[11:53] we're thankful for Joe's service to his

[11:58] country but he wasn't just a

[12:00] soldier he was very much a family man so

[12:05] this time we're going to have a video

[12:08] presentation and after that we'll have

[12:10] some testimonies from those in the

[12:12] family so if you would pay attention to

[12:14] the screen this

[12:28] time

[12:58] for

[13:28] e

[13:58] e

[14:28] for e

[14:59] you

[15:57] your e

[16:46] put a smile on my face

[16:49] amen well just so you all know this is a

[16:52] celebration of life even though we're in

[16:54] mour so thank you all for coming out

[16:57] today to celebrate the life of my Father

[16:59] Joseph

[17:01] Case um I want to give a special thanks

[17:03] to everyone for the visits the dinners

[17:06] cards well wishes and

[17:08] prayers even if you think your efforts

[17:11] may have been small just know that

[17:12] nothing is small in the eyes of the Lord

[17:15] a feather may be small in light but when

[17:18] a multitude are combined a ton of

[17:20] feathers is still a metric ton of

[17:23] feathers uh quote John Wayne courage is

[17:26] being afraid but saddling up anyway

[17:29] and if you know my father you know he

[17:31] was a big

[17:32] fan my father was a hardworking man and

[17:35] loved being a helping hand he served God

[17:39] and loved serving the church from doing

[17:41] maintenance of the church cooking

[17:43] Saturday breakfast for the men's

[17:45] fellowship during The Bu um driving the

[17:48] bus so that children could attend church

[17:50] on

[17:52] Sundays um also to quote John Wayne A

[17:54] man's got to do what a man's got to

[17:57] do he love putting a smile on people's

[18:00] faces if you knew Jo well enough you

[18:03] understood he was the king of corny dad

[18:05] jokes um after his retirements from the

[18:08] water uh

[18:09] facilities he uh worked part-time at

[18:12] Lowe's just to keep himself busy and

[18:14] almost every single night he'd come home

[18:17] and he'd say man I feel like Medieval

[18:21] Times why dad because I'm

[18:25] Dragon another one I've heard him say a

[18:27] few times was

[18:29] why did the golfer bring two pair of

[18:31] pants in case he got a hole in

[18:34] one uh most of all though he loved you

[18:38] mom he loved my mom his wife Patricia he

[18:42] was a romantic at heart and he adored

[18:45] you mom you are his Rock his comfort and

[18:49] his whole

[18:51] heart a few days before his passing um I

[18:55] was on break at work scrolling through

[18:57] my phone I was dealing with the emotions

[19:00] and trials of caring for him and what he

[19:03] was going through and I came across this

[19:05] story so I'll try not to be too

[19:07] long-winded with this but I feel like

[19:10] the Lord and even dad uh the night after

[19:13] he passed I thought about this and I

[19:15] believed I should share this with you

[19:17] all um and what I had discovered about

[19:20] this story there is truth and relevance

[19:22] to

[19:23] it so our story takes place in the

[19:27] 1800s in uh the lurv in Paris um and at

[19:32] that museum there's a painting called

[19:36] Checkmate uh and as the story

[19:39] goes um a group of tourists were walking

[19:42] through to all the exhibits and among

[19:45] them was a world class chess player and

[19:48] if you're unfamiliar with the painting

[19:49] on one side is the devil playing with

[19:52] the black pieces and he has a slight

[19:54] smirk like he is about to win the game

[19:58] and

[19:59] on the other side is a man who is has

[20:03] Despair and Desperation on his face as

[20:05] he's about to lose the

[20:07] game so as the world class chess player

[20:10] player examines the painting the rest of

[20:13] the group moves on the tour guide comes

[20:16] back and says sir we've moved on and he

[20:18] says no this painting is incorrect you

[20:21] either have to change the name or do

[20:23] something different this is not

[20:25] Checkmate he said this is not Checkmate

[20:28] because the King has one more move he

[20:32] always has one more move for you no

[20:36] matter the trials and tribulations in

