[0:02] The Channel 2 News Weekend Report with
[0:04] Richard Brown, Lester Holt, and Mr. G
[0:07] with the weather.
[0:14] Good evening. 24 hours after Hurricane
[0:15] Gloria charged through the New York
[0:17] area, things are mostly back to normal.
[0:19] In the aftermath, areas with only minor
[0:21] damage, others still reeling from the
[0:22] storm. The shorelines bore the brunt of
[0:24] Gloria's wrath with Long Island and
[0:26] Connecticut hardest hit. The eye of the
[0:28] hurricane passed through Fire Island
[0:30] where damage was heavy. Experts say
[0:32] damage wasn't greater because Gloria
[0:34] struck at low tide and modern technology
[0:36] has provided quality tracking and early
[0:38] warning systems. Still, a half dozen
[0:40] deaths have been blamed on Gloria in our
[0:42] area. Other up-to-date facts on Gloria,

[0:47] on Long Island. In Connecticut, nearly
[0:49] 400,000 still have no electricity and
[0:52] some 13,000 Con Ed customers don't have
[0:54] power. 100,000 people were evacuated on
[0:57] Long Island. Nearly all of those have
[0:59] returned to their homes. Most roads have
[1:01] been reopened, but there are scattered
[1:02] delays on commuter rail lines. Gloria
[1:05] cut a path of down power lines and
[1:07] fallen trees through the middle of Long
[1:09] Island today. New York's top officials
[1:10] assessed the damage across the island
[1:12] and especially in Suffolk County.
[1:14] Standing by now in Islip is Channel 2's
[1:16] Long Island correspondent Carlos Meschia
[1:18] with today's developments. Carlos?
[1:20] Lester, it is the day after and people
