[0:00] And we're trying to
[0:10] Brian, thank you very much. And right
[0:11] now, thousands of residents are
[0:13] barricaded inside of their homes.
[0:14] They're listening to the wind, and
[0:15] they're hoping for the best. Now, this
[0:18] is the most crucial period as the
[0:19] hurricane moves on to land. For the very
[0:21] latest on the situation, we want to take
[0:22] you right to the Florida Panhandle, and
[0:24] NBC 6 reporter Hank Tester.
[0:28] Lots of wind and plenty of hard driving
[0:30] rain all day long. A fair warning that a
[0:33] massive hurricane is just over the
[0:35] horizon.
[0:39] This storm certainly has high potential
[0:43] of a loss of life and severe to
[0:45] catastrophic property damage.
[0:47] It's already a killer storm. 20 dead in

[1:12] forecasters and state officials say,

[1:16] We're on full alert, and I urge every
[1:18] family and business to closely monitor
[1:21] Opal's progress.
[1:23] Along the Panhandle, the weather was
[1:24] ugly all day.
[1:28] The hurricane expected to pile a
[1:30] 12-to-15-foot storm surge on land
[1:33] somewhere near Pensacola. Locals who
[1:36] usually ride these storms out are
[1:37] getting out, heading inland.
[1:42] The forecasters say outrunning this huge
[1:45] hurricane will be tough.
[1:47] Late this afternoon, thousands are
[1:48] already in shelters, businesses boarded
[1:51] up, and local residents praying Opal
[1:54] won't be as bad as predicted.
[1:57] There's g