[20:38] your life if you seek God he has one

[20:42] more move for

[20:45] you the devil will trick you and deceive

[20:49] you but it is not his game to win it is

[20:52] not yours to control it is God's game to

[20:55] win if you seek him when you are down

[20:58] down and at your lowest with your back

[21:01] to a

[21:02] corner all you have to do is give it to

[21:05] God and he will have one more move for

[21:07] you

[21:09] amen thank you

[21:29] I uh I'm Don Joe's daughter and I have

[21:33] tried to write down my thoughts about my

[21:36] dad um I can't put it into words so or

[21:40] write it in anything the best I can say

[21:44] is

[21:46] um

[21:48] uh I was blessed that my dad was in the

[21:51] room when I came into this world and

[21:53] I'll for forever be blessed that I was

[21:56] there when he left this world and I'm so

[21:59] glad that I was with him in his final

[22:03] days and no

[22:06] matter what trials and tribulations we

[22:08] had through our time

[22:11] together it kind of piggybacks on what

[22:13] Sean was saying there's always one more

[22:16] move and the fact that in the last 15

[22:21] years or so my dad and I became much

[22:24] closer and that impacted my children so

[22:27] much

[22:30] and Christ and the Holy Spirit led us to

[22:34] the relationship that we ended with and

[22:36] I will forever be grateful and my

[22:39] children will forever be grateful and

[22:40] touched by that and so if anyone is ever

[22:44] questioning if they should try or give

[22:48] it to God they should absolutely do so

[22:52] absolutely my father was a wonderful man

[22:55] and I was blessed I had him he will

[22:58] forever ever be my daddy and I will miss

[23:00] him greatly but I'm so thankful that I

[23:03] had him the time that I had him and I'm

[23:05] so grateful that he was the father and

[23:07] grandfather that he was my children are

[23:10] the better for it and I'm a better woman

[23:12] for

[23:14] it and I think my girls want to come up

[23:16] and say

[23:17] something but I know that Joe my dad

[23:21] touched everyone here and I hope that

[23:24] everyone has a lasting thought of him

[23:27] and will for ever remember him because

[23:30] he is absolutely worth it and Mom he did

[23:33] love you so very

[23:35] much always and I love you too thank you

[23:40] everyone for being here

[23:59] so there's always uh life lessons we can

[24:01] always learn from people and um one of

[24:04] the biggest life lessons I want to give

[24:06] James

[24:07] 2:18 and uh James said yay a man may say

[24:11] thou Hast faith and I have Works show me

[24:14] thy faith without thy works and I will

[24:16] show thee my faith by my

[24:18] Works uh one of the things that defined

[24:21] my father were two words humility and

[24:24] service he was one who barely spoke he

[24:27] was the one who was always in the corner

[24:29] but he was always listening to

[24:30] everyone's concerns and he always wanted

[24:33] to meet those concerns whenever it came

[24:36] to the church my brother mentioned this

[24:38] uh he did everything from Plumbing to

[24:41] fixing all the things that were broke in

[24:44] the building and also having a huge hand

[24:45] in building the gy gymnasium back here

[24:49] he uh drove the bus route rout or route

[24:52] and um my father was the type of person

[24:55] that would drop any and everything

[24:57] without hesit

[24:59] ation to help as many people throughout

[25:02] his life from being there to support

[25:04] others in their times of need it didn't

[25:06] matter what time of day or night my

[25:09] father was

[25:11] there his humility for years my father

[25:14] enjoyed jobs that no one would want to

[25:16] do the dirty ones the ones that people

[25:19] would shy

[25:20] from he would wake up for years to drive

[25:23] the church bus and the rain the freezing

[25:25] cold and snow without a second thought

[25:29] and you could always count on him to be

[25:31] there regardless of what it was his

[25:34] attitude was that of Excellence he never

[25:37] expected anything in return at all for

[25:40] his

[25:41] Endeavors he found joy in knowing that

