talking.

[11:43] >> It took us two days to find this

[11:45] particular uh uh instance of excessive

[11:48] government spending. Uh we're suggesting

[11:50] well if we could find it in two days uh

[11:53] what else is out there?

[11:54] >> Jamie Wilson, the 10:00 news.

[11:57] >> And that brings us to tonight's web

[11:58] poll. Well, we want to know, should

[11:59] Oregon taxpayers pay to provide soda to

[12:02] prisoners? Let us know what you think

[12:04] online at kptv.com.

[12:06] >> Straight ahead on the 10:00 news,

[12:08] switched at birth and united after

[12:09] decades.

[12:10] >> See what's next for two Northwest women

[12:12] who just learned about the mistake made

[12:14] so many years ago.

[12:15] >> Also ahead, they're accused of plotting

[12:16] a Coline style attack on their own

[12:18] school right here in Oregon. See who's

[12:20] fighting so hard though to get them out

[12:22] of custody. Try takes a big step in

[12:25] finishing up a mass transit project when

[12:27] you'll have a chance to ride the new Max

[12:29] Green Line.

[12:30] >> And outside right now, it's beginning to

[12:32] cool off. Now, here in the city, it's

[12:33] still 54, but I checked every other

[12:34] observing site in western Oregon and

[12:36] Washington, and it's in the 40s. So, the

[12:38] city a bit warmer. Uh we'll talk about

[12:40] the chilly Tuesday forecast and how much

[12:41] rain that includes coming up.

[12:47] You're watching the 10:00 news. First,

[12:50] live local.

[13:20] Because we had children, too. We ask

[13:23] that you please drink responsibly.

[13:32] you'll love Arby's new bacon cheddar

[13:34] roast burger. Made with oven roasted

[13:36] freshly sliced roast beef and topped

[13:38] with cheddar cheese and thick cut pepper

[13:39] bacon on a toasted roll. Arby's new

[13:42] bacon cheddar roast burger. It's the

[13:43] burger done better. Big on taste, not on

[13:46] grease. Try one today with any one of

[13:51] Arby's new bacon cheddar roast burger.

[13:53] One bite will have you saying, "I'm

[13:55] thinking Arby's."

[13:57] >> The theme of tonight's Fox 12 Final Cut

[13:58] is technology like the new tool that a

[14:00] local hospital is using to save lives.

[14:03] Could a robot teach tomorrow's kids what

[14:05] it specializes in? And the orangutang

[14:08] that used a low tech tool as part of an

[14:09] escape from an electric fence? These

[14:11] stories and much more tonight in the Fox

[14:13] 12 Final Cut.

[14:18] It all started with our father, Dick and

[14:20] Yukai.

[14:36] questions asked.

[14:38] This is a complete refund.

[14:40] >> We're easy to find in Hillsboro or

[14:42] online at dixautogroup.com.

[14:44] >> You just got to know where to go.

[14:48] >> You know, my local oil can Henry's is

[14:50] doing a lot more than changing oil.

[14:52] Their trained technicians are making it

[14:54] easy to maintain my new car warranty.

[14:56] All the services at your local oil can

[14:58] Henry's meet or exceed warranty

[15:10] dealership, you've got Oil Can Henry's,

[15:12] the one you can trust.

[15:13] >> Coupons available at oilanhenry's.com.

[15:17] >> Closed captioning for the 10:00 news is

[15:19] brought to you by Comcast.

[15:22] I know about being smart with my money

[15:24] >> and I know about being the best.

[15:26] >> And we're being handcuffed together to

[15:28] show the two sides of Comcast offer on

[15:30] digital cable at HBO.

[15:31] >> The best entertainment on demand

[15:33] whenever you want

[15:37] you can lock in for 12 months.

[15:40] >> It's our best offer of the year. Comcast

[15:42] digital cable with on demand and HBO for

[15:44] just $29.99 a month for 12 months. Call

[15:47] 1800 Comcast today.

[15:48] >> We should do a movie Shackenstein. I

[15:51] like it.

[15:56] >> Well, tonight the economic crisis has

[15:58] struck hard in an Oregon city once

[16:00] hailed as Boomtown, USA.

[16:02] >> Experts say the recession is to blame

[16:03] for flattening Ben's once growing

[16:05] housing market and doubling the city's

[16:07] unemployment. The city's jobless rate is

[16:10] now at 17%. In May of 2007, the average

[16:14] price for a home in Bend was $396,000.

[16:17] By February of this year, that number

[16:19] had plummeted to 215,000.

[16:25] In consumer news tonight, it looks like

[16:27] short flights between PDX and the Oregon

[16:28] coast still haven't quite taken off with

[16:30] the public.

[16:31] >> Yeah, Seapport Airlines small 9 seat

[16:34] planes are only carrying an average of

[16:35] two passengers between Portland and the

[16:38] coastal cities as story and Newport. The

[16:40] airlines small number of passengers may

[16:42] soon have to pay more than the regular

[16:44] fair, which is now between $50 and $150.

[16:47] Seapport Airlines is a startup. It has a

[16:49] $3.5 million grant from the state and

[16:52] federal governments.

[16:56] Now to your health watch tonight. And

[16:57] smoking in Oregon appears is far below

[16:59] what it once was.

