[0:03] A day of chaos in Washington as the

[0:05] budget stalemate drags on for another

[0:08] day.

[0:09] And Florida Republicans vote in the

[0:11] straw poll that may help narrow the

[0:13] presidential field.

[0:16] This is the CBS Evening News.

[0:22] And this is Bob Schieffer reporting.

[0:24] Good evening. Republican leaders revived

[0:30] government operating again. Republican

[0:32] leader Bob Dole sent word to the White

[0:34] House just before we went on the air at

[0:36] about 6:30 Eastern time saying he is now

[1:09] >> Now is the time for serious

[1:10] negotiations, and I hope we can resolve

[1:13] the

[1:14] the current um and

[1:16] partial government shutdown.

[1:18] >> On the floor of the House, tempers

[1:19] flared as Republicans blamed the

[1:21] president for wavering on his own

[1:23] timetable for balancing the budget.

[1:25] >> We heard 9 years and 8 years.

[1:27] Well, my colleagues were here tonight

[1:30] >> the little bugger down.

[1:32] And that's the purpose of this.

[1:36] >> The budget

[1:37] >> out regular