[25:43] serving others was

[25:46] enough and that they were taken care of

[25:49] the attributes that he had a few million

[25:52] service imprinted on

[25:54] me I would do these things I remember

[25:57] being a child

[25:59] with my brother sometimes coming up here

[26:00] to the late parts of the night helping

[26:02] our father fix things and just being

[26:05] there with him in the mornings to drive

[26:07] the bus and to help on the bus

[26:10] routes my father was actually one of the

[26:12] main reasons why I worked on the bus

[26:14] route here at Bible Baptist I think the

[26:18] two major things that Christ would want

[26:19] us to learn from my Dad's life is to

[26:22] have a heart of humility and to learn

[26:24] how to serve without expecting in

[26:25] anything in return and my father father

[26:28] showed his faith by his Works Matthew

[26:32] 2311 says but he that is greatest among

[26:35] you shall be your servant

[27:01] um I wrote a poem about my

[27:08] grandpa so I'm G to read her poem for

[27:11] her um having a little trouble but a

[27:15] heart of gold stopped beating his

[27:17] working hands now at rest this has been

[27:19] one of life's hardest challenges but

[27:22] they do say God Only Takes the best we

[27:25] sat with you by your bedside and our

[27:27] hearts became crushed we saw our duty

[27:30] through to the end until we could do no

[27:33] more a life of kindness and laughter

[27:36] your love for all the family so true you

[27:39] did your best for all of us and we will

[27:41] always remember you you leave behind a

[27:44] legacy so great it's beyond measures our

[27:47] hearts full of beautiful memories so

[27:49] precious that we will forever treasure

[27:52] you thank you

[28:11] at this time if there's anybody else

[28:12] that would like to say anything a kind

[28:14] word or a memory uh we'll open this up

[28:16] for just a

[28:24] moment family wanted to give opportunity

[28:27] if there was anyone else that wanted to

[28:28] say anything they'd give you opportunity

[28:31] to do that and so if there is anyone

[28:33] just let us know and we I want to give

[28:36] you that

[28:37] opportunity um Joe touched a lot of

[28:40] lives and we're thankful for all the

[28:42] time that we got to have with him

[28:46] um as a pastor I get

[28:50] the

[28:52] opportunity to remember people in their

[28:56] service to the Lord

[28:59] and when I got the

[29:01] news he had passed

[29:04] away on Sunday

[29:08] morning began to think about the

[29:11] time that we had

[29:15] together Patty and I talked that morning

[29:17] and prayed

[29:19] together I began to think about this

[29:23] day and what the Lord would have me say

[29:28] the Lord directed my

[29:31] heart as a pastor at times we get

[29:35] opportunity to preach

[29:38] funerals and there are times where you

[29:41] have some that are very

[29:43] similar

[29:45] messages and the Lord touched my heart

[29:47] on

[29:49] Sunday and gave me a a thought that I

[29:52] wanted to leave with you

[29:55] today entitled The fingerprints

[29:58] of a

[29:59] man the Fingerprints of a

[30:02] man you scroll down the hallway of our

[30:05] church building to the

[30:07] gymnasium you'll find sinks and

[30:11] faucets copper

[30:13] lines that all have the Fingerprints of

[30:17] Joe case on

[30:18] them he plumbed the entire

[30:22] gymnasium and did all the work there you

[30:25] can go to other parts of the building

[30:27] and find hot water

[30:29] heaters Plumbing lines you'll find

[30:32] Fingerprints of Joe

[30:34] case and in some instances maybe a few

[30:37] blood droplet stains from all the hard

[30:41] work I

[30:44] remember the last time I think he put in

[30:46] a hot water heater he was

[30:49] 70 and he was here at the church taking

[30:52] it apart putting it

[30:55] together and uh it was that moment

[30:58] that my heart be to say I'm going to

[31:02] miss

[31:03] this because part of the fun with Joe

[31:06] coming to work here at the church was

[31:09] talking to Joe while he worked and

[31:13] having those conversations with