[17:00] >> State health leaders say Oregonians are

[17:02] smoking fewer cigarettes now, about 50

[17:04] packs per person annually. That's down

[17:07] from 96 packs back in 1996. However, the

[17:10] study still says about 17% of

[17:13] Oregonians, that's one in five, still

[17:15] use tobacco.

[17:19] Boy, today was as typical as you could

[17:21] get out in the Columbia River Gorge in

[17:22] the month of May. You see the green

[17:23] colors here from Air 12. You also see

[17:26] the uh the barge down there on the river

[17:28] and no rain. Well, we'll let you know

[17:29] when the rain is coming back and when we

[17:31] have that big warm spell coming up in my

[17:33] first live local forecast.

[17:34] >> Gorgeous shot, Mark. Also, we know we

[17:36] all know apes and monkeys are pretty

[17:37] smart, but this one just might take the

[17:39] cake. What she did at a zoo today that

[17:41] has zookeepers scratching their heads.

[17:43] >> Also, this isn't your mom and dad's

[17:46] operation game. How local doctors are

[17:48] using test dummies to practice

[17:49] surgeries. And you might even think it's

[17:51] a real person that they're operating on.

[17:53] >> He's walking to the White House from a

[17:55] thousand miles away. How this

[17:56] 11-year-old boy got his parents to let

[21:32] Custody hearings will happen this week

[21:33] for four students accused of plotting a

[21:35] Coline style attack on their school. The

[21:38] teens are accused of making threats

[21:39] against students and teachers at Cascade

[21:41] Middle School and High School in Marian

[21:43] County. and they've been locked up since

[21:45] April 2nd at the Marian County Juvenile

[21:47] Detention Center. And tonight, their

[21:49] parents are angry. One father talked to

[21:50] Fox 12 by phone about the latest in a

[21:52] series of custody review hearings for

[21:54] his son. He did not want his name made

[21:56] public.

[21:58] >> You are holding our children on charges

[22:00] not evidence is wrong. So, please either

[22:04] let them go or show us the evidence as

[22:11] and want him home so we can try to fix

[22:13] what the system has done to him

[22:15] emotionally.

[22:17] >> The Marian County Sheriff called the

[22:18] plot quote a very real threat to the

[22:21] students and teachers in that area.

[22:30] >> There are now 17 confirmed cases of the

[22:32] H1N1 flu virus in Oregon. The flu

[22:34] outbreak has spread to 44 states and

[22:36] more than 2600 confirmed cases. However,

[22:39] some national health administrators say

[22:40] the flu virus is spreading too fast and

[22:43] they may soon stop counting those

[22:44] individual cases. They do say the vast

[22:47] majority of the cases have been mild.

[22:49] However, a Snomish County man in

[22:51] Washington died from complications

[22:53] linked to that same flu virus. He was in

[22:55] his 30s and doctors say he had an

[22:57] underlying heart problem and viral

[22:59] pneumonia. He is the third person in the

[23:01] US to die with the flu as a factor.

[23:04] There are at least 128 confirmed cases

[23:06] of the virus in Washington. That

[23:08] includes two in Clark County.

[23:10] >> Try is promising smoother rides through

[23:12] downtown Portland thanks to some new

[23:14] changes. The transit mall in downtown

[23:15] Portland is getting a makeover. It'll

[23:17] have dedicated lines for the Max Line,

[23:19] buses, and one for cars and bikes. There

[23:22] will also be fewer stops made in

[23:24] downtown, which Prime says will make for

[23:26] faster rides. It's all part of bigger

[23:28] plans.

[23:29] >> We're going to have better service up to

[23:30] Portland State University. and it also

[23:33] getting service through downtown

[23:34] Portland on fifth and sixth is the next

[23:36] step in going extending light rail to

[23:39] Milwaukee. So that's very important to

[23:40] us.

[23:42] >> Try's also building new MAC stations,

[23:44] transit shelters, and signs. Security

[23:46] cameras will be installed at all stops.

[23:48] >> Now you can help keep Portland park safe

[23:50] and clean all while sitting in front of

[23:52] your computer. The city's parks and

[23:53] recck department just launched this

[23:54] website called Park Scan, and they say

[23:58] it's a forum for you to keep them posted

[23:59] about the good and bad conditions in

[24:01] your favorite park. City Commissioner

[24:07] like you to do the same.

[24:10] >> And today, we're asking the citizens of

[24:47] And we have an idol sneak peek.

[24:52] >> I think all of us are going to probably

[24:53] be shedding some tears that day.

[24:57] >> Why the contestants say the waterworks

[24:59] could fly on tomorrow night's episode.

[25:01] We'll give you the inside scoop tonight.

[25:03] That and much more coming up at the top

[25:04] of the hour on the 11:00 news.

[25:08] Well, with only three guys left on

[25:10] American Idol, Simon Cowell says he

[25:12] thinks he already knows the winner.

[25:13] Cowell says Adam Lambert will be the

[25:15] last one standing at the end of the

[25:16] season. Kell says Lambert's his guy

[25:18] because he's fearless, unique, and he

[25:20] says he's got swagger. The two other

[25:22] finalists, Chris Allen and Danny Gouki,

[25:24] will not be handing Lambert the crown

[25:26] just yet, though. Tune in tomorrow

[25:28] night, see when the finalists visit

[25:30] their hometowns, and each will perform

[25:31] two songs tomorrow.

