[0:05] Iraq's nuclear secrets. The UN finally
[0:07] prize them loose. And America's call for
[0:10] nuclear cuts. The Soviets and others
[0:12] weigh in.
[0:15] >> This is NBC Nightly News with Tom
[0:17] Brothal. Reporting tonight from NBC News
[0:20] headquarters in New York.
[0:23] Good evening. Saddam Hussein's latest
[0:25] war of nerves with the West is over for
[0:27] the moment at least. Those UN inspectors
[0:29] examining his nuclear secrets finally
[0:31] are out of Baghdad tonight. They got
[0:34] what they went for, and the evidence
[0:35] does show a nuclear program so
[0:37] extensive, it is no wonder that Saddam
[0:40] tried to keep it under wraps. NBC's Tom
[0:42] Aspel has the latest details.
[0:45] >> The UN inspection team arrived in
[0:47] Bahrain today after being held in
[0:49] Baghdad for 4 days. Iraq backed down and
[0:52] let them keep documents outlining Saddam
[0:54] Hussein's nuclear weapons program.
[0:57] How are you doing?
[0:58] >> David Kay and his 43 team members will
[1:00] spend two days being debriefed on their
[1:03] ordeal with Iraqi security forces in a
[1:05] Baghdad parking lot and on how to sort
[1:08] the documents, photographs, and
[1:09] videotapes they managed to get out of
[1:11] the country. The evidence, according to
[1:14] Kay, shows that the Iraqi effort to
[1:16] build and detonate a nuclear device was
[1:19] far more developed than the West had
[1:20] suspected. You walk around those sites
[1:23] and you shake your head because they're
[1:24] far better than most that I've seen, all
[1:27] I've seen, I think, in Western Europe or
[1:29] North America. It's a very big program.
[1:32] >> The inspectors say the Iraqis are
[1:34] continuing to hide evidence. And because
[1:37] one of the things we discover