[31:16] him you can go out in some of the buses

[31:20] in our parking lot you'll find

[31:22] Fingerprints of Joe

[31:24] case from driving the bus and picking up

[31:28] up

[31:28] children for 20 plus years driving the

[31:32] bus our soundboard is so old that it's

[31:36] got Fingerprints of Joe case on it he

[31:39] used to run the sound system here at the

[31:41] church and there's Fingerprints of Joe

[31:44] on the sound

[31:46] system um a few years ago we were

[31:48] cleaning out some storage and we found

[31:51] tape after tape that had his

[31:53] fingerprints all over it from the

[31:55] recordings that he did

[31:58] we had times here you would find him

[32:01] working as a trustee at the

[32:04] church when I first came became Pastor

[32:07] here we started having a men's prayer

[32:11] breakfast and shortly after we got

[32:13] started with that he volunteered to help

[32:16] cook so there's frying pans and other

[32:19] things throughout that kitchen that have

[32:21] Joe's fingerprints all over

[32:24] them as was mentioned by the family

[32:28] he was a

[32:30] servant and loved to

[32:33] serve in Joshua chapter number

[32:37] one the Lord begins to speak to Joshua

[32:40] and this is what he says now after the

[32:42] death of

[32:44] Moses the servant of the

[32:47] Lord it came to pass that the Lord spake

[32:50] unto Joshua the son of none Moses

[32:52] Minister

[32:54] saying verse two Moses my servant vant

[32:59] is

[33:00] dead Throughout the chapter of chapter

[33:03] one of

[33:04] Joshua there is this Moses my servant

[33:08] Moses my

[33:10] servant Moses my

[33:13] servant and a challenge to

[33:16] Joshua as he's now stepping up and

[33:20] stepping

[33:21] in to be the new servant of the

[33:26] Lord there amazing thing that happens in

[33:29] this passage is Joshua comes from a

[33:32] military

[33:34] background and if you read the first

[33:36] chapters in

[33:37] Joshua the Lord spends a lot of time

[33:39] telling him be strong and of good

[33:42] courage is always puzzled me because

[33:44] he's a military man who's used to

[33:46] fighting why does he need to have

[33:48] courage now well it's new

[33:51] territory new territory with the same

[33:54] God now he's leading

[33:56] people in everyday life not just on the

[34:00] battlefield and as I thought about

[34:03] Joe the Fingerprints of Joe all

[34:06] throughout this building there's also

[34:09] Fingerprints of Joe all across this

[34:12] family I Remember When Storms came

[34:18] there'd be snow on the ground and icy

[34:21] situations and Patty was still working

[34:24] at

[34:25] Walmart Joe wanted to make sure she got

[34:28] there okay he was her she was his

[34:31] Precious

[34:33] Cargo so he would pick her up take her

[34:36] to work and then he'd come by the church

[34:40] and he'd talk with me and we'd visit and

[34:44] he'd say I'm waiting I said what are you

[34:47] waiting for he said I'm waiting to pick

[34:48] up Patty from work I don't want her to

[34:51] fall on the ice I don't want her to slip

[34:53] I I just want to make sure she's okay I

[34:57] said okay okay goes so is it all right

[34:59] if I sit here for the next 3 hours while

[35:01] I wait for her to get off

[35:03] work cuz he wanted to make sure that his

[35:07] love was

[35:09] okay I remember the Fingerprints of

[35:13] love when you had your first surgery

[35:16] with the

[35:17] cancer we in the hospital and Sean you

[35:21] may remember this we were there all day

[35:24] waiting and waiting and waiting

[35:28] and

[35:29] waiting what we didn't realize is they

[35:31] postponed the surgery but they didn't

[35:34] tell us they just left us in the waiting

[35:37] room so we sat there and waited and I

[35:39] think we even had her phone with us so

[35:42] she couldn't call us she's just hanging

[35:43] out taking a

[35:45] nap here we were just waiting for the

[35:48] whole time I was hearing about Joe's

[35:51] love story with Patty and how much she

[35:54] meant to him and um he ask questions he

[35:58] goes you think she's okay she's all

[36:00] right we go down and had lunch and we're