[25:35] >> Fox 12 chief meteorologist Mark Nelson

[25:37] joins us now. It's always a kind of an

[25:38] exciting time of the year when you can

[25:40] go from 60s to 80s, even 90s in a day or

[25:43] two

[25:43] >> and right back to 60 sometimes.

[25:44] Sometimes you can drop 20 degrees after

[25:46] a heat wave. Yeah, we do see a mix of

[25:48] everything coming up in the 7-day

[25:49] forecast. In fact, on the weather blog

[25:50] tonight, I put what do you think of the

[25:52] spring so far? You can vote some one of

[25:53] the new things we have there. So, you're

[25:55] welcome to go on there. But it seems

[25:56] like the overwhelming majority of people

[25:57] so far are saying, "Hey, it's been a

[25:59] pretty decent spring. A mixture of rain,

[26:01] warm spells, then some more rain. Air

[26:04] smelled nice and clean this evening as I

[26:05] took a bike ride." It's just keep things

[26:07] >> pretty nice. Okay, let's take a look at

[26:09] the outside conditions right now. At

[26:11] this hour, we have a few scattered

[26:12] showers showing up on our radar. Here's

[26:14] the outside view, of course. And on the

[26:15] Wamtt River, it's pretty quiet at this

[26:17] hour, but let's go to the radar. Uh the

[26:19] shower that was over in the middle

[26:20] Portland seems to have pretty much

[26:22] diminished, disappeared here, and we'll

[26:24] go a little wider. And what you'll see

[26:26] is showers moving onshore from the west

[26:28] here into the coast range. Also quite a

[26:30] few have developed west slopes of the

[26:32] Cascades pretty quickly here just to the

[26:34] far eastern edge of the metro area just

[26:35] within the last hour or so. Looks like

[26:36] the west end of the gorge um along I 84

[26:39] up towards Multma Falls between Multma

[26:41] Falls and Corbett and Troutdale and also

[26:43] Highway 26 once you get east of uh just

[26:45] east of Gresham actually through Boring

[26:47] and also Sandy. Plenty of rainfall. This

[26:49] uh rainfall will increase in intensity

[26:51] and coverage here as we go through the

[26:52] overnight hours. So it'll basically turn

[26:54] wet as we go through the nighttime

[26:55] tonight. Okay, it's report card time.

[26:57] Here are the last five days, last week's

[27:00] five days. And I have to point out, Drew

[27:02] Jackson actually did one of these

[27:03] Wednesday. He did well. He got 100 100%

[27:05] for his uh low, high, and rainfall. We

[27:07] missed one high temperature on Friday.

[27:09] It was cooler than we expected when the

[27:11] weather started turning a bit nicer, but

[27:13] uh 90% of the time we were within 3

[27:15] degrees of the high and low temperature,

[27:16] 100% on the rainfall. Did pretty well.

[27:18] Had a good week. Uh we'll see if we do

[27:20] as well this week. Okay, our Shinukquins

[27:22] beach cam this evening before the

[27:24] sunset. Caught a few showers moving on

[27:26] shore. Also some sun breaks. Nice

[27:28] evening out at the beaches. Not too much

[27:29] wind. The wind coming in from the west.

[27:31] You'll see the same thing coming up

[27:33] again for tomorrow. And today, very

[27:35] typical midmay day. 66 degrees here in

[27:37] Portland and hit the average high right

[27:38] on the nose. And you go east of the

[27:40] Cascades, got some 60s, maybe a 70 or

[27:42] so. We'll see a cool down the next few

[27:44] days and then a big warmup as we get

[27:46] into the very end of the week. As I

[27:48] mentioned, Portland, the only warm spot

[27:50] here, relatively warm west side.

[27:51] Everybody else in the 40s west side,

[27:53] some 40s and some 50s east side. But the

[27:55] showers will spread onshore as we go

[27:56] through the overnight hours. As I

[27:58] mentioned, uh here's the big picture.

[27:59] And you can see the weak system that

[28:00] went through last night. Didn't do too

[28:02] much. Didn't give us much in the way of

[28:03] showers. See the big swirl here? It's a

[28:05] pool of cold air sitting right offshore.

[28:07] That's going to move in and then this

[28:09] real wet system is right on its heels.

