[0:05] Tonight on Night Line, the great gas

[0:07] hike. The cost of crude is still going

[0:09] down, but the price at the pump is

[0:11] soaring, 30 cents in less than 2 months.

[0:14] So, what's going on? Night Line

[0:16] investigates and tells you where to find

[0:18] the best deals. The last seconds, new

[0:21] details on the final terrifying 26

[0:24] seconds of flight 3407. How could a

[0:26] plane just fall out of the sky so fast?

[0:29] and new pictures from the crash site as

[0:31] investigators sift for evidence. Plus,

[0:34] Barbie World, aerobics instructor,

[0:36] astronaut, even American idol. It's been

[0:39] a busy five decades for the world's most

[0:41] famous doll.

[0:42] >> I loathed her from the very first second

[0:44] I ever saw her.

[0:45] >> Why everyone isn't celebrating as Barbie

[0:49] turns 50.

[0:51] From the global resources of ABC News

[0:54] with Terry Moran, Martin Basher, and

[0:56] Cynthia Mcbaden in New York City. This

[0:59] is Night Line, February 16th, 2009.

[1:04] >> Good evening. I'm Terry Moran. Remember?

[1:06] Remember those soaring gas prices? It

[1:09] was a midsummer nightmare. More than

[1:11] four bucks a gallon. Sticker shock that

[1:13] forced many Americans off the road. Then

[1:16] crude oil prices collapsed as the

[1:18] recession came and prices at the pump

[1:20] followed. They settled at the year's

[1:22] end, much closer to a $160 a gallon. But

[1:24] now, well, if you drive, you know, don't

[1:27] you? Gas costs more even as oil prices

[1:31] continue to sink. How can that be?

[1:34] That's an excellent question and Brian

[1:36] Rooney went looking for an answer.

[1:39] Hey, wait a minute here. The economy is

[1:41] in a slump. Everybody is driving less

[1:43] and the price of a barrel of oil is

[1:45] falling through the floor.

[1:48] But in lots of places, the price of

[1:50] gasoline is doing what you only wish

[1:52] your 401k would do. In California, I'll

[1:56] be back. The average price has jumped

[1:58] from $1.74 in mid December to $2.30

[2:02] today.

[2:03] >> You hear the news, the barrel price is

[2:04] going down.

[2:05] >> All right, the barrel is going down. The

[2:08] economy is bad. Someone's making a

[2:10] profit. And I don't understand. I don't

[2:12] understand. I'm trying to make sense to

[2:14] wrap my mind around it.

[2:16] >> Wrap your mind around it. That's what

[2:18] the analysts are supposed to do.

[2:20] >> We're seeing prices flirt with $2 a

[2:22] gallon. We probably see 40% of the

[2:24] country at $2 or higher. highest prices

[2:27] on the West Coast. So, it's not the

[2:29] apocalypse, but we're much higher,

[2:31] perhaps by 35 or 40 cents than we ended

[2:34] 2008.

[2:36] But wait, this is

[2:40] Night Line's search for cheap gas,

[2:44] and it's still out there in Wyoming.

[2:48] Yeeha!

[2:48] >> The average is $1.72,

[2:51] and three gas stations in Douglas are

[2:53] selling at $139.

[2:55] Take a trip to Bountifer. That's in Utah

[2:59] where four gas stations are selling at a

[3:01] $157 a gallon. Gas is always cheaper in

[3:04] New Jersey.

[3:06] >> Bada bing.

[3:07] >> An average $180 right now. I expect a

[3:10] 180 179, so I'm a little thrilled, but

[3:12] I'm worried about the trend, man.

[3:14] Something's wrong. Across the river in

[3:16] New York,

[3:17] >> taxi,

[3:18] >> the average price is over 30 cents more

[3:20] at $211, up from $182 at the beginning

[3:24] of the year. The trend is upward, partly

[3:28] the result of reduced supply. The price

[3:30] of oil may be down, but refineries are

[3:32] not making as much gasoline as they were

[3:34] a few months ago.

