[13:04] Wonder consider all the worlds thy hands

[13:10] have

[13:11] made I see the

[13:14] stars I hear The Rolling

[13:51] Art How

[13:53] Great

[13:55] Thou Art

[13:59] when through the

[14:01] woods and Forest Glades I

[14:06] wonder and hear the birds sing sweetly

[14:11] in the

[14:13] trees when I look down from lofty

[14:18] mountain

[14:21] grandure and hear the brook and feel the

[14:26] gentle breeze

[14:29] then sings my

[14:31] soul my savior God to

[15:17] in that on the cross my burden gladly

[15:25] bearing he bled and died to to take away

[15:50] soul my savior God to

[15:54] thee How Great Thou Art

[15:59] how

[16:00] great

[16:02] [Music]

[16:05] thou all right before we sing this next

[16:07] verse when we read our verse in Psalms

[16:11] chapter N9 it said with my whole

[16:16] heart are you giving God your whole

[16:20] heart in singing praise to

[16:22] him what we

[16:24] want when we sing out with our whole

[16:27] heart to God is give him everything

[16:28] everything we

[16:29] got that means we're ugly

[16:33] singing that means we're pouring it all

[16:36] out that Vein on your neck's popping CU

[16:39] he's a great God and he's worthy to be

[16:41] praised and so let's not treat this as

[16:44] just an exercise and biting time but

[16:47] we're singing to almighty God and give

[16:50] it your whole heart in praise to him so

[16:53] let's really lift it up on this next

[16:56] verse and let it rip let that vein pop

[16:59] do that ugly singing where you're giving

[17:01] it everything you got today all right

[17:04] amen verse number four when Christ shall

[17:09] come with shout of acclamations let's

[17:12] lift it up on that

[17:14] last when Christ shall

[17:17] come with shout of

[17:21] acclamation and take me

[17:24] home but joy shall fill my heart heart

[17:30] then I shall

[17:32] bow in Humble

[17:36] adoration and there

[17:39] Proclaim my God how great thou

[17:44] art then sings my

[17:47] soul my savior God to

[17:52] thee How Great Thou

[17:55] Art How Great Thou Art heart then sings

[18:01] my

[18:02] soul my savior God to

[18:06] thee How Great Thou

[18:12] Art how

[18:14] [Applause]