[28:11] That wet system is going to arrive

[28:12] probably by Wednesday afternoon. The

[28:14] general pattern though is for that cool

[28:16] air to move overhead. That brings snow

[28:17] down about 3,000 ft in the Cascade

[28:19] Passes. And then the westerly flow keeps

[28:22] us pretty wet for Wednesday and on into

[28:24] Thursday. And the general trend here for

[28:26] three days is pretty wet weather. The

[28:28] only break maybe is going to be on

[28:29] Wednesday morning. The next real dry day

[28:31] probably not until Friday. So here's

[28:33] your forecast. First east of the

[28:34] Cascades for tomorrow. Looks like

[28:36] showers to the north, a little bit drier

[28:38] to the south. And notice cooler

[28:39] temperatures. Almost everybody stays in

[28:41] the 50s. Cascades, maybe 3 to 5 ines of

[28:43] snow up there. Timberline stays in the

[28:45] mid20s for high temperatures for

[28:47] tomorrow. And then west of the Cascades,

[28:49] a cool day tomorrow. Showers, I think

[28:51] the showers will be mainly in the first

[28:52] half of the day. I think by afternoon

[28:54] things will be drying out. West side of

[28:56] town, I think all of us will stay in the

[28:58] 50s. 57 at Lake OGO and only 55 up at

[29:01] Battleground and Clark County. And east

[29:02] side cool as well. 55 at Sandy, about 57

[29:06] at Trout. Here in the city, cool and

[29:07] showery coming up for your Tuesday. Most

[29:09] of the showers the first half of the day

[29:11] I think we maybe as you can see here

[29:13] drying out for the evening and then

[29:15] we've got more rain coming in Wednesday

[29:16] afternoon maybe as early as Wednesday

[29:18] midday and as I said drying out Friday

[29:20] and boy the weekend looks spectacular.

[29:22] We could be in the mid 80s Sunday and

[29:24] also Monday.

[29:28] Matters of the heart in tonight's final

[29:30] cut, including the high school student

[29:32] who now may not graduate. All because he

[29:34] went to the prom. Dozens of puppies in

[29:38] danger. But ahead, see how some people

[29:40] with big hearts came together to make

[29:41] sure all of these dogs get loving homes.

[29:44] And here in town, see how something with

[29:46] a fake heart could someday save your

[29:48] life. The final pack is next.

[33:14] >> Stand by the final cut in 3 2 1. Cue

[33:17] them. And the final cut begins with news

[33:19] around the Northwest tonight. An Idaho

[33:21] family is breathing a sigh of relief

[33:22] after a toddler had an accident carrying

[33:24] a pencil that could have cost him his

[33:27] life. Imagine this. 18-month-old Austin

[33:29] Banks is recovering from surgery now.

[33:31] But Saturday, his mom says that he

[33:33] tripped and then fell on a pencil that

[33:35] he had in his hand. That pencil went

[33:38] right through his mouth and almost out

[33:40] the back of his head.

[33:42] I wanted to pull it out, but I saw blood

[33:45] coming out of his mouth and

[33:48] she's just screaming at me, "We got to

[33:50] go. We got to go." So, I run to the

[33:51] house, grab the keys. His parents did

[33:53] get him to the hospital where doctors

[33:55] then performed surgery. The pencil went

[33:57] right in between his spine and corroted

[34:00] artery. Good news though, doctors expect

[34:03] the infant to make a full recovery. Wow.

[34:06] Two baby girls were switched at birth 56

[34:08] years ago. And now they have finally

[34:11] found out about that mistake. They

[34:12] learned about it from an 86-year-old

[34:14] woman who used to be one of their

[34:16] neighbors in Heapner, Oregon. One of the

[34:18] women from Condan chose to have a DNA

[34:20] test done. And now that woman, the women

[34:23] know, they say that they will just move

[34:25] on with their lives. And they even

[34:26] celebrated their latest birthday

[34:28] together earlier this month.

[34:32] Now in the final cut, we are looking at

[34:33] news across America tonight and police

[34:35] in Maryland are looking for a suspect in

[34:37] the mysterious death of a pregnant

[34:38] woman. A jogger found her body on the

[34:40] football field at a military academy in

[34:42] Forestville yesterday. The victim's a

[34:45] 19-year-old family members say she was

[34:47] four months pregnant. They also say in

[34:49] recent weeks the victim had been

[34:50] threatened. Tonight her father is

[34:52] pleading with the person responsible to

[34:54] turn themselves in.

[34:56] >> Why would she do this? I mean, to a

[34:58] young 19-year-old girl trying to live,

[35:01] haven't even experienced life yet. I

[35:03] mean, why would you do this?

[35:06] >> So far, investigators will not say how

[35:08] the woman died. The manhunt for a

[35:10] University of Georgia marketing

[35:11] professor is over. Search dogs found

[35:13] George Zincan dead in a shallow grave.

[35:16] It's not far from the crime scene where

[35:17] he shot and killed his wife and two

[35:19] other men near a community theater on

[35:21] April 25th. It could take several days

[35:23] before investigators find out exactly

[35:25] what killed the professor.

[35:26] >> A trip to the prom looks like it could

[35:28] cost one high school senior his

[35:30] graduation ceremony. Tyler Frost is now

[35:32] suspended from the fundamentalist

[35:34] Baptist school that he attends in Ohio.

[35:36] The reason is because he attended his

[35:38] girlfriend's prom at another school.

[35:40] Frost school forbids dancing, listening

[35:42] to rock music, and holding hands, but he

[35:45] freely admits he broke those rules by

[35:46] going to the other prom. A radio station

[35:49] rallied on Frost's behalf, though in

[35:51] front of the school today.

[35:53] >> I still think the punishment's a little

[35:54] overboard, but uh I guess I'm ready to

[35:57] face his punishment now.

[35:59] >> Frost has attended the school since

[36:00] kindergarten. Both he and his parents

[36:02] signed a contract acknowledging those

[36:04] school rules. He will still receive his

[36:06] diploma, though, from the school. Dozens

[36:08] of dogs are being saved thanks to

[36:10] thousands of dollars raised by

[36:12] volunteers. Now, the dogs belong to a

[36:14] breeder and were to be sold at auction

[36:16] to another breeder or a puppy mill.

