[0:03] >> Good evening. This is the CBS Evening
[0:04] News. I'm Bill Curtis sitting in for Dan
[0:06] Rather. Like generals after battle.
[0:09] Authorities in the south were counting
[0:10] casualties today. 22 people reportedly
[0:13] were dead and damage estimates ran in
[0:15] the millions after tornadoes,
[0:17] thunderstorms, and flooding in recent
[0:18] days. One woman was killed when a
[0:20] tornado touched down last night at this
[0:22] mobile home park at Possum Kingdom Lake
[0:24] about 100 miles west of Dallas. And
[0:27] thousands of people were homeless along
[0:28] the San Justinto River in southeast
[0:30] Texas today with the waters nearing
[0:32] record levels. Now, John Shayan reports
[0:35] from one hard-hit Mississippi City where
[0:37] anger is at flood stage.
[0:40] >> For the people of Jackson, the news was
[0:41] bad today. Instead of receding, the
[0:44] flood would rise again. Unexpectedly
[0:46] high water from the north into Barnett
[0:48] Reservoir forced officials to release
[0:50] more water into neighborhoods where 700
[0:53] homes and businesses are already
[0:55] flooded. I know this is not much
[0:57] consolation to many people who are
[0:59] worried and who are watching and seeing
[1:02] the water creep.
[1:03] >> In the high tower section of town, Billy
[1:05] Bullock comes to his repair shop. He was
[1:07] flooded out once before in 1979.
[1:10] >> It makes you feel a little better. I got
[1:12] insurance this time and I didn't have
[1:13] last time.
[1:15] >> Mrs. Jesse Sanford is not insured. She
[1:17] finds wreckage, 2 ft of water, and
[1:19] almost nothing to salvage beyond some
[1:21] medicine and a few pieces of clothing.
[1:25] Nothing I can do.