[3:35] >> It really has to do mostly with

[3:38] refineries cutting back. I mean, they do

[3:40] have maintenance in the first quarter of

[3:41] every year. nothing really special this

[3:43] year, but in addition to the maintenance

[3:45] they're performing, they're taking some

[3:47] discretionary uh production down,

[3:50] frankly, because they didn't make any

[3:52] money on gasoline in the last 90 days of

[3:54] of 2008. So, they're trying to tweak

[3:57] production to match demand. What seems

[3:59] to be the single highest price in the

[4:01] country, $39,

[4:04] that's exceptional, is in Shosonyi,

[4:06] California. Most people are just getting

[4:08] reacquainted with the number two. Where

[4:10] do you think it's going? Well, I think

[4:12] it's going probably back around 250.

[4:16] >> Yeah.

[4:17] >> You know, that's not that's not the best

[4:19] news probably, but reality.

[4:21] >> Yeah.

[4:22] >> If it's not $3, I'm okay with it.

[4:25] >> Once it hits three, I'm I'm mighty upset

[4:27] again.

[4:28] >> Things are pretty good in Illinois.

[4:30] >> What's up, Bears?

[4:31] >> Where the average price isn't even $2,

[4:33] but there are four gas stations in

[4:35] Ottawa selling at just $1.78 and in

[4:38] downtown Chicago, $2.29. Not too bad.

[4:41] >> As long as it stays in the in the twos

[4:43] right now, I'm I probably think about it

[4:46] very little. You know, when it makes

[4:47] that jump up to three or up to four,

[4:49] that's when it, you know, it's really

[4:50] notice. I really notice it.

[4:52] >> But people are suspicious. They tend to

[4:55] think that when they pump gas, somebody

[4:58] somewhere is pumping their bank account.

[5:01] Chicago,

[5:01] >> if I had to guess that they're that

[5:03] they're probably looking for first

[5:04] quarter revenue and they're uh probably

[5:08] to looking at their long-term numbers

[5:10] for the next month and they need to pump

[5:12] some uh some money into their uh coffers

[5:15] before the end of uh March

[5:18] >> in New Jersey where they know a bad odor

[5:20] when they smell it.

[5:21] >> As a consumer, you don't know if it's

[5:23] traders on Wall Street that are driving

[5:25] up the price. Is it the oil refineries

[5:27] shutting down refineries and

[5:28] manipulating supply? Something smells

[5:31] fishy.

[5:32] >> He should be glad he doesn't live in

[5:33] Alaska.

[5:34] >> You betcha.

[5:35] >> Where they drill their own oil. But the

[5:37] average price of gas is $2.52,

[5:40] the highest in the country. Out there at

[5:42] the pumps, people are just trying to

[5:44] deal with prices that change like the

[5:46] weather in New England.

[5:47] >> Okay. It was what 209 like a month ago

[5:50] or two? It was 167 then went up to 209

[5:53] and then 213 and now it's 230 and now

[5:56] they're going to add tax on top of our

[5:58] tax. We're going to end up paying $3 a

[6:00] gallon within a month.

[6:02] >> Well, really, probably not.

[6:04] >> The $2 number is imminent, and that's

[6:06] got some consequences, but this is not

[6:08] the year of the the next march toward

[6:11] four and $5 a gallon gasoline,

[6:13] >> but gasoline prices do tend to defy the

[6:16] laws of physics. What goes down always

[6:19] goes back up. This is Brian Rooney for

[6:21] Nightly in Los Angeles,

[6:24] >> and we will see just how high it climbs

[6:27] there. Thanks to Brian Rooney for that.

[6:28] When we come back, we'll have new

[6:30] details on the 26 seconds of terror that

[6:34] ended flight 3407. How could a plane

[6:36] just fall out of the sky?

[6:41] >> ABC News Night Line brought to you by

[6:43] Geico.

[6:49] >> Uh, you wanted to see me, sir? Oh,

[6:51] >> come on in. I had some other things you

[6:53] could tell people about Geico. Great

[6:54] claim service and a 97% customer

[6:57] satisfaction rate. show people really

[6:58] trust us.

[6:59] >> Yeah, right. Yeah, that makes sense.

[7:01] >> Trust is key when talking about Geico.

[7:03] You got to feel it. Why don't you and I

[7:06] practice that with a little exercise

[7:07] where I fall backwards and you catch me?

[7:09] >> Uh, no, sir. I I honestly I don't think

[7:12] uh

[7:12] >> No, no, we can do this.

[7:14] >> Oh dear.

[7:15] >> Geico, 15 minutes could save you 15% or

[7:17] more on car insurance.

[7:19] >> Jillian, you had occasional

[7:21] irregularities. I know that you were

[7:23] just living with that was my normal. I

[7:25] thought that was normal. What changed? I

[7:27] saw Activia in my mom's fridge. Tried it

[7:28] for a couple weeks and it's liberating.