[36:18] Animal rights supporters say if they

[36:20] they could have been killed if they

[36:22] didn't sell. So, instead, a Denver

[36:24] organization decided to do something

[36:25] about it. They raised $14,000 to buy all

[36:28] of them and then put them up for

[36:30] adoption.

[36:32] These dogs today, they won the dog

[36:34] lottery because they're going to go into

[36:36] loving homes. They're going to

[36:38] experience human beings that love them

[36:40] and they can love back. Some of those

[36:42] dogs are young, some are older. They are

[36:45] also all different breeds.

[36:46] >> A Florida boy is walking a long way, all

[36:49] for a good cause. By the end of the

[36:50] summer, an 11-year-old boy, that boy

[36:52] will have walked 1,200 miles. He hopes

[36:56] to raise $60,000 for homeless kids in

[36:58] Washington DC to get them off the

[37:00] streets and into programs that can help.

[37:03] >> It kind of gets boring in some places,

[37:06] but um it's uh there's just a lot of

[37:09] things that go on. people stop and, you

[37:12] know, ask what I'm doing and if I want

[37:14] to ride, which obviously no. But

[37:17] >> wow. Now, this isn't the first time Zach

[37:19] Bonner has attacked an issue. He also

[37:21] helped victims when Hurricane Charlie

[37:23] hit Florida. You know that assignment

[37:25] where you write about your summer

[37:26] vacation? Well, this boy is sure going

[37:28] to have a lot to say about that one next

[37:30] fall.

[37:32] >> In news around the world tonight, how

[37:33] would you like to meet what is perhaps

[37:34] the smartest orangutang in the world?

[37:37] Well, we're going to show it to you

[37:38] right now. Take a look at some of this

[37:39] video here. 27-year-old Carta tried to

[37:42] get out of an Australian zoo.

[37:43] Apparently, the primate jammed a stick

[37:46] into wires that were connected to the

[37:47] fence, then piled up some branches to

[37:49] climb up a concrete and glass wall. Then

[37:53] she changed her mind about the escape,

[37:55] decided to just sit and wait for zoo

[37:56] officials to come get her. From a smart

[37:59] orangutane to a smart robot in Tokyo,

[38:01] they now have a robot teaching children

[38:03] about, you guessed it, robots. The kids

[38:06] were told the special guest teacher was

[38:08] going to come to their class. Now, the

[38:09] man who built the machine says she's not

[38:11] designed to replace teachers. Instead,

[38:14] they say she is there to help teach kids

[38:16] about technology.

[38:19] >> So, you've probably heard of airline

[38:20] pilots honing their skills with flight

[38:22] simulators, but that kind of training

[38:23] isn't just for the airline industry

[38:25] anymore. Now, doctors and nurses at a

[38:27] local hospital are simulating medical

[38:29] emergencies with the help of some

[38:31] high-tech mannequins to make sure they

[38:33] know exactly what to do if you ever need

[38:35] them. KPTV's Jamie Wilson has the story

[38:37] you'll see only on 12.

[38:40] >> We're going to do our best by you to

[38:41] make sure we we fix this situation for

[38:43] you. Okay.

[38:44] >> Inside the Kath lab at Kaiser Sunnyside

[38:46] Hospital today, patient Rachel Masters

[38:49] is having a blockage removed from her

[38:51] heart.

[38:52] >> What is your birthday?

[38:54] >> Oh my goodness, honey. I'm so nervous. I

[38:56] don't know if I can tell you.

[38:57] >> That's okay. Rachel has a voice, a

[39:00] medical history, and even a pulse. But

[39:02] she doesn't really have a heart because

[39:04] Rachel is a mannequin. And everything

[39:06] about her and this procedure is

[39:08] simulation training.

[39:10] >> It gives us the opportunity to see how

[39:11] individuals are performing, but the most

[39:14] important information is how a team

[39:15] works together.

[39:16] >> Assistant Chief of Staff Dr. Amy

[39:18] Lawrence says they've been doing

[39:20] simulation training for a little over a

[39:22] year and this is the first Kaiser

[39:24] facility in the nation to have a

[39:26] dedicated simulation center and team.

[39:29] Lawrence says it's safer for everyone if

[39:31] her staff can master their skills during

[39:34] a simulation instead of a real

[39:36] emergency.

[39:37] >> They figured out a long time ago that

[39:39] piloting a plane is a very important job

[39:41] that requires practice. And you don't

[39:43] want to practice when people's lives are

[39:45] at risk. And just minutes into the

[39:47] procedure, the risk goes way up when

[39:49] something goes wrong.

[39:55] >> The mannequin's pulse drops and she goes

[39:58] into cardiac arrest. That's when the

[40:00] team jumps into action.

[40:02] >> Okay, everybody clear?

[40:03] >> Yeah, come back.

[40:04] >> Shocking.

[40:05] >> They try to shock her heart back to life

[40:07] and then they turn to CPR. And

[40:10] cardiologist Dr. Philip says this is not

[40:13] unusual. 6 27 28 29 30

[40:16] >> This is a very common setting. Yeah,

[40:18] this could happen, you know, once a

[40:20] month.

[40:21] >> Shock delivered. You have a rhythm?

[40:24] >> Okay, great.

