[15:31] good to see some of you that I know uh

[15:34] go to this church and I'm uh good to see

[15:36] you again and I'm glad our that your

[15:39] pastor invited me to come and uh be a

[15:42] part of the service this morning I think

[15:43] he wanted Dave McCracken but you can't

[15:45] get Dave McCracken that fast but I'm

[15:48] available so it's good to be here uh

[15:52] just tell you who I am I have uh been

[15:55] part of the church staff at Southwest

[15:57] Baptist in Oklahoma City for 33 years up

[16:02] until

[16:03] September and I resigned that position

[16:06] and have uh the City of Oklahoma City

[16:09] offered me a chapy for the Oklahoma City

[16:12] Police Department and so I am the

[16:15] chaplain now full-time chaplain for the

[16:17] police department and uh that is a real

[16:20] blessing my son is a sergeant on the

[16:22] police force and uh cops need Jesus just

[16:26] like everybody else and and so that's

[16:29] what I get to do now is just spend my

[16:31] time with police officers every day and

[16:34] it's it is it's a whole different kind

[16:36] of ministry but it is sure certainly a

[16:39] blessing and so I've been in full-time

[16:41] Ministry for over 40 years and I'm only

[16:43] 49 so that works out well somehow my

[16:48] wife I brought my wife Sam uh this

[16:50] morning and a couple granddaughters

[16:53] one's tearing up the nursery uh and

[16:55] one's in junior Church brought them with

[16:58] us this morning also so I'm looking

[17:00] forward to uh being with you all day

[17:03] today uh before we start this morning I

[17:06] want to give a little bit of a

[17:07] commercial for this this evening service

[17:10] anybody in here ride a

[17:13] motorcycle okay hey we got some

[17:14] motorcycle riders awesome because

[17:17] tonight in the

[17:19] service I I want to talk to you uh about

[17:22] a motorcycle trip I took last

[17:26] year uh a year ago October

[17:29] I took a motorcycle

[17:31] trip that uh uh I I you just you'll have

[17:35] to hear it to believe it because some of

[17:37] it's so crazy and uh in that trip God

[17:43] taught me some great lessons and I want

[17:45] to share them with you especially as we

[17:48] enter into a new year really you'll I

[17:52] think you'll find it uh imp appropriate

[17:55] and helpful as we go into a new year and

[17:58] I get to talk about motorcycles a little

[18:00] bit which is one of my passions and so

[18:02] for those of you who ride you understand

[18:04] if you don't you need to go out and buy

[18:06] a motorcycle today why

[18:08] not joking don't do that look in Acts

[18:13] chapter number 10 Acts chapter number 10

[18:17] I want to talk to you about this guy

[18:18] this

[18:23] morning Acts chapter number 10 I'm going

[18:26] to I want to read about the story about

[18:28] Cornelius which you're

[18:31] familiar um so this is anything you

[18:34] you're not aware of his story so I'm not

[18:37] going to read the entire thing but I am

[18:38] going to read some pieces uh just so we

[18:41] all are on the same page what's going on

[18:44] in this man's life so Acts chapter

[18:46] number 10 starting in verse number one

[18:50] there was a certain man in cesaria

[18:52] called

[18:54] Cornelius a centurion of the band called

[18:58] The Itali Ian band now that's not a rock

[19:01] and roll band that's a a group of

[19:04] soldiers so he is uh a Centurian usually

[19:07] means over a hundred soldiers so he's an

[19:09] important soldier in the Roman army he's

[19:12] not a Jew uh he's Roman I mean the name

[19:16] gives it away so this we're introduced

[19:18] immediately to this Roman

[19:21] soldier and his life is different though

[19:24] look at verse number two a devout man

[19:29] and one that feared God with all his

[19:31] house and which gave much alms to the

[19:35] people and prayed to God always this is

[19:39] a different kind of Roman isn't

[19:41] it he saw this Cornelius in a vision

[19:45] evidently about the ninth hour of the

[19:47] day an angel of God coming to him and

[19:50] saying Cornelius and when he looked on

[19:53] him he was afraid and said what is it

[19:55] Lord and he said unto him thy prayers

[19:58] and thine arms are come up for Memorial

[20:02] before God God who is God has heard your

[20:05] prayers what he

[20:07] saying and now send men to japa and call

