[0:36] >> Good evening. The weekend massacre of
[0:39] seven Palestinians by an Israeli man has
[0:41] triggered protests that threatened to
[0:43] expand to civil war in that country. And
[0:45] tonight, there are ominous signs that
[0:47] the whole Middle East could be inflamed.
[0:49] Israeli soldiers shot and killed three
[0:51] Arab protesters and wounded close to a
[0:53] hundred in the Gaza Strip today. NBC's
[0:56] Martin Fletcher tells us tonight this is
[0:58] a time of agony for both sides.
[1:01] >> This is Israel's worst nightmare that
[1:04] Israeli Arabs, Israeli citizens will
[1:06] join hands with their Palestinian
[1:07] cousins who live under occupation and
[1:09] rebel against Israel. It happened today
[1:12] in Nazareth, East Jerusalem, half a
[1:14] dozen other Arab towns.
[1:18] Because these are Israeli citizens, the
[1:20] police, not the army, put down the
[1:22] protests. No deaths, no wounded.

[1:29] were deaths and wounded. Although the
[1:31] 650,000 Arabs here are under curfew. The
[1:34] outbreak of violence is all in protest
[1:36] over yesterday's massacre of seven
[1:38] Palestinians near Tel Aviv. This man did
[1:41] it. He stole his brother's army uniform
[1:43] and assault rifle and fired into a crowd
[1:46] of 100 Palestini