[40:26] >> After 10 minutes, the team's efforts

[40:28] have paid off. A regular heartbeat

[40:30] returns. Dr. Al finishes the procedure

[40:33] and Rachel Masters is taken to intensive

[40:35] care.

[40:36] >> So, I want to talk about what happened

[40:37] today, what went well. After the

[40:40] simulation, the team has a debriefing to

[40:42] hash out what worked and what didn't.

[40:44] They talk about some problems with

[40:46] communication and protecting the sterile

[40:48] environment, but overall it was a

[40:50] success. And Dr. Lawrence is confident

[40:53] that any real patient here would have

[40:55] the same result.

[40:57] >> They saved the patient, which is exactly

[40:58] what we would expect if uh something

[41:00] were to happen to one of our patients

[41:01] here unexpectedly.

[41:02] >> In Clackamus, Jamie Wilson, the 10:00

[41:05] news.

[41:06] >> Wow, that's fascinating. Kaiser

[41:08] simulation team has other mannequins

[41:10] used for training, including one that

[41:11] bleeds and another that has a baby.

[41:14] Well, if you are worried at all about

[41:16] heart health, this story is a story you

[41:18] have to stay up for. See the saltiest

[41:19] foods in America, who's selling them,

[41:22] and how much salt you're really eating

[41:23] when you order them. It's coming up

[45:40] three others hurt. It happened in

[45:41] Baghdad inside a stress counseling

[45:44] clinic at Camp Liberty. So far, it is

[46:10] cameras and make some repairs to try to

[46:12] extend the telescope's life. The

[50:26] Kawari. And now here's a look at Fox 12

[50:27] top stories. We begin with KPTV's Mark

[50:29] Hanhan live with what's new at 11

[50:31] tonight. Mark. Well, Kevin, a Salem

[50:33] pharmacy worker is shaken up after her

[50:35] family says a man held a knife to her

[50:36] throat while holding a crowbar in his

[50:38] other hand, demanding prescription drugs

[50:40] from her. Well, now police want your

[50:41] help tracking down two of Fox 12's most

[50:44] wanted.

[50:48] >> He just said, "I want you to do what I

[50:49] tell you to do or I will kill this

[50:51] woman."

[50:52] >> It's been an emotional night for this

[50:53] woman named Sheila, who asked that we

[50:55] not show her face after she says a man

[50:57] threatened to kill her mom. and she

[50:59] thought he was going to kill her and she

[51:01] was never going to see her kids again.

[51:02] >> The ordeal started at around 4:30 this

[51:05] afternoon when police say a man armed

[51:06] with a knife walked inside this Salem

[51:08] Ride aid store on Lancaster Drive, went

[51:10] back to the pharmacy and demanded

[51:12] prescription drugs. And while

[51:14] investigators have not confirmed this,

[51:15] Sheila says the suspect held the knife

[51:17] to her mom's throat while he told her

[51:19] co-workers to hand over the pills. The

[51:21] guy went up behind her and grab and held

[51:23] the knife to her throat and held her arm

[51:25] and told her that if she didn't give him

[51:28] the medicine, the medication that he

[51:30] wanted that he would kill her.

[51:32] >> Sheila's mom works as a pharmacy

[51:34] technician. And according to her

[51:35] daughter, the suspect was after

[51:37] Oxycottton. And once the workers gave

[51:39] him what Sheila describes as a bottle of

[51:41] the pills, she says he released her mom

[51:43] and took off. He grabbed the pills and

[51:46] dropped the crowbar and jumped the

[51:49] counter and ran out the door.

[51:51] >> Once outside, police say another man in

[51:53] a getaway car picked him up and the two

[51:55] sped away. According to Sheila, leaving

[51:57] the workers here terrified.

[51:59] >> Now, my mom's scared. She doesn't know

[52:00] if she's going to have to face him again

[52:02] or if he's going to come back.

[52:03] >> Police searched the area and are now

[52:05] reviewing the store surveillance system

[52:06] to try to get a better look at the

[52:08] suspects, who for now remain on the run.

[52:10] And while nobody was injured, Sheila

[52:12] says it will be a long time before her

[52:13] mom is back to normal and able to return

[52:16] to work.

[52:16] >> She said that she took one last breath

[52:18] and all she can think about was her kids

[52:20] and her grandkids and her family and her

[52:22] husband.

[52:24] >> Now, both the alleged robber and getaway

[52:25] driver described as white adult men. The

[52:27] alleged robber is said to be in his 20s.