[20:12] for one Simon whose surname is Peter now

[20:16] that's the Peter we all

[20:18] know he

[20:22] lodgethe is by the

[20:24] seaside he shall tell thee what thou

[20:26] oughtest to do

[20:29] now skip down to verse number

[20:32] 25 I'll read some more we'll catch some

[20:35] more here in a minute but we'll just get

[20:37] some pieces as we start verse number 25

[20:40] and as Peter was coming in Cornelius met

[20:42] him and fell down at his feet and

[20:44] worshiped him but Peter took him up

[20:47] saying stand up I myself also am a man

[20:51] and as he talked with him he went in and

[20:53] found many that were come together and

[20:55] he said unto them ye know how that it is

[20:59] unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew

[21:03] to keep company or come unto one of

[21:06] another

[21:07] Nation that's the Jewish

[21:10] law but God has showed

[21:13] me that I should not call any man common

[21:18] or

[21:19] unclean now look at verse 34 then Peter

[21:23] opened his mouth and said of a truth I

[21:25] perceive that God is no respector of

[21:27] persons

[21:29] but in every nation he that feareth him

[21:31] and worketh righteousness is accepted

[21:34] with him look at verse

[21:36] 44 and while Peter yet spake these words

[21:39] the Holy Ghost fell on all them which

[21:41] heard the word and they of the

[21:43] circumcision which believed were

[21:45] astonished those Jews they were

[21:48] astonished as many as came with Peter

[21:50] because that on the Gentiles also was

[21:53] poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost

[21:56] for they heard them speak with tongues

[21:58] and M magnify God then answered Peter

[22:01] can any man forbid water that the should

[22:03] not be baptized which have received the

[22:05] Holy Ghost as well as we and he

[22:07] commanded them to be baptized in the

[22:09] name of the Lord then prayed they him to

[22:54] man now when I was growing up and if

[22:58] you're in the generation that I'm that I

[23:01] uh was in or close or maybe still do you

[23:05] not start or did you not like to start

[23:07] your mornings with breakfast

[23:09] cereal or your afternoon or evening

[23:12] snack whatever and I'm talking about the

[23:14] good kind of breakfast cereal I'm

[23:16] talking about like Captain

[23:18] Crunch and my favorite growing up count

[23:21] chocula uh Frosted Flakes Lucky Charms

[23:24] Apple Jacks Froot Loops tricks they're

[23:27] for kids I'm talking about all that good

[23:29] stuff and I'm thinking just this morning

[23:32] I started my morning with a bowl of uh

[23:35] Cocoa Puffs so I still to this day like

[23:39] those kind of cereals and all of those

[23:41] cereals that I mentioned all of my

[23:43] favorite cereals have one thing in

[23:44] common and you know it if you read the

[23:47] ingredients the first one is

[23:50] Sugar Sugar basically I liked as a kid

[23:54] and I still like sugar and milk in a

[23:57] bowl

[23:59] but I remember back in the you know when

[24:00] I was young growing up there was

[24:02] something else about buying cereal going

[24:05] down the cereal aisle with your mother

[24:07] uh there was something else about buying

[24:09] in those boxes in those days that made

[24:12] it even uh more special than just sugar

[24:16] and that was they advertised on the

[24:18] front of the box that inside the

[24:21] box was a special treat you know there

[24:25] was going to be not just sugary goodness

[24:28] there was going to be a prize and it

[24:30] could be all kinds of things it might be

[24:32] a pencil topper or a plastic figure of

[24:35] some cartoon character or a bike

[24:37] reflector or a glow-in-the dark pen or a

[24:40] plastic decoder ring or a whistle or a

[24:44] temporary tattoo or some cheap

[24:48] junk that would make a kid walking down

[24:51] the cereal aisle say Mom I gotta have

[24:54] that cereal today and you know what

[24:56] would happen as soon as you got home

[24:57] with the cereal you put your arm all the

[24:59] way down in the Box I gotta find that

[25:03] treasure but you know also this

[25:06] inevitably we at a young age we were

[25:09] learning the truth of Life the picture

[25:12] on the box didn't seem to

[25:16] match the reality of the treasure in the

[25:19] box if only we could have seen through

[25:23] the cardboard box to see what it really