[7:34] >> Everybody's talking about the economic

[7:35] tsunami. What does that mean to a

[7:37] surfing CEO?

[7:39] >> Um tsunami in surfing is sort of a

[7:42] thrilling prospect, but the tsunami in

[7:44] business is uh kind of terrifying and

[7:47] you have to watch the um management of

[7:49] your assets very carefully. You know,

[7:51] you have to do things at the speed of

[7:52] light these days to stay um ahead of the

[7:54] wolf pack,

[7:55] >> right? And without technology, we would

[7:57] be nowhere. It helps you to uh still rip

[8:00] it up.

[8:04] >> Somewhat reluctant to try lower sodium

[8:07] soup. Try Campbell's Healthy Request

[8:09] Soups.

[8:10] >> All made with lower sodium natural sea

[8:12] salt.

[8:14] >> What's the taste?

[8:15] >> Taste. I like the taste of taste.

[8:19] >> This is more than my easy button. It's

[8:21] my save so much on ink. We could stop

[8:22] shaking the cartridges button.

[8:27] It's my save so much we can bring back

[8:29] the morning donuts button.

[8:32] Hooray. It's my save so much my boss

[8:35] will be eternally grateful button.

[8:37] >> Good job, Helen. Karen,

[8:39] >> it's Kathy.

[8:42] >> Now recycle any brand of Inkor toner and

[8:44] get $3 back in Staples rewards. Staples.

[8:47] That was easy. Tuesday, a 50year-old

[8:50] woman in deep romance with a guy half

[8:52] her age

[8:53] >> and older than his mother. So, what

[8:55] would you do if you discovered he was

[8:56] secretly rushing her into marriage and

[8:58] she didn't even know

[9:00] >> what?

[9:00] >> So, what would you do?

[9:02] >> Tuesday at 10 on ABC. In 6 days, the

[9:05] biggest movie event of the year, the

[9:06] Oscars, live Sunday on ABC.

[9:09] >> At Chrysler and Jeep, we're working to

[9:11] earn your trust in your business by

[9:13] delivering the best quality and

[9:14] reliability in our history. And now,

[9:16] we're announcing employee pricing plus

[9:18] on all our vehicles. You get our

[9:20] employee price, plus a $1,500 cash

[9:23] allowance, which all adds up to over

[9:24] $4,700 in savings on a new Jeep Grand

[9:27] Cherokee. Plus, well-qualified buyers

[9:29] get 0% financing. Now, getting the

[9:32] vehicle you want has never been easier.

[9:33] We don't want to be just any car

[9:35] company. We want to be your car company.

[9:37] See your Chrysler Jeep dealers today.

[9:48] And now, the aftermath of flight 3407.

[9:52] Investigators have recovered key parts

[9:54] of the plane amid the wreckage,

[9:56] including the engines, propeller blades,

[9:58] and most of the plane's deicing

[10:00] equipment. The hope is some of this

[10:02] evidence will shed light on the plane's

[10:04] sudden and violent crash, even as new

[10:06] questions surface about exactly what

[10:09] went wrong. Vicky Mabry now with the

[10:11] latest on the investigation.

[10:15] On Thursday night, this quiet

[10:17] neighborhood in Clarence Center, New

[10:18] York, was an inferno.

[10:21] Today, it is a scene of recovery. For

[10:24] the first time, cameras were allowed

[10:26] into the crash site to see the work of

[10:28] carefully sifting and removing the

[10:30] wreckage of the plane and the house and

[10:33] the 50 victims, 49 on board and the

[10:36] homeowner on the ground. Investigators

[10:38] said this afternoon they've recovered

[10:40] half the plane so far and are learning

[10:42] piece by piece, moment by moment, a bit

[10:45] more about the last minutes of flight

[10:47] 3407. They know that by the time the

[10:50] plane was getting ready to land at

[10:52] around 10:20 p.m., it had experienced

[10:54] significant icing. Other pilots in the

[10:57] area reported icy weather to air traffic

[10:59] controllers at Buffalo Airport. The

[11:02] black boxes they've recovered indicate

[11:04] the pilots on the doomed flight had

[11:06] activated their deicing system.