[36:03] reading and he's like I I wonder she's

[36:05] hungry she can't eat I don't want to eat

[36:07] because she can't eat right now she

[36:09] getting ready to have surgery I don't

[36:10] want and the love that just overflowed

[36:12] out of his

[36:14] heart Fingerprints of love all over that

[36:18] relationship the Fingerprints of

[36:20] humility and service all over a

[36:24] family so today as we honor the

[36:27] Fingerprints of Joe and military service

[36:30] and service to the Lord and service to

[36:33] his

[36:34] family we're entering new

[36:37] territory new territory because he's

[36:40] gone home to be with the

[36:42] Lord on Sunday when Patty and I talked I

[36:46] made mention this isn't goodbye this is

[36:49] see you later because we know the Lord

[36:52] we sorrow not as those who have no hope

[36:56] we have hope

[36:58] but family let me encourage you you're

[37:02] leaving fingerprints

[37:04] too and you had a good example of how to

[37:08] leave those

[37:09] fingerprints let me encourage you keep

[37:11] it

[37:13] up keep it up leave a fingerprint mark

[37:17] on this world just like your dad

[37:20] did and have an impact on those around

[37:23] us Joshua chapter

[37:26] 1 the Lord tells Joshua as I was with

[37:31] Moses so shall I be with thee as God was

[37:36] with your father so can God be with you

[37:39] and he can help you in these moments of

[37:42] difficulty friends that are here

[37:45] today you're also leaving fingerprints

[37:49] behind you're leaving marks on this

[37:51] world as

[37:53] well but let's leave some good

[37:55] fingerprints behind

[37:58] let's leave some marks on this world

[38:01] that others could say of us they left an

[38:03] impression on

[38:07] me church family that's here another

[38:10] Soldier has gone home another

[38:14] opportunity to live a life of service to

[38:17] the

[38:19] Lord he says to Joshua Joshua as I was

[38:24] with Moses only be thou strong and very

[38:27] good

[38:29] courageous then he tells him this that

[38:31] this book of the law shall not depart

[38:34] out of thy mouth Thou shalt meditate

[38:37] therein day and night that thou mayest

[38:40] observe to do according to all that is

[38:42] written therein for then Thou shalt make

[38:45] thy way prosperous and then Thou shalt

[38:48] have good

[38:50] success the one time in Scripture that

[38:52] success is mentioned involves a man's

[38:56] relationship ship with God's word there

[39:00] are many times that I visited Joe and we

[39:02] talked about the Bible we talked about

[39:05] God's word we talked about those

[39:09] things I'm going to miss those

[39:11] conversations they even had dad jokes

[39:13] intwined in

[39:14] there but I'm going to miss those

[39:17] conversations I'm going to miss my

[39:19] friend there's fingerprints at my house

[39:23] from Joe he came we had a waterline

[39:25] break in our house and he came around

[39:27] right over and fixed

[39:29] it he just wanted to be a blessing to

[39:31] his

[39:32] preacher I miss that but to miss

[39:36] him but today let me encourage you if

[39:39] you know the

[39:42] Lord this is not goodbye but see you

[39:47] again we've seen a life that's left

[39:51] marks that's left fingerprints on people

[39:55] on places on

[39:57] lives so let's us do the

[40:01] same let's leave behind some

[40:04] fingerprints not just on Plumbing lines

[40:07] and frying

[40:09] pans but everything that he did he did

[40:13] it for the

[40:15] Lord and you and I are to live our lives

[40:19] for

[40:21] God we're entering new

[40:23] territory it's going to be different at

[40:25] the house

[40:28] going to be different only be thou

[40:31] strong and very courageous the Lord thy

[40:33] God is with thee withs soever thou

[40:36] goest it's going to be hard you're going

[40:38] to want to pick up that phone and call

[40:41] him he's not going to

[40:44] answer the new

[40:46] territory only be thou strong and very

[40:49] courageous look for the fingerprint

[40:53] marks of

[40:55] Grandpa dad

[40:58] in your

[40:59] life look for those fingerprint marks

[41:02] and

[41:03] rejoice that you had time with him to