[52:29] The car they sped away in is described

[52:31] as a red two-door Toyota Corolla with

[52:34] faded paint. If you think you might know

[52:35] who those suspects are or anything about

[52:37] this case that could help, please

[52:38] contact Salem Police. Reporting live in

[52:41] the mobile newsroom tonight, I'm Mark

[52:42] Andraham, the 11:00 news. A local man is

[52:45] in the Clackamus County jail tonight,

[52:46] accused of raping his coworker inside of

[52:49] a restaurant. Avani Valdo Allejo

[52:51] Sebastian made his first appearance in

[52:53] court this afternoon. Clackamus County

[52:55] deputies say they were called to the

[52:56] Wendy's along southeast Mclofflin

[52:59] sometime yesterday where they say the

[53:00] victim was raped while in the

[53:02] restaurant's bathroom. Now, deputies

[53:04] arrested Allejo Sebastian after

[53:06] interviewing the accuser, witnesses, and

[53:08] the suspects himself. Tonight, he's

[53:10] facing charges of rape and sexual abuse

[53:12] and being held on a $250,000 bail. And

[53:16] the Clackamus County deputies do say

[53:17] that he is being held on an INS hold

[53:20] tonight in Milwaukee. Chad Carter, the

[53:23] 11:00 news. Only on 12 tonight, Fox 12's

[53:26] most wanted broke into a mom and pop

[53:28] restaurant in Long View to steal cash,

[53:31] but in the process did thousands of

[53:34] dollars in damage to the diner. The

[53:37] break-in happened early Friday morning

[53:39] at Stuffies 2 in Long View. Stuffies is

[53:42] known for its giant portions and the

[53:44] world's largest cinnamon rolls made from

[53:46] scratch. The 50s themed diner is

[53:49] decorated with several collector's

[53:51] items, but the thief did not take any of

[53:53] those and he or she was unable to get

[53:56] into the office safe. But owner Glenda

[53:59] Dueling says the thief did know exactly

[54:01] where to bust into the wall to the

[54:03] office and the thief was also able to

[54:06] tamper with the video surveillance

[54:08] system, so there is no footage of the

[54:10] crime. Dueling and Long View detectives

[54:13] think the suspect was a former employee

[54:16] or someone who somehow knew the layout

[54:18] of the restaurant's back office. If you

[54:20] have any information on this case,

[54:22] you're asked to call Long View Police.

[54:24] Reporting from the Fox 12 mobile

[54:25] newsroom tonight, Stephanie Carlo, the

[54:28] 11:00 news. Warrington police say they

[54:30] want to encourage anyone who owns a gun

[54:32] to use gun locks like this after a

[54:34] 12-year-old boy accidentally shot

[54:36] himself to death yesterday. Police and

[54:38] deputies responded to a call at this

[54:39] home just before 10:00 yesterday

[54:41] morning. They say 12-year-old Austin

[54:43] Wesley had accidentally shot himself

[54:45] with a pistol his family owns. Cops say

[54:48] they're still investigating just what

[54:50] happened, but that foul play was not a

[54:52] factor. Today, Warrington Grade School

[54:54] provided counselors and a safe room to

[54:56] grieve. Police in Warrington give out

[54:58] gunlocks like this for free. Tonight,

[55:00] they say they want to remind every gun

[55:01] owner, especially parents, to keep their

[55:04] weapons safely locked up. They recommend

[55:06] storing guns and ammunition in separate

[55:08] places and to have a trigger lock or

[55:10] another locking mechanism on any

[55:11] weapons. The principal says they'll have

[55:13] counselors here at the school through

[55:15] the end of the week in Warrington. Mark

[55:16] Ross, the 11:00 News.

[55:21] And we have an update now to the

[55:22] breaking news we brought you earlier.

[55:23] Right now, authorities say an unattended

[55:25] suitcase left at the Salem Center Mall

[55:27] was in fact empty. Fox 12's cameras were

[55:30] rolling as Salem Police's bomb squad

[55:33] blew it up.

[55:38] Around 8:00 tonight, a woman called

[55:40] police after she came out of the mall

[55:41] and found the suitcase right next to her

[55:44] car. The woman told dispatchers the

[55:45] suitcase was not there when she was

[55:47] parked and she was concerned that it may

[55:49] be dangerous. The Salem bomb squad later

[55:51] used a robot to detonate the suitcase.

[55:53] During their investigation, part of the

[55:54] mall parking lot. JC Penney and McGrath

[55:57] Fish House were evacuated and several

[55:59] streets were shut down.

[56:06] In our top three national headlines

[56:08] tonight, three teens are recovering

[56:09] after being hit in a drive-by shooting.

[56:11] Police say someone opened fire this

[56:13] afternoon on Chicago Southside, hitting

[56:15] the teens. The victims were 15, 18, and

[56:18] 19. The gunman then crashed into several

[56:20] parked cars before leaving the scene.

[56:22] Authorities say the two oldest victims

[56:24] are in critical condition. The third is

[56:27] serious but stable.

[56:29] President Barack Obama has fired the top

[56:32] US general in Afghanistan. Acting on the

[56:34] recommendation of the Pentagon, the

[56:36] president has replaced General David

[56:38] McCurin with a former special forces

[56:40] commander, Lieutenant General Stanley

[56:42] Mcristel. Officials say Obama is trying

[56:44] to make a more agile, unconventional

[56:46] approach to a war against the Taliban

[56:48] that has quickly gone downhill. To North

[56:52] Carolina now, where people are picking

[56:53] up the pieces after a major storm

[56:55] damaged several homes. Winds up to 20

[56:59] 125 mph tore through parts of the state

[57:01] this morning. Fox 12 meteorologist Drew

[57:03] Jackson says those winds are about as

[57:05] strong as what you'd feel during an EF3

[57:07] tornado.

[57:10] North Carolina not the only spot getting

[57:12] pounded with wild weather right now. In

[57:14] news from around the world tonight, tons

[57:16] of hail it gets caught on camera as it

[57:18] pounds this area of New Delhi. You can

[57:20] see it making waves in a swimming pool

[57:22] here in a moment and just causing chaos

[57:24] in the affected area. Witnesses say the

[57:26] storm came out of nowhere. Started with

[57:28] thunder, a few raindrops, and then this

[57:31] massive hail storm.

