[0:00] We'll be right back. Andrew, we're going
[0:01] to rejoin WCIX, the CBS station in
[0:04] Miami.
[0:04] Most of the lights of Brickell Ave
[0:06] apartments are out and the lawn
[0:08] furniture hasn't decided to go for a
[0:10] swim. It's just being stored in the pool
[0:12] in hopes it won't blow away. Terraces
[0:15] are empty. There's no traffic and at
[0:17] first glance you'd think Brickell Ave is
[0:19] deserted.
[0:21] But there are some folks who are going
[0:22] against the best advice and have decided
[0:25] to ride out Andrew. I feel like this is
[0:27] as safe as anywhere else cuz we've got a
[0:30] stairwell out here that's got these
[0:32] thick concrete posts at all four
[0:34] corners, concrete block
[0:37] and I thought I was
[0:39] safer than than being in some house
[0:41] inland where you don't know if a pine
[0:43] tree's going to come crashing through
[0:45] your window or not.
[0:46] Pat Murphy, his girlfriend and two cats
[0:48] have the hurricane shutters in place and
[0:51] everything off the terrace. Oscar
[0:53] Corbella has also decided to ride out
[0:55] Andrew. His kitchen is doubling as a
[0:57] bedroom tonight and Oscar is glued to
[1:00] his TV. Looks like he's getting the best
[1:02] information available. So why is he
[1:04] staying in an evacuation zone? I've been
[1:06] told that the the
[1:07] building is very safe. I mean there is
[1:10] no
[1:11] no problem to to stay here. So why not?
[1:13] There are a little more than a hundred
[1:15] families living in this building on
[1:17] Brickell and about 11 of them have
[1:19] decided to spend the night right here
[1:22] Andrew or no Andrew. But if things get
[1:24] really rough, they may end up spending
[1:26] the night right here in the stairwell.
[1:28] You see that spot right down