[18:16] great

[18:25] the amen you may be seated the Lord he's

[18:29] a great God Amen so thankful for the

[18:32] Lord are you looking forward to going

[18:34] home to Heaven one day amen if you got

[18:36] your Bibles go to the Book of Jonah

[18:38] chapter number one Jonah chapter number

[18:40] one we're going to preach Jonah chapter

[18:42] 1 and Jonah chapter 2 veres 1-9 this

[18:45] morning looking forward to a great time

[18:47] in the Lord's House I want to invite you

[18:49] today to stay with us for our afternoon

[18:51] service it'll be right after the

[18:53] fellowship in the gym We'll come back in

[18:55] here for the afternoon service today got

[18:58] some special music and singing today so

[19:00] I want to encourage you to stick around

[19:02] for the afternoon service Jonah he's a

[19:05] prophet he's considered one of the Minor

[19:07] Prophets not because he's a less Prophet

[19:09] than one of the other ones but the Minor

[19:12] Prophets are called Minor Prophets

[19:13] because of the size of their books so

[19:16] Jonah is considered a minor prophet and

[19:18] he served during this time and Jonah is

[19:22] sent to Nineveh a gentile City uh to

[19:27] prophesy and minister to them so this

[19:30] morning we're going to be in Jonah

[19:32] chapter 1 and chapter 2 and then the

[19:35] afternoon service I'm going to preach

[19:37] chapter three and the Lord just put on

[19:40] my heart the last couple days the Book

[19:42] of Jonah and I've preached this probably

[19:45] four or five times since I've been a

[19:46] pastoring here but this is the first

[19:48] time I'm going to preach it this way you

[19:50] say well what does that mean well hang

[19:53] on I'm going to point out some things

[19:54] that I don't normally point out because

[19:56] God pointed them out to me and so I want

[19:58] to share with you what God shared with

[20:00] me all right so if you're able to would

[20:02] you please stand and honor the word of

[20:03] God we're going to read Jonah chapter

[20:05] number one verse number one and then

[20:07] we're going to read all the way down to

[20:09] chapter 2 verse number nine now the word

[20:12] of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of

[20:14] amti saying arise go to Nineveh that

[20:17] great City and cry against it for their

[20:20] wickedness has come up before me but

[20:22] Jonah rose up to flee under Tarsus from

[20:26] the presence of the Lord and went down

[20:27] to japa

[20:29] found a ship going to Tarsus there tarus

[20:31] so he paid the fair thereof went down

[20:34] into it to go with them under Tarsus

[20:36] from the presence of the Lord but the

[20:40] Lord sent out a great wind into the sea

[20:43] there was a mighty Tempest in the sea so

[20:45] that the ship was like to be

[20:47] broken then the Mariners were afraid and

[20:49] cried every man unto his God cast forth

[20:52] their Wares that were with were in the

[20:54] ship into the sea to lighten it of them

[20:57] but Jonah was gone down into the to the

[20:58] sides of the ship and he lay and was

[21:01] fast asleep so the shipmaster came to

[21:03] him and said unto him what meanest thou

[21:06] o sleeper arise call upon thy God if so

[21:09] be that God will think upon us that we

[21:11] perish not they said everyone to his

[21:14] fellow come let us cast lots that we may

[21:16] know for whose cause this evil is upon

[21:18] us so they cast lots and the Lots fell

[21:20] upon Jonah then said they unto him tell

[21:23] us we pray thee for whose cause this

[21:26] evil is upon us what is thine occup

[21:28] patient whence comest thou what is thy

[21:31] country and of what people art thou and

[21:34] he said unto them I am in Hebrew and

[21:36] watch this phrase I fear the lord the

[21:41] god of Heaven which hath made the Sea

[21:43] and the dry land then were the men

[21:45] exceedingly afraid and said to him why

[21:47] hast thou done this for the man knew

[21:49] that he fled from the presence of the

[21:50] Lord because he had told them then said

[21:54] they unto him whatat shall we do unto

[21:56] thee that the sea may be calm unto us

[21:58] for the sea rot and was temptu he said

[22:01] unto them take me up and cast me forth

[22:03] into the sea so shall the sea be calm

[22:05] unto you for I know that for my sake

[22:08] this great Tempest is upon you

[22:10] nevertheless the men rode hard to bring

[22:12] it to land but they could not for the

[22:14] sea rought and was temptu against him

[22:16] wherefore they cried un the Lord and

[22:17] said we beseech thee Oh Lord we beseech

[22:19] thee let us not perish for this man's

[22:21] life lay not upon innocent blood for

[22:23] thou oh Lord Hast done it as it pleased

[22:26] thee so they took up Jonah and cast him

[22:28] forth into the sea and the sea sea

[22:30] ceased from her raging then the men

[22:33] feared the Lord exceedingly and offered

[22:35] a sacrifice unto the Lord and made vows

[22:38] now the Lord had prepared a great fish

[22:39] to swallow up Jonah Jonah was in the

[22:42] belly of the fish three days and three

[22:44] nights then Jonah prayed unto the Lord

[22:47] his God out of the fish's belly said I

[22:50] cried by reason of my Affliction of the

[22:51] Lord and he heard me by the belly of

[22:53] Hell cried I and thou heardest my voice

[22:56] for thou Hast cast me into the deep in

[22:58] the mid of the Seas the floods compassed

[23:00] me about all thy Billows and thy waves

[23:02] passed over me then I said I am cast out

[23:05] of thy sight yet I will look again

[23:07] toward thy Holy Temple the waters comp

[23:10] pass me about even to the soul the depth

[23:13] closed around me about the weeds were