[25:26] was inside Maybe we have would have

[25:29] purchased a different cereal that week

[25:32] because you know the outside and the

[25:34] inside didn't always

[25:38] match the Bible says this about God

[25:41] who's different than us in first Samuel

[25:45] 16 the Bible says this man lookth on the

[25:48] outward

[25:49] appearance you know why that's all we

[25:51] can see man lookth on the outward

[25:54] appearance and then it follows up with

[25:56] this the Lord lookth on the heart now

[26:00] there's two things that stand out it's

[26:02] this God is able to see what we cannot

[26:05] see the heart and number two God is not

[26:09] impressed with the same things that

[26:11] impress you and

[26:14] me because God sees what goes on in your

[26:17] heart and in your mind nothing is hidden

[26:20] from God you can fool everyone you know

[26:24] you can fool everyone in this room but

[26:26] you cannot SP Ru God because he sees the

[26:31] hidden man of the heart and you know

[26:36] what this verse was talking about Samuel

[26:38] he's looking at Jesse's boys and he's

[26:41] going to pick out the new king remember

[26:44] and those boys that looked all

[26:46] kingly from the outside their physical

[26:51] appearance Samuel was trying to pick

[26:54] those boys that looked like they would

[26:55] be great Kings from the outside and

[26:58] that's when God let all of us know hey I

[27:01] don't look on the

[27:03] outside I can see on the inside it's not

[27:07] that he's not concerned about our

[27:08] outside that's not it at all go the

[27:11] verse never says God's not concerned

[27:13] about our outside it just says he knows

[27:16] what's on the

[27:17] inside that's more

[27:20] important now if all of us in this

[27:23] room had known

[27:26] Cornelius if we had been around him if

[27:29] we had lived around him worked around

[27:30] him if we knew him somehow we would all

[27:33] have come to the same conclusion this

[27:35] guy is a good

[27:37] guy from the

[27:39] outside according to what the verse

[27:42] verses said he was a man of high morals

[27:45] he was a man that loved his family he

[27:48] was a man who loved his fellow man he

[27:50] was a man who wanted to do the right

[27:52] thing in other words we would have seen

[27:54] a man who was respected by people in the

[27:56] community he wouldn't Have Cheated or

[27:58] harmed anyone he was faithful evidently

[28:02] he had was unashamed he was devouted

[28:04] about his religious beliefs in other

[28:07] words everything on the outside that you

[28:09] and I could see and that people could

[28:11] see pointed to a man who loved and knew

[28:17] God it pointed to a man on the outside

[28:21] who would one day go to

[28:24] heaven but God can see more than the

[28:26] outside

[28:29] and while the outside is important

[28:33] sure far more important is what on the

[28:37] inside the question is did Cornelius

[28:41] with all that we've read about

[28:44] him did he know

[28:46] God was he genuinely as we would put it

[28:49] a Believer was he saved was he born

[28:51] again was he's on his way to heaven

[28:54] that's what I want to look

[28:55] at first look at this right the first

[28:59] two verses we read in chapter number 10

[29:02] it says this about cornelius's faith it

[29:05] says he was

[29:07] devout now he was devout not about some

[29:10] Roman god or some Greek god who still

[29:15] they still had that influence not about

[29:17] those Gods no this man Cornelius even

[29:20] though he was a Roman he was one of many

[29:23] Gentiles who had been converted to

[29:26] Judaism he was following the god of the

[29:29] Bible he probably went to the synagogue

[29:31] he probably was taught in the scriptures

[29:34] and he probably kept the Sabbath and he

[29:36] probably kept all the laws that all the

[29:39] Jews tried to keep and can I tell you

[29:41] some of them were pretty uh

[29:45] restrictive let me read you some of the

[29:48] Jewish laws that Cornelius would have

[29:52] kept and this has most to do with food

[29:55] because that's on my brain for some

[29:56] reason right now

[29:58] certain animals cannot be eaten at

[30:01] all and the Restriction includes the

[30:04] flesh organs eggs and milk of all the

[30:06] Forbidden

[30:07] animals of animals that may be eaten

[30:11] birds and mammals must be killed in

