[0:00] At least seven people are confirmed
[0:01] dead, but that number is expected to
[0:03] rise. At least 60 people have been
[0:05] hospitalized, some with serious
[0:07] injuries, and more than 20 families
[0:09] report missing loved ones. The I-35
[0:12] bridge collapsed just after 6:00 p.m.
[0:14] local time at the height of rush hour,
[0:17] and at least 50 vehicles plunged into
[0:19] the Mississippi River. The 40-year-old
[0:21] bridge had been under repair for some 6
[0:24] weeks now. It was inspected last year,
[0:26] and no serious structural problems were
[0:29] found. This collapse happened right in
[0:31] the middle of the Twin Cities. The I-35W
[0:34] bridge connects Minneapolis with St.
[0:36] Paul in the area right around the
[0:37] University of Minnesota, or at least it
[0:39] did connect them before last night.
[0:41] Early Show national correspondent Tracy
[0:43] Smith is live at the scene with more.
[0:45] Good morning, Tracy.
[0:47] >> Good morning, Harry. I want you to take
[0:49] a look behind me. You can actually see
[0:50] where the bridge collapsed. See how it
[0:53] buckles there just a little bit. You can
[0:55] see some construction equipment up top
[0:57] there, but those other vehicles that you
[0:58] see are actually vehicles that were
[1:00] about to cross the bridge when the
[1:02] bridge collapsed. Now, after a long,
[1:04] dark night, divers and rescuers are
[1:06] starting to search again for victims in
[1:08] the rubble and the water. This was a
[1:10] major thoroughfare that thousands of
[1:12] commuters traveled every day, and now
[1:15] it's a scene of utter disaster.
[1:19] Those who lived through it found it
[1:20] tough to describe.
[1:22] >> Unbelievable.
[1:25] Crazy.
[1:26] I don't know. I don't know the word for