[23:15] wrapped about my head I went down to the

[23:18] bottom of the mountains the Earth with

[23:19] her bars was about me forever yeah hast

[23:22] thou brought up life from corruption oh

[23:24] Lord my God when my soul fainted within

[23:27] me watch this

[23:29] I remembered the Lord my prayer came

[23:33] into thee in thine Holy Temple they that

[23:35] observe lying vanities forsake their own

[23:37] Mercy but I will sacrifice unto thee

[23:39] with the voice of Thanksgiving I will

[23:41] pay that I have vow salvation is of the

[23:47] Lord let's go Lord in prayer this

[23:49] morning to Heavenly Father Lord I Thank

[23:50] you for the opportunity to preach your

[23:52] word today Lord I pray if you would

[23:54] please cleanse me of sin and empty me of

[23:56] myself that I might get out of the way

[23:58] this morning and your word may go forth

[24:00] Lord I pray that you speak to our hearts

[24:02] today challenge us from your word help

[24:04] us we need your help today Lord in your

[24:06] name I pray amen thank you for standing

[24:09] you may be

[24:12] seated Jonah's mentioned in other

[24:15] portions of scripture as being a prophet

[24:17] of the Lord and the Lord had used Jonah

[24:20] in prophesying before in fact in Matthew

[24:23] chapter 12 Jesus speaks of

[24:25] Jonah so the ministry of Jonah is not

[24:30] just him being the rebellious Prophet

[24:32] who ran

[24:33] away God uses Jonah in other ways we're

[24:37] going to look at that this

[24:38] morning so he starts off in verse number

[24:41] one the word of the Lord came un Jonah

[24:42] the son of amti saying arise go to

[24:44] Nineveh that great City and cry against

[24:47] it arise and go to Nineveh now Nineveh

[24:51] is a wicked City a wicked City with

[24:53] Wicked people and God tells Jonah go

[24:57] there go and preach under

[25:00] Nineveh so instead of going to

[25:03] Nineveh he goes down to Tarsus trying to

[25:07] get to japa if he'd have made it to japa

[25:10] if he'd have made it to japa he'd have

[25:12] been 2,000 miles away from Nineveh if

[25:15] he' have made it there he

[25:18] didn't that's what he wanted to do now

[25:21] let's look at our text but Jonah so God

[25:24] tells him what to do this is where we

[25:26] begin but Jonah rose up to flee under

[25:29] Tarsus

[25:31] from the

[25:32] presence of the

[25:35] Lord Jonah number one this morning flees

[25:39] from the presence of the Lord he

[25:43] thinks Jonah flees from the presence of

[25:47] the Lord he

[25:49] thinks because we're going to discover

[25:52] you

[25:53] can't you can't flee from the presence

[25:56] of the Lord you say well I can run from

[25:58] God oh you can but he knows where you're

[26:00] at you cannot flee from the presence of

[26:04] the Lord so Jonah says I'm going to flee

[26:07] that's his purpose in his heart I'm

[26:09] getting away from God I'm fleeing from

[26:12] the presence of the Lord so he goes down

[26:16] to Tarsus and he gets on the boat to go

[26:18] to japa so he found his ship he went

[26:21] down to japa found the ship going to

[26:22] tarus sorry if he'd have made it to

[26:24] tarus he' been 2,000 miles away so he

[26:27] pays the fair thereof he goes down into

[26:29] it and he takes off for what purpose the

[26:33] end of verse three from the presence of

[26:36] the Lord he's trying to get away from

[26:39] God he's trying to get away from what

[26:41] God's telling him so the first part of

[26:44] this he tries to flee from the presence

[26:46] of the Lord he thinks so he goes in the

[26:47] opposite

[26:49] direction God said go this way I'm going

[26:51] this way can I tell you this morning if

[26:54] God says go this way and you do go that

[26:56] way uh you're still not fle fleing from

[26:58] the presence of God you still can't get

[27:01] away you still can't people that stayed

[27:04] home from church today instead of com to

[27:06] church today say oh I'm not going to go

[27:07] to church today I'm gonna flee from the

[27:08] presence of God I'm sorry you

[27:11] didn't they those of you that came today

[27:14] I'm glad you came

[27:16] today but also don't flee from the

[27:18] presence of God when it comes to

[27:20] invitation time Bible says to be ye hear

[27:23] not just hearers of the word but doers

[27:25] also so what does the hearer of the word

[27:27] do the hear of the word hears the

[27:28] message and says all right now it's time

[27:29] to go to

[27:30] lunch I'm done a doer of the word hears

[27:33] the message and then responds to the

[27:35] message and continues to do what God

[27:38] says for them to do hearers hear the

[27:41] message and say all right it's time for

[27:42] lunch doers of the word hear the message

[27:44] do what God tells them to do and

[27:46] continue to do what God tells them to do

[27:48] so he said to be ye not just hearers of

[27:50] the word but doers also so don't try to

[27:52] hide from the presence of the Lord in

[27:54] your seat during the invitation time if

[27:55] God says move you need to move

[27:58] God says pray you need to pray need to

[28:01] respond to the moving of the Lord so you

[28:04] want to go in the opposite direction so

[28:05] he takes off to go in the opposite

[28:07] direction to flee from the presence of

[28:08] the Lord verse four but the Lord uh oh

[28:13] verse three was but Jonah now verse four

[28:14] is but the Lord but the Lord sent out a

[28:17] great wind into the sea there was a

[28:20] mighty Tempest in the sea so that the

[28:22] ship was like to be broken so John was

[28:24] like I'm getting out of the presence of

[28:25] God and God says I know what boat you're

[28:27] on'

