[0:01] I ask you to share with me today the
[0:05] majesty of this
[0:07] moment. In the orderly transfer of
[0:10] power, we celebrate the unity that keeps
[0:13] us
[0:14] free. Each moment in history is a
[0:17] fleeting time, precious and unique. But
[0:21] some stand out as moments of beginning
[0:24] in which courses are set that
[0:26] shape decades or centuries.
[0:30] And we are back at 9:00 Eastern time on
[0:32] this Saturday morning. It's the 20th day
[0:34] of January in the year 2001. I'm Matt
[0:37] Lowau here in Washington DC along with
[0:39] Katie Kirk. This is a special edition of
[0:40] Today on a Saturday morning and that was
[0:42] a portion of President Richard Nixon's
[0:44] first inaugural address delivered in
[0:46] 1969, 32 years ago today. President
[0:49] Nixonly certainly set the course for
[0:51] many of the events that would follow in
[0:53] the decades that followed him, but I
[0:55] don't think he quite had an idea of
[0:56] exactly how he would set that course.
[0:58] I'm sure he could never have anticipated
[1:00] that day back in 1969 what he would be
[1:02] saying to the country 5 years later when
[1:05] he resigned from the presidency. No
[1:06] question. Quite a turnaround. Anyway, it
[1:08] is just three hours now until George W.
[1:10] Bush raises his right hand to take the
[1:12] oath of office and becomes the 43rd
[1:14] president of the United States. Coming
[1:16] up in this half hour, NBC's Tim Russard
[1:18] weighs in with his thoughts on this
[1:20] historic day and gives us his take on
[1:21] that deal President Clinton cut with the
[1:23] independent council to avoid an
[1:25] indictment. Matt will also have more of
[1:27] my interview with Laura Bush. This
[1:29] morning, she shares some personal
[1:30] thoughts