[57:35] Seafood lovers beware. In news across

[57:37] the Northwest tonight, you might find

[57:38] your favorite restaurant has been

[57:40] serving you faulty fish. Some fish

[57:42] lovers complained that a Belleview fish

[57:44] broker had been serving turbet instead

[57:46] of halibet. Turbet is a cheap fish often

[57:49] used to imitate highquality fish.

[57:51] Federal agents say they found cases of

[57:53] turbid at a Washington processing

[57:54] facility where it had been mislabeled as

[57:56] halibet. The agency says the owner of

[57:59] Malard Cove Seafood in Belleview pleaded

[58:01] guilty to the scheme.

[58:06] To the economic crisis now. A popular

[58:08] Portland sushi spot has closed its

[58:10] doors. Busushch Garden Japanese

[58:12] restaurant on Southwest Morrison Street

[58:14] is closed until further notice.

[58:16] According to a note posted on the

[58:18] restaurant's door, the business has not

[58:19] been profitable for several years. The

[58:22] note goes on to say that the ongoing

[58:23] development and street closures in the

[58:25] area also played a role in it closing.

[58:27] The restaurant first opened in 1960.

[58:31] >> Now, Portland's first complete forecast

[58:34] at 11 from your first live local weather

[58:36] team.

[58:37] >> Well, we ended up getting a break from

[58:38] the rain today. A little bit of an

[58:40] unexpected break at that. There weren't

[58:42] that many showers out there, but the

[58:43] showers are increasing tonight and it's

[58:45] going to be a chilly night and a cool

[58:47] day tomorrow as those showers will be

[58:48] around, but it really looks like we're

[58:50] going to warm up this weekend. In fact,

[58:51] warm may not be the best word for the

[58:52] weekend. How about hot? It's probably a

[58:54] more applicable word. More on that in a

[58:56] moment. But outside right now, this is

[58:57] what it looks like live from our river

[58:59] camera. It's a dry night right now in

[59:01] the immediate Portland area, but there

[59:02] are showers looming on the horizon. In

[59:04] fact, we can check some of those out on

[59:06] live radar right now. Here's the city

[59:07] center itself, I5 20584. You can see dry

[59:11] there, but when you head down to the

[59:12] south, say just to the west of Sherwood,

[59:14] some showers. I'll expand this view

[59:16] here, and you can see towards the

[59:17] Cascade Foothills and especially out

[59:19] into western Washington County now, some

[59:20] showers starting to increase. Some

[59:22] yellow in here indicating some at least

[59:24] moderate rain, but these showers not

[59:26] very large. So, where it is raining,

[59:27] won't be raining for long. All right,

[59:29] let's switch to the temperatures we have

[59:30] in the metro area right now. We're

[59:32] seeing readings ranging from 47 to 52

[59:35] degrees depending on the spot. And

[59:36] really not unusually cool for this time

[59:38] of year, but a little on the chilly

[59:39] side. And around the rest of the

[59:40] Northwest, it's 48 at Kelso, 49 Salem,

[59:43] mid40s along the coast, east of the

[59:45] Cascades. Right now, it's ranging from

[59:47] 42 at Burns to 53 at the Dow. So,

[59:49] overnight tonight, we'll see those

[59:51] showers start to increase and become a

[59:53] bit more widespread. West the Cascades.

[59:55] So, tomorrow morning, likely to be wet,

[59:57] low to mid-40s west side for overnight

[59:59] lows. And east the Cascades, maybe a

[60:01] spotty shower here or there, but

[60:03] temperatures near freezing at the

[60:04] lowest. And some spots will only be down

[60:06] in the mid-40s. All right, notice this

[60:08] swirl right in here. That's a really

[60:10] cold pocket of air in the middle number

[60:12] levels of the atmosphere. And this is

[60:13] going to move by tonight into Twan

[60:14] Warning. And that's why the showers will

[60:16] pick up a little bit. And as I

[60:18] mentioned, a very very chilly shot of

[60:20] air. So the snow level is actually going

[60:21] to dip to 3 to 4,000 ft. There could be

[60:24] 3 to 5 ines of snow starting later

[60:26] tonight and continuing through tomorrow.

[60:27] Even at past elevations in the Cascades,

[60:30] but then we go from almost winterlike

[60:32] weather to summerlike weather at the end

[60:33] of the week. Huge area of high pressure

[60:35] looks to develop over the west by this

[60:37] weekend. That will send our temperatures

[60:39] not into the 70s, but it looks like at

[60:42] this point even into the mid 80s by

[60:44] Sunday and perhaps even into early next

[60:46] week. So big ups and downs in our

[60:48] weathers here coming up. Cold showers

[60:50] tomorrow, but drying later in the day

[60:51] along the coast with highs in the

[60:52] mid-50s. Also a chilly day with showers

[60:54] in the Wamut Valley. Showers will be

[60:56] more numerous in the morning than the

[60:57] afternoon. As I mentioned up on Mount

[60:59] Hood, 3 to 5 ines of snow. Timberland

[61:01] Lodge just 25 tomorrow afternoon at east

[61:03] the Cascades. Tomorrow you'll see just a

[61:06] few
