[0:10] This is the CBS Evening News with Katie
[0:13] Curr reporting tonight from Bedford, New
[0:15] Hampshire.
[0:17] >> And this is a special Western edition.
[0:19] Good evening everyone. The polls are
[0:21] closed in this first presidential
[0:22] primary of campaign 08 and Republican
[0:25] John McCain has earned the title of the
[0:28] comeback kid. CBS News estimates he has
[0:31] come from way behind to win the
[0:33] Republican primary, beating Mitt Romney
[0:36] from nextdoor Massachusetts. A big
[0:38] disappointment for him. To the Democrats
[0:40] now, Barack Obama, who won Iowa last
[0:43] week, is now battling with Hillary
[0:45] Clinton for first place here in New
[0:47] Hampshire. Democratic voters, by the
[0:49] way, told us they see Clinton as more
[0:52] qualified to be commander-in-chief.
[0:55] Republican voters give the nod on that
[0:57] to war hero John McCain. We have a team
[0:59] of CBS News correspondents deployed all
[1:01] around New Hampshire tonight to cover
[1:03] the major presidential candidates. And
[1:05] we'll begin with Kelly Koba who is
[1:08] covering the McCain Straight Talk
[1:09] Express, which is back on track tonight.
[1:12] Kelly,
[1:13] >> back on track and very happy tonight,
[1:16] Katie. Uh John McCain worked very hard
[1:19] for this victory and he got to celebrate
[1:21] it at least for a little while. came out
[1:23] a few moments ago to deafening cheers to
[1:27] for to thank all of his supporters uh
[1:30] volunteers as well. This is a great
[1:32] moment for a candidate uh who faced an
[1:35] uphill battle and his campaign basically
[1:37] left for dead a few months ago. He held
[1:39] more than 100 town hall meetings here
[1:42] answering voters questions, tough
[1:44] questions about his support
