[0:36] Good evening. New evidence tonight that

[0:39] the fatal explosion aboard the

[0:40] battleship Iowa last year may have been

[0:42] an accident, not sabotage. This comes

[0:45] one day after the Navy reopened the Iowa

[0:47] investigation and ordered all US

[0:49] battleships not to fire their big guns

[0:52] until further notice. Until yesterday,

[1:12] test on gunpowder that pointed toward a

[1:15] tragic accident. The testimony today

[1:18] will essentially eviscerate the Navy's

[1:20] conclusion that the explosion on the USS

[1:22] Iowa was a result of a wrongful

[1:24] intentional act.

[1:26] >> The testimony came from experts brought

[1:28] in by Congress from the Energy

[1:29] Department's Sandia weapons laboratory.

[1:32] The Navy investigation had claimed

[1:34] debris found in the Iowa's gun was

[1:36] evidence someone had slipped in a

[1:38] detonator. Admirals pointed to a

[1:40] gunner's mate, Clayton Hartwick, killed

[1:42] in the blast. We could neither prove nor

[1:45] disprove the presence of a chemical

[1:47] igniter proposed