[11:08] >> They did know that they had forecast

[11:10] icing conditions ahead because they were

[11:12] told that before they ever left uh

[11:14] Newark. So I can only say that he took

[11:18] the conservative approach and turned

[11:19] them on well in advance of getting into

[11:21] the ice.

[11:22] >> It was a routine flight and then 26

[11:25] seconds of terror. The plane's nose

[11:28] pitched up and down, then rolled from

[11:30] left to far right, turning it nearly

[11:33] upside down.

[11:35] Finally, it belly flopped rather than

[11:38] nose dived as originally thought into

[11:40] the house and landed facing northeast,

[11:43] the opposite direction from where it was

[11:45] headed.

[11:46] >> We have a sequence of events here that's

[11:47] going to take a long time to unravel,

[11:49] but we've got all the tools. We've got

[11:51] the flight data recorder, we've got the

[11:53] cockpit voice recorder, and eventually

[11:54] the NTSP will put it all together. The

[11:56] crew had the plane on autopilot, typical

[11:59] for a flight such as theirs, unless

[12:01] there's severe icing.

[12:03] >> The prohibition is if you're in severe

[12:05] ice, you don't use it. And the

[12:07] recommendation has been if you're in

[12:09] moderate ice or less, you probably

[12:10] shouldn't use it. I think we're probably

[12:12] going to have to revisit that and say

[12:14] absolutely no autopilot utilization in

[12:16] certain conditions.

[12:18] >> They know the pilot had 110 hours flying

[12:20] this particular type of plane. The

[12:23] co-pilot had nearly 500 hours. We'll be

[12:26] looking at uh their training. We'll look

[12:28] at their training records, how they did

[12:30] in training. We will look at the uh how

[12:32] many times they had flown in the last

[12:34] seven days. We will look at their rest

[12:36] that they got.

[12:37] >> It's tempting to say that a pilot with

[12:39] only 110 hours in type with in this type

[12:41] of aircraft could have potentially

[12:44] overreacted and pulling on the airplane,

[12:46] not realizing the airplane was trying to

[12:48] push itself over. But in fact, any pilot

[12:51] with regardless of the amount of time in

[12:52] an airplane never sees this except in a

[12:55] training situation. And and it's so

[12:57] startling to have the airplane suddenly

[12:58] push over that an overreaction is quite

[13:01] frankly understandable.

[13:02] >> But all of this still doesn't explain

[13:04] exactly what happened to flight 3407,

[13:08] why it went down when other planes in

[13:10] the area that night got in safely.

[13:12] >> Another Kan Airline flight from Newark

[13:16] to Buffalo departed. It was 27 minutes

[13:19] after and it came in, experienced the

[13:21] same icing conditions, 4,000 ft to 2500

[13:25] ft, moderate icing. Uh, and it made it

[13:28] to destination in Buffalo.

[13:30] >> Two airplanes flying 2 miles apart can

[13:32] fly into two different clouds with

[13:34] entirely different results. One gets

[13:35] light icing, the other gets severe

[13:37] icing. And this is Buffalo, New York

[13:39] with lake effect and all other sorts of

[13:41] uh of weather anomalies that that affect

[13:44] the area. The NTSB took a break for a

[13:47] brief time today. The work stopped and

[13:50] streets around the crash site were

[13:52] closed off as grieving family members

[13:54] were brought by bus to pay their

[13:56] respects at the site.

[13:58] >> I would like to just say that that was a

[13:59] private moment that we offered them. Um,

[14:02] we stood down our crews and uh walked

[14:06] and got out of the the site and allowed

[14:09] them an opportunity to go in there and

[14:11] pay their respects and uh that's it.

[14:14] That's all I'd like to say about that

[14:15] because that was a private time for them

[14:17] and uh I won't describe it in any other

[14:19] way.

[14:19] >> The NTSB's chief investigator said today

[14:22] this was his last press conference from

[14:24] Buffalo. He returns to Washington

[14:26] tomorrow. They're racing the clock to

[14:29] wrap up their work here by Wednesday

[14:31] when another winter storm heads this

[14:33] way.

[14:34] >> Wednesday is uh our goal. However, if it

[14:37] takes longer, it takes longer. Still,

[14:40] they say there's no reason for travelers

[14:42] to shun turborops.

[14:44] >> There is absolutely no reason not to

[14:45] feel safe flying these turbo props. As a

[14:47] matter of fact, I'm going to climb on

[14:48] the same model of aircraft tonight and I

[14:50] have no qualms about it because I know

[14:52] how robust they are and how good they

[14:54] are.