[30:13] accordance with Jewish law all blood

[30:15] must be drained from the meat and

[30:17] broiled out of it before it's eaten

[30:19] certain parts of permitted animals may

[30:21] not be eaten fruits and vegetables are

[30:24] permitted but must be inspected for bugs

[30:28] well I I appreciate that meat flesh of

[30:32] birds and animals cannot be eaten with

[30:34] dairy fish eggs fruits vegetables and

[30:37] Grains cannot be eaten with either meat

[30:39] or

[30:40] dairy utensils that have come in contact

[30:43] with meat may not be used with dairy and

[30:46] vice versa utensils that have come into

[30:49] contact with non- kosher food may not be

[30:52] used with kosher food and this applies

[30:56] in any contact while the food was hot

[30:59] grape products made by

[31:03] non-jews can never be eaten man it's

[31:06] going to be tough to be a Jew isn't it

[31:09] but he signed

[31:11] on Cornelius was devout even with all

[31:15] the restrictions and all the rules that

[31:16] we look at we say that some of them are

[31:18] kind of crazy he was devout he was all

[31:21] in in fact look what it says in that

[31:23] verse in verse number two he feared

[31:26] God in other words he had had reverence

[31:28] for God everything that he did in his

[31:32] mind he wanted to make sure God was

[31:35] pleased he was as serious about his

[31:38] religion as any of us in this room and

[31:41] according to verse number two his family

[31:44] was also LED in the same way it says

[31:47] with all his house those pagan gods that

[31:52] many of the Romans worshiped they were

[31:54] not for his family so here we have this

[31:57] Roman soldier who was probably a battle

[32:00] hardened Soldier he was a leader of men

[32:03] he made certain that my family's going

[32:05] to grow up under

[32:07] Judaism now you could imagine that would

[32:10] put him at odds with the culture the

[32:12] Romans around him if you didn't know

[32:15] Jews and Romans didn't really get along

[32:17] that

[32:18] well so here we have this Roman

[32:21] Centurion with the pressures around him

[32:23] to be a Roman and all the Roman culture

[32:27] I'm sure was strong but here he was

[32:29] saying I'm not that's not for me and

[32:32] that's not for my family Rome has

[32:34] nothing to offer Roman gods and the

[32:37] Roman religions have nothing to offer I

[32:39] want my family to know who Jehovah God

[32:42] is and he did everything in his power to

[32:46] lead his family towards this belief in

[32:50] Jehovah God through

[32:52] Judaism it said he gives much alms in

[32:56] verse number two what is that uh money

[33:00] he gave money he gave money to people

[33:03] who needed he gave money to support the

[33:05] synagogue in other words his faith

[33:07] wasn't just words his faith was action

[33:10] he wasn't greedy or selfish when he saw

[33:12] a need he wanted to give much alms is

[33:15] the word it says in verse number two

[33:17] that he prayed to God always he prayed

[33:22] to God always think of that so much

[33:27] prayer

[33:28] was going up by Cornelius that according

[33:30] to verse number four an angel came God

[33:34] sent an angel to say to this man of

[33:37] prayer Cornelius God's been listening to

[33:41] your

[33:43] prayers now it would make sense to most

[33:46] of the people in the world that any man

[33:50] who lived a life like Cornelius is

[33:53] obviously

[33:54] living any man who did what Cornelius

[33:57] did any any man who was devout as

[33:59] Cornelius was any man who seemed to be

[34:02] that close to God no one would say now

[34:05] man that guy's that guy's

[34:10] man that guy's on his way to heaven look

[34:12] at the way he lives after all what more

[34:15] could a person do how much more

[34:17] religious could a person possibly

[34:21] be and when you think about

[34:24] it Cornelius was not unlike most people

[34:27] people who attend church all over the

[34:32] city this city Oklahoma City uh the

[34:35] Bible Belt region of our country because

[34:38] there are in churches today as we speak

[34:42] many devout and serious

[34:45] people people who are devout people who

[34:49] are serious about their beliefs people

[34:51] who wouldn't think of missing Church

[34:54] there's people who fear God there's

[34:56] people who wouldn't think about