[28:29] I know the location to send the wind I

[28:32] know much how much watch this I know how

[28:34] much pressure to make the wind

[28:37] blow God knew exactly where he was at

[28:40] knew exactly where he was at so he tries

[28:43] to go in the opposite direction but the

[28:45] Lord sent the

[28:46] wind so the wind comes into the sea and

[28:50] there was a mighty Tempest in the sea so

[28:53] that the ship was like to be

[28:55] broken that's pretty big storm

[29:00] there's there's

[29:01] wind and then there's Oklahoma

[29:05] Wind we know the difference don't we

[29:08] have you ever wondered why there's a big

[29:10] mirror in the front as soon as you come

[29:12] into our church building come around the

[29:14] do you know why there's that big mirror

[29:15] there because every woman in the church

[29:17] goes like

[29:19] this and every man that's married his

[29:22] wife goes hey fix your

[29:24] hair okay that's why it's there cuz

[29:28] Oklahoma Wind

[29:30] exists come on we we know

[29:33] this you got in your vehicle one way you

[29:35] walked across the parking lot and the

[29:37] wind said not

[29:40] anymore but this is a great sea a great

[29:43] Tempest a mighty Tempest in the sea the

[29:45] ship's about to be broken and then the

[29:47] Mariners verse six the Mariners verse

[29:49] five I should say that were

[29:52] afraid these are not firsttime

[29:56] fishermen these are people been on the

[29:58] the sea before they've been in storms

[30:02] before but these men here they're afraid

[30:07] so what happens when they got

[30:09] fearful well then they got religious

[30:11] look at it in our text verse five the

[30:14] Mariners were afraid and cried every man

[30:16] unto his

[30:18] God they got

[30:20] religious all of a sudden these ungodly

[30:23] people were afraid and they're start

[30:25] getting religious they're crying out to

[30:26] every man his God whatever his God was

[30:28] they're crying out to it and it didn't

[30:30] work cuz their little G Gods didn't send

[30:34] the

[30:35] wind the real God did so they're they're

[30:39] crying out to their to their gods they

[30:41] cast forth the Wares that were in the

[30:42] ship and the see to be lightened oh wait

[30:44] but Jonah here's another but Jonah

[30:46] moment but Jonah was gone down into the

[30:48] sides of the ship and he lay and was

[30:50] fast

[30:52] asleep so then they come and they wake

[30:54] up Jonah wake up Jonah

[30:58] and they tell him the ungodly people

[31:00] tell Jonah the ones that are fearful the

[31:03] ones that are afraid the ones that are

[31:04] now acting in a religious way they tell

[31:06] Jonah Jonah AR what mean thou arise call

[31:10] upon thy God if so be that God will

[31:12] think upon us that we perish

[31:15] not ungodly people told Jonah to

[31:19] pray ungodly people in a situation told

[31:22] Jonah to pray Jonah should have already

[31:24] been

[31:26] praying but he didn't well why not well

[31:29] he's trying to flee from the presence of

[31:31] God so why would he want to enter God's

[31:33] presence in

[31:35] prayer so we find he they wake up Jonah

[31:38] and then in verse seven they cast

[31:41] slots it falls upon

[31:44] Jonah the lot falls upon Jonah and now

[31:47] they begin to ask him some questions

[31:48] look if you would at verse number eight

[31:50] we pray thee for whose cause this evil

[31:52] is upon us what is thine occupation

[31:54] whence camest thou what is thy country

[31:57] and of what people art thou now watch

[31:59] this he said unto him them I am an

[32:02] Hebrew

[32:04] and I

[32:07] fear the

[32:10] lord uh then what are you doing in the

[32:15] boat I fear the lord what are you doing

[32:18] in the

[32:19] boat number two this morning Jonah fears

[32:22] God but doesn't

[32:25] obey he fears God

[32:28] but doesn't obey notice what he says

[32:30] about God I fear the lord the god of

[32:32] Heaven which hath made the Sea and the

[32:34] dry land now it's not recorded for us

[32:37] the rest of the

[32:40] conversation say what do you mean

[32:42] preacher well look at the end of verse

[32:43] 10 because he had told them they knew

[32:47] that he fled from the presence of the

[32:48] Lord because he had told them well verse

[32:50] nine doesn't say anything about that so

[32:52] between verse 9 and the end of verse 10

[32:54] there's a longer conversation that

[32:56] happens

[32:58] and Jonah's talking to these fishermen

[33:00] now I don't know if he goes through the

[33:02] whole God called me and I don't want to

[33:04] go to Nineveh because they're so wicked

[33:05] and I don't want to do that and so I've

[33:07] got in the boat and I'm in this boat

[33:09] because I'm trying to flee from the

[33:10] presence of the Lord and so that's why

[33:12] I'm in the boat but we get to the end of

[33:14] verse 10 and they says they knew that he

[33:16] fled from the presence of the Lord

[33:18] because he had told

[33:23] them so somehow in his conversation with

[33:27] him

[33:28] look at the rest of verse 10 then were

[33:29] the men exceedingly

[33:31] afraid and said unto him watch this why

[33:35] hast thou done

[33:38] this the ungodly

[33:42] people heard that Jonah the Hebrew who

[33:46] feared

[33:48] God fled from the presence of the Lord

[33:52] and they said why did you do it

[33:57] why

