[0:07] The still unfolding tragedy in western
[0:09] India after the worst earthquake in 50
[0:12] years and the race to reach victims
[0:14] buried in debris. There's every hope
[0:17] that there are several people alive
[0:19] under the rubble. Still claims of
[0:21] progress but no deal as the Middle East
[0:23] peace talks wrap up. The on-again
[0:27] off-again strike against America's
[0:29] largest rail carrier and what the man
[0:32] who has taken on nine US presidents has
[0:35] to say about number 10. Castro really
[0:38] doesn't expect there to be any
[0:39] improvement in US Cuban relations as
[0:41] long as George Bush is president.
[0:46] From NBC News World Headquarters in New
[0:49] York, this is NBC Nightly News reported
[0:53] by John Seanthaler. Good evening
[0:55] everyone. The people of India are still
[0:57] reeling tonight from the most powerful
[0:59] earthquake in that country in half a
[1:01] century. The 7.9 magnitude quake
[1:04] flattened buildings, destroyed towns,
[1:06] and buried thousands of people on
[1:08] Friday. While the frantic search for
[1:10] survivors goes on, officials now say the
[1:12] death toll could reach 15,000. The
[1:15] hardest hit area is about 350 miles
[1:18] northwest of Bombay near the India
[1:20] Pakistan border. NBC's Kiko Itasa has
[1:24] the story.
[1:26] This is ground zero, the epicenter of
[1:29] the quake. Entire villages leveled. The
[1:32] city of Boug, just 15 miles from the
[1:34] epicenter, is devastated. More than
[1:36] 30,000 buildings have collapsed already
[1:39] or appear close to toppling. Rescue
[1:42] workers still have not given up trying
[1:43] to find survivors. 30 hours after the
[1:46] quake hit, this woman was rescued.
[1:48] Moments later, her mother was saved