[34:58] living in such a way to be disrespectful

[35:00] to God or taking God's name in vain or

[35:03] showing disrespect to God or to his

[35:05] house there are people who live their

[35:07] lives like that there are people all

[35:10] over the country who are concerned about

[35:12] their families and they want their

[35:14] families to go the right direction and

[35:16] many want their families to go to church

[35:18] and even though they may not come to

[35:19] church they want their children to come

[35:21] to

[35:23] church we would even know people who may

[35:26] give

[35:27] may give money they may put money in the

[35:30] offering plate they may give to charity

[35:32] there may be even people who would say

[35:34] that they tithe there are people all

[35:36] over who

[35:38] pray they pray and they believe God

[35:40] hears their prayers and they may even

[35:43] fast as it says he

[35:47] fasted if all of us think of this if all

[35:50] of us just right here in this room who

[35:51] know Christ who genuinely know Christ

[35:54] members of this church and churches like

[35:57] this I wonder what a difference it would

[35:59] make in churches and this church

[36:03] churches around the country if we were

[36:05] more like

[36:07] Cornelius if we were more like a man who

[36:09] yet hasn't met Christ if we were just

[36:12] more like Cornelius would it not make a

[36:15] difference if all the members of this

[36:18] church if all the members of Bible

[36:20] Baptist in El Reno were as devout as

[36:24] Cornelius if church was more than just

[36:27] let's be honest if church was just more

[36:30] than something we do on

[36:32] Sunday because we wouldn't think of

[36:34] doing anything else what would people

[36:36] say if I didn't show

[36:39] up or maybe if we didn't have something

[36:42] better to do if all the members feared

[36:45] God so

[36:47] much they wouldn't think of skipping

[36:49] Church to watch a ball game they

[36:52] wouldn't think of missing Church to take

[36:54] their kids somewhere or just maybe stay

[36:56] home to relax

[36:58] I wonder it I wonder I wonder if this

[37:01] facility right here that we're in would

[37:03] be too

[37:04] small if all the members were as devout

[37:08] as

[37:11] Cornelius I wonder if all the members of

[37:13] this church and churches like this all

[37:15] over were as serious about their

[37:18] families and the spiritual well-being of

[37:21] their

[37:22] families I wonder if what changes would

[37:25] take place right here

[37:28] certainly certainly hey if you're that

[37:30] concerned about your family as Cornelius

[37:32] was you don't you don't have a

[37:34] conversation that goes like this uh dad

[37:36] I got

[37:37] a I've been I'm old I've been around a

[37:40] long time I work with teenagers for many

[37:42] many years I know how this

[37:44] goes well he's got a ball game if I

[37:48] heard this one time I've heard it eight

[37:50] million times well he's got a ball game

[37:52] so we're going to miss church Cornelius

[37:55] wouldn't have done that well he's got to

[37:57] go to his bowling tourn whatever uh she

[38:01] got to go ice skate and he's got to go

[38:03] travel all over the world so he can play

[38:05] softball you got so we're not going to

[38:07] be in church for a while but you know we

[38:08] love God really I don't think Cornelius

[38:10] would ever LED his family that

[38:13] way if all the

[38:16] members of this church and other

[38:18] churches were as giving as Cornelius I

[38:21] wonder if it'd make a

[38:24] difference you know what statistics tell

[38:26] us

[38:28] 20% of the members of churches like this

[38:33] 20% tithe on a regular basis

[38:38] 20% Which really you can only tithe on a

[38:41] regular

[38:43] basis in fact if this is like most

[38:47] churches when the preacher starts

[38:49] talking about

[38:50] money that's when it gets real quiet

[38:53] like right now he's talking about money

[38:58] or my father-in-law used to say

[38:59] something like this every time I go to

[39:01] Walmart that's all they talk about is

[39:02] money while we're

[39:04] there I wonder if it'd make a difference

[39:07] if we were as all as giving as

[39:10] Cornelius there'd be no need for special

[39:12] offerings because there'd be a surplus

[39:14] of offerings there'd be no mortgage

[39:15] payments there'd be no debt there'd be