[33:59] Jonah so evidently he gives a testimony

[34:02] of God he tells them that he fled and

[34:04] then the Mariners ask him the question

[34:07] why hast thou done

[34:10] this and he didn't answer

[34:12] him he didn't tell him

[34:15] why verse 11 he said unto him what shall

[34:19] we do unto thee that the sea may be calm

[34:22] unto us for the sea rod and was Tous do

[34:25] we need to take you back to shore Jonah

[34:29] so preacher I think you're reading in

[34:30] between lines uh excuse me let's look at

[34:32] the next

[34:32] verse verse number 13 nevertheless the

[34:35] men rode hard to bring it to

[34:37] land do we need take you to the shore so

[34:39] you can go back to God

[34:41] Jonah no he says throw me

[34:44] overboard now remember Jonah doesn't

[34:46] know there's a chapter

[34:50] two listen Jonah flees fears God but he

[34:54] doesn't obey the Mariners here they have

[34:58] a change of heart let's read what

[34:59] happens to

[35:01] them the men rode hard to bring it to

[35:03] land verse 13 that they could not for

[35:05] the sea rought and was temptress against

[35:07] him wherefore they Cried unto the what's

[35:11] the next word there is it all

[35:13] capitalized in your Bible means the name

[35:15] Jehovah and said we beseech thee Oh Lord

[35:18] we beseech thee let us not perish for

[35:20] this man's life and lay not Upon Us

[35:21] innocent blood for thou oh Lord Hast

[35:23] done it as it pleased thee um

[35:28] how do unsaved people get to pray to

[35:35] God evidently these men had had a change

[35:37] of

[35:39] heart because they cried out unto the

[35:43] Lord and then they took up Jonah and

[35:45] then verse 16 says these men feared the

[35:47] Lord exceedingly offered a sacrifice on

[35:49] the Lord and made

[35:51] vows evidently something happened in

[35:53] these men's life that the Mariners

[35:55] believed God

[36:01] the

[36:01] Mariners the gentile people on the bo

[36:04] the unsaved people on Bo they believe

[36:06] God here's the amazing thing Jonah in

[36:11] his rebellion and trying to flee from

[36:13] the presence of the Lord God still uses

[36:16] him to bring people to

[36:19] Christ God still used him even in his

[36:21] rebellious State they believed

[36:25] God they feared the Lord

[36:28] they offered a sacrifice on the Lord and

[36:30] made

[36:33] vows how' they know they needed an offer

[36:35] a sacrifice unto the Lord how they need

[36:38] to know they need to make

[36:40] vows somebody told them

[36:45] that they asked the Lord

[36:48] permission I remember we said it just a

[36:50] minute ago Jonah did not know there was

[36:52] a chapter

[36:53] two he didn't know there was Jonah

[36:56] chapter 2 he just wanted to go into the

[37:01] sea now before we read verse 17 I want

[37:04] to go to chapter

[37:06] 2 verse number one then Jonah prayed

[37:09] into the Lord God out of the fish's

[37:12] belly this is what he says I cried by

[37:14] reason of mine

[37:16] what

[37:18] Affliction it is not crying by reason of

[37:21] wanting forgiveness at this time he's

[37:24] crying by reason of mine Affliction look

[37:26] what it says and he heard me out of the

[37:28] belly of Hell cried I and thou heardest

[37:30] my voice watch this let me ask you this

[37:33] question for thou Hast cast me into the

[37:37] what

[37:39] deep H in the midst of the Seas and the

[37:44] floods compassed me about all thy

[37:48] Billows and thy waves passed over

[37:52] me then I said I am cast out of thy

[37:55] sight yet I will look again in toward

[37:58] the Holy Temple watch this verse 5 the

[37:59] waters compassed me about even to the

[38:02] soul the depth closed me round about the

[38:07] weeds were wrapped about my head I went

[38:10] down to the bottom of the mountains the

[38:13] Earth with her bars was about me forever

[38:15] yet th hast thou brought up my life from

[38:17] corruption oh Lord my

[38:23] God he's cast into the what

[38:29] deep he's in the midst of the

[38:32] Seas the waves compassed him about he

[38:37] went into the

[38:42] deep sometimes in our

[38:44] mind I think we read verse 17 and think

[38:47] before Jonah hit the water the whale the

[38:49] fish swallowed him

[38:53] up according to his prayer

[38:58] he landed in the

[39:01] water the

[39:04] waves compassed him

[39:08] about back and

[39:10] forth back and forth he began to sink

[39:14] into the

[39:18] deep he's

[39:20] struggling in the

[39:22] sea he's growing

[39:25] weary in the struggle

[39:29] but notice verse 17 of chapter 1 now the

[39:31] Lord had

[39:32] prepared a great fish to swallow up

[39:37] Jonah and Jonah was in the belly of the

[39:39] fish three days and three

[39:41] nights I don't know how long God let him

[39:44] hang out in the

[39:46] deep but evidently he was in some waves

[39:49] he was in some water and

[39:55] then the fish that God prepared

[39:59] swallows him

[40:00] up the fish that God prepared swallows

[40:04] up

[40:06] Jonah he watch this he

[40:10] sank before he was

[40:13] swallowed while he's in the fish's belly

[40:17] the New Testament references a

[40:20] whale don't get the Disney movie with

[40:26] Pinocchio's father

[40:27] inside the whale fishing off the

[40:30] boat that's not what a whale stomach

[40:34] looks

[40:38] like it has multiple

[40:43] Chambers the first chamber swallow by