[41:07] help you friends and family look for the

[41:10] fingerprint marks in your life how he

[41:15] touched your life or impacted

[41:17] you be thankful for those

[41:22] memories I remember playing golf with

[41:24] him a few years ago

[41:27] and it was frustrating him because he

[41:29] was having a bad golf day and he was

[41:32] telling me I think I'm going to give up

[41:34] Golf and then I saw him a couple weeks

[41:37] later I said where where you headed he

[41:38] goes I'm going to the driving range I

[41:40] got to get

[41:42] better I can't give it up preacher I

[41:44] want to keep

[41:46] going sometimes I just like to get in

[41:49] the golf cart and Ride

[41:50] Along because it's

[41:55] entertaining the fingerprint marks

[41:58] on our lives the

[42:01] stories the conversations we

[42:04] had I'm going to miss him next time I go

[42:08] to visit my wife's family in Indiana we

[42:11] had a tradition when we' travel through

[42:16] Illinois I'd either talked to him the

[42:18] day before said hey I'm going through

[42:20] Pokey which is Pocahontas

[42:23] Illinois but he called it Pokey because

[42:25] that's you know that's the term

[42:29] there's many times I'd call him and say

[42:31] hey guess where I'm

[42:33] at and we'd have that conversation on

[42:35] the

[42:37] phone and I drive through Effingham

[42:40] Illinois there's a large cross that's

[42:43] there on the side of the

[42:45] interstate I think of Joe growing up

[42:48] just right around that

[42:50] area we had a lot of conversations and

[42:53] talked about those things talked about

[42:54] his time as a track runner

[42:58] it's time in the

[43:00] military but Patty besides the Lord you

[43:03] are his second favorite topic to talk

[43:05] about it's always about

[43:08] you and I'm thankful for the

[43:11] testimony and the fingerprint marks of

[43:14] life but today we're entering new

[43:19] territory but let's leave a mark like

[43:22] Joe did upon people and upon this world

[43:28] but think about him

[43:30] today think about all the things that he

[43:33] left behind all the memories you have

[43:37] and on those hard days

[43:40] remember remember take courage in the

[43:44] Lord be strong and of good courage Be

[43:48] not Afraid neither be thou dismayed for

[43:51] the Lord thy God is with thee withs

[43:53] soever thou

[43:55] goest I could say it this way

[43:59] Joe the servant of the

[44:02] Lord has passed on from this life to the

[44:06] next and we will miss him but we can

[44:11] rejoice in the Life marks that he left

[44:16] behind would you bow your heads for

[44:19] prayer dear heavenly father Lord we're

[44:22] thankful for a life that knew you as

[44:26] Savior

[44:28] that

[44:29] knows how to be a

[44:32] servant and just serve the Lord a spirit

[44:36] of

[44:37] humility Lord I pray

[44:40] today as we leave this

[44:44] place this is not goodbye for those of

[44:48] us who know the

[44:49] Lord but this is see you

[44:52] later Lord if there's someone here today

[44:55] that does not know

[44:57] know if they're going to heaven or

[45:01] not Lord today you've got one more move

[45:05] for them that's to offer them the gift

[45:09] of

[45:10] Salvation Lord I pray if there's anyone

[45:13] like that today they'll talk to us

[45:16] before they

[45:17] leave we could show them in God's word

[45:20] how they can know that they're on their

[45:22] way to

[45:23] heaven Lord thank you for a life like

[45:27] Showcase in your name I pray

[45:31] amen we're going to give you opportunity

[45:33] to come by as a music plays to see the

[45:37] family with everything Patty's going

[45:40] through right now with cancer treatments

[45:43] we do ask that you would use the hand

[45:45] sanitizer just to keep the germs down

[45:47] her immune system is quite compromised

[45:49] so we've placed it here for you and so

[45:52] the funeral home will dismiss You by row

[45:54] to come uh but we ask that you please

[45:56] use the hand sanitizer just to protect

[45:59] her immune system and be a blessing to

[46:01] her so as the music begins to

[46:25] play
