[0:05] From ABC, this is World News Tonight

[0:08] with Peter Jennings in Iran. And from

[0:10] our desk in Washington, Frank Reynolds.

[0:13] >> Good evening. Now, on the 34th day of

[0:15] captivity for American hostages in

[0:17] Thran, we have once again had totally

[0:19] conflicting statements about what might

[0:21] happen to them. The foreign minister

[0:23] says some will be let go. The so-called

[0:25] students say all will be tried. But

[0:28] there was nothing unclear about the

[0:29] reaction of the United States. To put

[0:58] just completed elsewhere in the building

[0:59] with the hostages families promised

[1:01] today to do nothing that might result in

[1:03] harm to the hostages.

[1:05] >> I am not going to take

[1:08] any military action that would cause

[1:10] bloodshed or arouse the unstable

[1:14] capttors of our hostages to attack them

[1:17] or to punish them. We're going to be

[1:18] very moderate, very cautious.

[1:21] guided and supported and advised by

[1:23] Secretary Vance. Our purpose is to get

[1:26] the hostages home and get them safe.

[1:28] That's my total commitment. And I know

[1:30] you join with me as four parties in this

[1:33] effort. The

[1:37] >> No military actio