[40:46] the way the whales many times swallow

[40:48] their food

[40:50] whole then it goes in the first chamber

[40:53] of the stomach and it's the squeezing

[40:55] chamber

[40:57] pulverizing it squeezes and squeezes and

[41:02] squeezes so Jonah's in the belly of the

[41:06] whale or the belly of the fish that God

[41:09] had prepared and the squeeze is

[41:14] on but he's not in there

[41:18] alone it says that the seaweed wrapped

[41:21] around his

[41:23] head and there's more than likely other

[41:28] things in the sea in there with

[41:33] Jonah and as he get squeezed the

[41:41] fish and as the fish collide with other

[41:45] things the fish break

[41:48] open and the other stuff gets

[41:52] everywhere the aroma of stomach acid and

[41:56] decaying dying fish is

[42:01] there it's

[42:04] not Disney's version of the boat with

[42:07] the grandpa fishing off catching the

[42:09] fish it's not that it's

[42:13] unpleasant it's pressurizing it's

[42:17] putrid it's not

[42:21] enjoyable now according to verse 17 is

[42:24] in the belly of the fish three days and

[42:26] three nights and then verse one of

[42:28] chapter 2 then Jonah prayed so some time

[42:33] goes by when he's in the

[42:37] squeezing when he's in the putrid

[42:42] State

[42:43] before he

[42:46] prays and when he does pray he prays by

[42:49] reason of his

[42:52] Affliction

[42:54] he is in the fish's belly

[42:58] he sank before he was swallowed by the

[43:00] well he's getting pressed he's in the

[43:02] putrid

[43:03] State and you and I know the rest of the

[43:08] story that there's a chapter

[43:10] three Jonah didn't know there was a

[43:13] chapter

[43:15] three look what he says in his prayer in

[43:19] verse number six I went down to the

[43:20] bottoms of the mountain the Earth with

[43:22] her bars was about me forever yet hast

[43:26] thou brought up my life from corruption

[43:28] oh Lord my

[43:30] God when my soul fainted within

[43:36] me

[43:39] now I I turned 42 a couple weeks ago so

[43:42] I'm getting

[43:44] older now when I was talking with our

[43:48] our senior group they're coming up with

[43:49] a clever name for them about our

[43:51] upcoming activity they're figuring out a

[43:53] name they said no you're not that old

[43:55] preacher you're still young with made me

[43:57] feel good then I talked to some

[43:59] teenagers later and they're like yeah

[44:00] you're old preacher so you know I don't

[44:02] know what's going on and I'm just

[44:06] confused but there have been times where

[44:09] I went to come to the office got in the

[44:13] car backed out of the driveway headed

[44:16] toward the office and went to reach for

[44:19] my cell phone and it wasn't

[44:23] there so I had to drive back to the

[44:25] house

[44:27] unlock the door back in the house get my

[44:30] phone because I can't just pull in the

[44:32] driveway and be I'm going to pull in the

[44:33] driveway and call wait I can't do that

[44:36] don't have my

[44:37] phone I had to get out go in get my

[44:42] phone come back

[44:44] out why because I forgot it you ever

[44:48] forgot

[44:49] something talking with one Pastor he was

[44:52] preaching a a Revival meeting in

[44:55] Missouri and he was pastoring in

[44:57] Oklahoma City at the time and he got on

[44:59] got out of church and they

[45:01] had 5 hours to drive 4 and a half

[45:06] hours that's quick turnaround so he took

[45:10] off got on the turnpike him and his wife

[45:13] headed up to Tulsa they just got into

[45:14] Tulsa and he remembered uh I left my

[45:17] briefcase in my

[45:20] office with all my notes for the Revival

[45:23] meeting for this

[45:25] week he said I'm about 90 miles away and

[45:27] I'm thinking I don't have time to turn

[45:29] around and go

[45:31] back so I've go so his wife loving me

[45:34] said to him said I told you you're

[45:36] getting

[45:37] forgetful he said it took until I got to

[45:39] Tulsa till I

[45:41] remembered my brief case that I had

[45:45] left he said a few weeks later they were

[45:47] traveling and his wife said to said what

[45:51] is it dear she I left my wedding ring on

[45:54] the sink at the motel

[45:58] they were already 60 miles away they

[46:01] called the hotel the hotel said we got

[46:03] it it's still here so he turned around

[46:06] drove 60 miles back picked up the ring

[46:10] put it on her finger turned back around

[46:12] and drove the 60 miles back in the

[46:14] direction and then they got to continue

[46:16] on to the rest of their trip why because

[46:18] she forgot it wasn't her

[46:21] fault accidents

[46:24] happened she just forgot it

[46:27] you ever forgot something and then when

[46:30] you forget something hopefully

[46:33] you re what remember I want you to look

[46:38] at that verse we just read verse seven

[46:40] when my soul fainted within me I

[46:45] remembered the

[46:48] Lord that means Jonah forgot

[46:53] him there was a time in Jonah's life

[46:55] where he forgot the Lord

[46:59] he tried to

[47:01] flee from the

[47:04] presence he ends up in the fish's

[47:07] belly and he says he remembered Lord he

[47:10] forgot the Lord but God

[47:13] remembered

[47:16] him if Jonah remembers that means he

[47:21] forgot so he remembers the Lord and my

[47:25] prayer came into the into thine Holy

[47:27] Temple that thy observe lying vanities

