[0:05] >> Ally, thank you very much. Uh we'll get
[0:07] back to you. It's 4 pm here in
[0:09] Washington and you're in the situation
[0:10] room where news and information from
[0:12] around the world arrive at one place
[0:14] simultaneously. Happening now, the first
[0:17] waves of Hurricane Rita's assault on the

[0:23] Central and Rita strike zone on the
[0:25] brink of what one official calls a

[0:46] explosion and lives lost. This hour, the
[0:50] hurricane exodus and what went horribly
[0:53] wrong. I'm Will Blitzer. You're in the
[0:55] situation room.

[1:25] fierce and it's very dangerous. The
[1:28] hurricane now less than 200 miles
[1:30] southeast of Galveastston, Texas. To the
[1:33] east in New Orleans, a potentially
[1:35] devastating repeat of the Katrina
[1:37] flooding. Water spilled through a
[1:39] patched levy, pouring water into the
[1:42] ninth ward, one of the city's lowest
[1:44] lying neighborhoods. It's a development
[1:46] officials feared, but it happened
[1:48] earlier than expected. The mayor,