[14:54] >> This is Vicky Mabry for Night Line in

[14:56] New York.

[14:58] >> Piecing together a tragedy. Our thanks

[15:00] to Vicky Mabry. Our condolences to the

[15:02] families and friends of the victims.

[19:05] Night Line continues from New York City

[19:08] with Terry Moran.

[19:11] That long hair, that bizarrely shaped

[19:14] figure, and a name you just can't

[19:16] forget. By now, generations of little

[19:18] girls have called Barbie their friend.

[19:22] Others have disdained the doll. Over the

[19:24] decades, Barbie changed. New roles, new

[19:26] looks, often echoing real life changes

[19:29] in the world around her and sometimes

[19:30] courting controversy. This year, Barbie

[19:33] turns 50. And for David Wright, that's a

[19:36] sign of the time.

[19:42] This weekend, the queen of the New York

[19:44] fashion scene was a blonde icon who's

[19:46] about to turn 50. Barbie had her first

[19:50] ever show at New York Fashion Week.

[19:55] A starstudded extravaganza produced by

[19:58] fashion impressario Roger Padilio. Go.

[20:03] >> Each outfit has so many different

[20:05] components. We're working with top hair

[20:08] and makeup artists, great music. So,

[20:10] it's going to be a real traditional

[20:12] fashion show except it's Barbie.

[20:15] >> Barbie, you're beautiful.

[20:19] Her

[20:21] looks may have changed, but she

[20:23] certainly kept her figure.

[20:28] >> Her clothes and figure looks so neat.

[20:30] >> She may be 50, but played out Barbie is

[20:33] not.

[20:37] >> Of course, she's kept busy over the

[20:38] years. 108 careers and counting.

[20:42] >> Here's gold medal Barbie.

[20:43] >> She's been an Olympic athlete many times

[20:45] over. Go for the

[20:47] >> and a teacher.

[20:50] >> Can teacher Barbie says

[20:52] >> try it again.

[20:54] >> She's been an astronaut

[20:56] >> and a rock star. Pop icons Beyonce and

[21:00] Shakira. She's won American Idol, too.

[21:04] >> She's even run for president twice.

[21:07] >> Congratulations.

[21:09] >> Some would argue she also ran for vice

[21:11] president in 2008. And now Barbie is

[21:15] chancellor of Germany. Go figure.

[21:18] Always, even at her most professional.

[21:24] >> Let's just say Barbie indulged her

[21:26] feminine side.

[21:27] >> She's into changing fasten.

[21:31] >> Barbie, I loathed her from the very

[21:33] first second I ever saw her.

[21:35] >> Barbie does have her enemies.

[21:39] Among them, supermodel Lauren Hutton,

[21:41] who started modeling about a decade

[21:43] after Barbie did.

[21:45] >> I think it's a man's fantasy fed to

[21:48] little girls.

[21:49] >> What do you mean a man's fantasy fed to

[21:51] little girls?

[21:51] >> I mean, I come from a business of small,

[21:54] long bones. No one, not even the great

[21:56] Jazelle Bunen, has bones like that.

[21:59] >> Some insist Barbie was originally

[22:01] inspired by a German sex doll from the

[22:04] 1950s, a prostitute named Lily. But in

[22:07] America, she became the icon of

[22:09] wholesome beauty.

[22:10] >> Wow, she's real like me.

[22:12] >> A regular Marsha Brady.

[22:14] >> Suddenly, she's a new living Barbie.

[22:17] >> This weekend, Barbie's fashion show

[22:19] featured outfits from every era.

[22:21] >> Everyone created an outfit that is

[22:24] inspired by Barbie. 50 different

[22:26] designers. Ver Wang, Michael Kors, Tommy

[22:30] Hilfiger did this. That's the Don

[22:32] Fersenberg Barbie doll. For shoes, we

[22:35] got Christian Lubboutan. Barbie is

[22:38] definitely the first supermodel. If you

[22:40] look at the models that were used back

[22:42] in the 1950s, all models were 52. They

[22:45] were very, very curvy and voluuptuous.

[22:48] In 1959, this 11 1/2 in doll changed

[22:52] everything.

[22:52] >> All of a sudden, models were, you know,

[22:55] 5'11, 6 feet. Uh they had very, very

[22:58] long legs. Um, you know, that that whole

[23:01] uh Claudia Schiffer look was dictated by

[23:04] people that played with Barbies.