[47:30] forsake their own Mercy but I will

[47:33] sacrifice unto thee with the voice of

[47:34] Thanksgiving I will pay that I have

[47:36] vowed salvation is of the

[47:41] Lord Jonah repents and his repentance is

[47:46] coupled with Thanksgiving look at verse

[47:48] nine I will sacrifice un thee with the

[47:50] voice of

[47:52] Thanksgiving I will pay that I have

[47:54] vowed salvation is of the Lord he got

[47:57] right but his getting right came about

[48:00] with Thanksgiving for who God is and

[48:02] what God has done

[48:04] salvation is of the

[48:10] Lord so that's

[48:14] Jonah so let me ask you some things that

[48:18] if we could interview Jonah today some

[48:21] things that we'd ask him some things we

[48:24] might consider of Jonah

[48:28] Jonah could you flee from the presence

[48:31] of the

[48:32] Lord no I couldn't get away from

[48:36] God I couldn't get away from

[48:42] God Jonah did you ever

[48:45] feel that God got away from

[48:52] you no I didn't feel that

[48:54] way but I have felt that I have gotten

[48:57] away from

[49:00] God

[49:02] Jonah you tried to flee from the

[49:04] presence of the Lord how it work out for

[49:06] you not so

[49:10] good but I want to remind you about

[49:13] something in verse

[49:16] 17 chapter one The Lord

[49:19] prepared the

[49:21] fish because he knew where Jonah

[49:24] was and he prepared the fish

[49:28] and the end of chapter 3 the Lord speaks

[49:31] unto that

[49:32] fish and Jonah ends up right where Jonah

[49:38] needed to

[49:41] be this morning Jonah gets picked up

[49:45] he's trying to flee from Tarsus flee

[49:47] from japa he's going to tarus he's

[49:49] trying to get away God wants him over

[49:51] there and he's trying to get away he's

[49:52] trying to get away from God he's doing

[49:55] everything he can when he gets over here

[49:58] he gets to a point that he is not

[50:00] believing God trying to flee from the

[50:02] presence and God

[50:05] says I'm going to sit in the storm right

[50:09] where you're at Jonah now he's getting

[50:10] tossed in the wind and the Sea's rocking

[50:13] back and

[50:15] forth and then the lot falls on

[50:18] Jonah and then Jonah

[50:21] says I fear the lord

[50:27] but why are you in the boat

[50:28] Jonah I'm fleeing from the

[50:32] presence you say you fear

[50:34] God why are you not

[50:38] obeying because I don't want to so Jonah

[50:42] flees from the presence of the Lord he

[50:45] thinks God gets a hold of Jonah he says

[50:47] I fear the lord but he doesn't obey and

[50:50] in the moment of fearing the Lord and

[50:52] not obeying Jonah says this is what's

[50:54] best throw me out

[50:57] cast me out so they toss him out of the

[51:00] boat and he sinks into the

[51:02] water and the waters get deep he begins

[51:06] to sink and he Bobs up and down and goes

[51:08] down and then God sends a fish that

[51:11] picks Jonah up right in the middle picks

[51:14] him up right where he's at that fish

[51:16] picks up Jonah and what does that fish

[51:19] do well that fish while Jonah's getting

[51:21] squeezed on while Jonah's getting putrid

[51:24] stuff all over him that fish is

[51:27] traveling that fish is traveling that

[51:30] fish is

[51:31] traveling all the way to the coast of

[51:36] Nineveh

[51:38] why because the fish that God

[51:42] prepared was not a vehicle of punishment

[51:46] but a vehicle of

[51:48] restoration to bring Jonah right back to

[51:50] where he needed to be and in your life

[51:54] when you've gotten away from the

[51:55] presence of God God when you feel like

[51:58] you're not where God wants you to be and

[52:00] the squeezing starts happen and the

[52:02] difficult situations start going on in

[52:04] your life it is not because God is

[52:07] punishing you it's because he wants to

[52:09] restore you back to fellowship with him

[52:13] the squeezing that happens in our life

[52:16] is uncomfortable it doesn't feel good it

[52:19] doesn't smell good it's not a pleasant

[52:22] experience but God's trying to bring you

[52:24] back to restore you amen don't

[52:29] forget that God is working in the

[52:32] squeezing don't forget that God is

[52:35] working to bring you back to him because

[52:39] he desires to

[52:40] fellowship with

[52:43] you Jonah tried to flee he

[52:46] couldn't Jonah said he feared but he

[52:48] wouldn't

[52:49] obey Jonah ends up in the fish's

[52:54] belly what is God going to have to use

[52:58] to be the vehicle of restoration for

[53:01] you what does God desire to use

[53:05] submission to the still small voice of

[53:10] God that's what he desires to

[53:13] use but sometimes we're

[53:18] stubborn sometimes we won't do what God

[53:22] wants us to do so what does he do he

[53:25] puts us in a vehicle of

[53:27] restoration to get us back to the point

[53:30] that he wants us to

[53:32] be and

[53:34] sometimes that's

[53:36] squeezing sometimes the moment of

[53:41] uncomfortableness it's not fun it's not

[53:45] pleasant

[53:50] listen your pastor's heart this morning

[53:53] some Of You' been walking around like

[53:55] that for too long

[53:58] God's had to put the squeeze on

[54:00] you he's had to put pressure on your

[54:03] life because you wouldn't listen to The

[54:05] Still Small

[54:06] Voice so we had to put some pressure on

[54:09] there's been some squeezing on and

[54:12] you're in the middle of the squeezing

[54:14] process and you've forgotten

[54:20] God be like Jonah and remember the Lord

[54:24] he said when my soul fainted within me I

[54:26] remember remembered the

[54:29] Lord he remembers the

[54:31] Lord he gets right with the

[54:34] Lord he's thankful to the Lord now

[54:38] listen I've preached the chap the next

[54:41] chapter many a Time on the god of Second

[54:47] Chances but Jonah didn't know there was

[54:49] chapter

[54:51] three it is possible that Jonah's

[54:53] getting right because he thinks he's

[54:54] getting ready to meet God

[54:57] he doesn't know that God's got an eject

[54:59] button on that

[55:00] fish he doesn't know that don't don't

[55:05] get right because you want to get

[55:08] ejected out of the

[55:10] situation get right because you want to

[55:12] get right with

[55:14] God don't say well if I get right he'll

[55:17] eject me out no he may leave you in the

[55:18] squeez in a little

[55:21] longer because he's not done working yet

[55:27] so if you're in a squeeze situation and

[55:29] you're not enjoying it call out to God

[55:32] pray evidently it appears according to

[55:35] our text three days three nights then he

[55:39] prayed then don't wait for three days of

[55:43] the squeezing and uncomfortableness and

[55:46] three days of the smell and the seaweed

[55:50] wrapped about your head before you say

[55:52] yes

[55:53] Lord it would have been far better for

[55:57] Jonah when the word of the Lord came un

[55:59] Jonah the son of animat saying arise go

[56:01] to end of that great city cry against it

[56:03] for its wickedness and he said yes

[56:06] Lord there had have been no storm there'

[56:09] have been no waves there' have been no

[56:11] wind there' have been no

[56:15] whale he' to end up in chapter 3 in

[56:18] Nineveh preaching and still had the same

[56:21] results that God wanted to do in n

[56:27] don't don't

[56:29] forget when God's Got You In The Squeeze

[56:32] it's a vehicle of

[56:34] restoration God is working on

[56:37] you to Will and to do of his good

[56:43] pleasure he is working on you to make

[56:47] you what you need to

[56:50] be let God do his work

[56:57] my friend you can't flee from the

[57:01] presence you can't my friend you cannot

[57:04] fear God say you fear God and choose not

[57:07] to

[57:09] obey because what that means is you

[57:11] really don't fear God because if you

[57:14] feared God you'd obey God fear means

[57:17] having a reverence or respect and all of

[57:20] if you're an awe of God you'd obey

[57:24] God Jonah says

[57:26] he fears the Lord but he doesn't he

[57:29] doesn't obey Jonah ends up in the fish's

[57:32] belly if you try to get away from

[57:35] God if you say that you fear God and you

[57:37] don't obey don't be surprised if he

[57:38] sends a great fish to squeeze

[57:42] you to help you to remember

[57:46] him to help you to come back to him to

[57:50] help you thank God for who he is in your

[57:53] life and what he's doing as a pastor my

[57:57] wife and I see it all the time

[58:01] people that are in the

[58:06] squeeze you can see it in their

[58:11] life and you want to help

[58:13] them understand what God's doing in the

[58:19] squeeze but sometimes people are

[58:24] stubborn they don't want to let God do

[58:26] what God wants to do they

[58:29] resist so he keeps them in the squeeze a

[58:31] little

[58:33] longer some of you have been living life

[58:35] in the

[58:37] squeeze let go and remember God and

[58:42] return back to him this all started

[58:46] because Jonah didn't want to be in the

[58:48] presence of the

[58:51] Lord but in other portions of scripture

[58:53] Jonah had prophesied before

[58:56] God had used Jonah

[58:58] previously but

[59:00] now his own

[59:03] feelings overtook God's calling on his

[59:06] life if we're not careful our own

[59:09] feelings will overtake God's calling on

[59:12] our

[59:13] lives what he wants us to do we'll find

[59:16] ourselves in the squeeze because God

[59:18] wants to restore and help you remember

[59:22] him would you stand together with your

[59:24] heads bowed and eyes closed

[59:30] and

[59:33] squeeze don't just be a hearer of the

[59:36] word but be a doer

[59:39] also don't just be a hearer of the word

[59:43] we be a doer also your head's bowed and

[59:46] your eyes closed say Pastor would you

[59:47] pray for me I feel like I'm in the

[59:50] squeeze I feel like I'm in the squeeze

[59:52] right now in my life Pastor would you

[59:54] please pray for me that you just just

[59:56] slip your hand up and put it down I see

[59:57] those hands thank you thank you thank

[60:00] you thank you hands going up across the

[60:03] room would you respond don't just don't

[60:06] just say I feel

[60:08] it cry out to the Lord Jonah was in the

[60:12] belly The Squeeze came he cried out to

[60:14] the Lord You're Here you've gotten away

[60:17] from the presence you haven't stayed

[60:19] near you haven't loved Jesus like you

[60:21] ought to love him you're not walking

[60:22] with him like you ought to you're not

[60:23] depending on him like you should come

[60:26] come

[60:27] back the squeeze is the vehicle ARR come

[60:31] back maybe you've just forgotten how

[60:34] good God

[60:35] is and today you need to remember and

[60:39] you need to remind the Lord say well God