[23:05] >> This is the main showroom.

[23:06] >> We visited the studio of one of the top

[23:08] names included in the show, designer

[23:11] Nicole Miller. And this is Barbie's

[23:13] dress here.

[23:14] >> Well, actually, this was inspired by a

[23:16] dress in my first runway show. And it

[23:17] was worn by Linda Evangelisa on the one

[23:20] season that she had blonde hair.

[23:21] >> It was kind of a Barbie doll.

[23:23] >> Yeah. And with a blonde hair,

[23:24] especially. Miller says for her, Barbie

[23:26] will always conjure up the 1960s, about

[23:29] the time when she was a girl, a time of

[23:31] relative innocence.

[23:33] >> You just never think of her as being the

[23:34] hippie in the 70s or you don't think of

[23:36] her as like the 80s with big shoulder

[23:38] pads.

[23:38] >> Not that the folks at Mattel didn't try.

[23:42] >> Here's Rap Rock and Barbie. You can sing

[23:44] along cuz with her boom, you can rap a

[23:46] song. Dollsy

[23:48] >> Barbie was actually named for a real

[23:50] person, Barbara Seagull, the daughter of

[23:52] Mattel's late co-founder Ruth Handler.

[23:55] The two spoke with ABC News 10 years ago

[23:58] when Barbie turned 40.

[23:59] >> I didn't know they were naming a doll

[24:01] after me until suddenly the doll was out

[24:04] and named. I really didn't like it at

[24:06] the beginning because I couldn't adjust

[24:08] to it. Um, people are running up to me

[24:11] and asking for autographs and I couldn't

[24:12] understand why. So now Mattel brings you

[24:16] Ken.

[24:16] >> Barbie the doll dated Ken for 43 years

[24:20] until she famously dumped him on

[24:22] Valentine's Day 5 years ago. Although

[24:25] her friend Mij once got pregnant.

[24:27] Officially Barbie never had kids. Of

[24:30] course, generations of kids have had

[24:32] her.

[24:32] >> Um I like to dress them up in different

[24:34] clothes. I usually like doing their hair

[24:36] and dressing them up.

[24:38] >> Well, sort of embarrassing, but I sort

[24:41] of tack to it. These days, little girls

[24:43] get to design their own Barbie dolls for

[24:45] $45 a pop. Hairstyle, eye color,

[24:49] everything. The original doll cost $3,

[24:52] but some claim there were also massive

[24:55] therapy bills later.

[24:56] >> No, I don't think Barbie's healthy for

[24:58] little girls. And why not?

[24:59] >> I think she looks like her whole thing

[25:01] is just about mirrors, being surrounded

[25:04] by mirrors. And that's one of the

[25:07] terrible things that happened to models.

[25:10] and uh it was happening to me.

[25:12] >> Interesting. So, you've almost had the

[25:13] experience of being Barbie.

[25:15] >> Yes, I have.

[25:17] >> She's an inert piece of plastic. It's

[25:18] really much she's become a target and a

[25:20] lightning rod for other for other

[25:22] issues. It's only later when people look

[25:24] at it and they try to figure out, well,

[25:25] well, what went wrong? Yeah, it's

[25:27] Barbie's fault. You know, it's it's it's

[25:28] not it's a piece of plastic. And it must

[25:31] be said plastic surgery has made the

[25:33] Barbie beauty myth possible in a way

[25:35] that it wasn't in the 1950s. Barbie

[25:38] hasn't just imitated life. Medical

[25:40] Science now imitates Barbie.

[25:42] >> Recently, I saw a cover with an actress

[25:46] who's absolutely classically beautiful

[25:48] and has been a big star for 15 years,

[25:51] and I did not recognize her. It's

[25:53] because she was retouched into this sort

[25:56] of generic blonde oblivion.

[25:58] >> Do you think we should blame Barbie for

[26:00] that? For that ideal of beauty?

[26:01] >> Let's Let's blame Barbie.

[26:04] Why not? Like Michelle Fefeifer and

[26:07] Madonna, 50 will be a milestone for

[26:10] Barbie as it would be for any woman. But

[26:12] in part because of all that we can

[26:14] project and have projected over the

[26:16] years. At 50, Barbie is infinitely more

[26:19] complicated and interesting than ever.

[26:22] I'm David Wright for Night Line in New