[39:17] no cutting back there'd be no pleading

[39:19] because there are there'd be way way

[39:22] more money than we could possibly use if

[39:24] we were like Cornelius

[39:28] no

[39:29] doubt being a Cornelius Christian let's

[39:32] call it that would change a complexion

[39:36] complexion of this or any other church

[39:40] and maybe those of us who know Christ

[39:43] every now and then should take a step

[39:45] back and say in our own life am I as

[39:49] serious about my faith as a

[39:53] man as cor like Cornelius was about his

[39:59] why is it that true believers in Christ

[40:02] sometimes aren't as serious as those who

[40:05] don't know the

[40:08] Lord hey watch the

[40:11] news have you ever watch the news and

[40:14] see what someone who believes in Islam

[40:17] will do they're

[40:19] serious have you do you know anything

[40:21] about Mormonism or Jehovah's Witness

[40:25] they're serious about it

[40:28] and they don't even know Jesus but

[40:31] they're serious about their

[40:33] faith and I think sometimes True

[40:35] Believers have allowed the world and the

[40:38] pole of this world to shape our thinking

[40:40] and our priorities and we know we're

[40:43] saved and we know we we're on our way to

[40:45] heaven so we don't put the same kind of

[40:47] effort into our religion That Others

[40:51] May in other words our love for the

[40:54] world is sometimes stronger than our

[40:56] love for God

[40:57] Cornelius not

[41:00] so all that about

[41:02] Cornelius from the outside everyone of

[41:05] us would have said he is a good man he

[41:07] would be a great church

[41:09] member but he was

[41:12] lost he was devout about the things of

[41:16] God he loved God he loved the things of

[41:18] God he prayed to

[41:19] God yet he didn't truly know

[41:24] God now since we don't know each other

[41:26] well

[41:28] I and so I can just talk

[41:31] freely you could be in here this morning

[41:33] and be a member of this church for a

[41:35] long

[41:36] time and I I remember when Haron sh was

[41:39] the pastor of this church that a long

[41:42] time

[41:43] ago and I remember of course brother

[41:45] ostein I've known him for many many

[41:48] years and of course your pastor brother

[41:50] Adam known him for a good long time and

[41:52] you could have been here for since this

[41:55] church was built since

[41:57] uh since brother John built this church

[42:00] built this building and all that and you

[42:03] could be a family man or a family woman

[42:06] or love God and and maybe every

[42:08] Christmas even get a fuzzy

[42:10] feeling and you can go to church and

[42:12] maybe be generous and you may pray and

[42:14] on the outside everyone would look at

[42:16] you and say that person man they're a

[42:18] great church member that person they

[42:20] sure are devout that person this that

[42:23] person that but listen God sees what we

[42:26] can't see

[42:29] God sees the heart and while all these

[42:31] things are good hey i' take church

[42:34] members like that all those things are

[42:36] good on the outside guess what none of

[42:38] them get anyone to Heaven because you

[42:42] can go to church every day I'm just

[42:45] thinking about it I I was born in an

[42:48] independent Baptist Church and so that's

[42:51] all I know I never miss church I bet if

[42:54] Sam if we started counting how many

[42:56] times uh her and I her her dad was my

[43:01] pastor uh when I was growing up and uh

[43:05] so she knows about being in church all

[43:07] her life I can't count on my

[43:10] hand a few times that that I've miss

[43:13] church just for no good

[43:17] reason and you could do that every

[43:20] day and you can go to church all the

[43:22] time and you go to church every time the

[43:24] as we say Baptist preachers say every

[43:26] time the doors are

[43:28] open and not go to

[43:30] heaven and you could get baptized you

[43:32] got a Baptist tree wow you could get

[43:34] baptized till you're a

[43:36] prune and not go to heaven and you could

[43:39] be a devout as Cornelius and Miss heaven

[43:42] and you could be moral and honest and

[43:45] kind and giving and Miss heaven and you

[43:48] could

[43:49] pray and fast and Miss heaven and you

[43:53] could be the most religious person not

[43:55] just the most religious person in this

[43:57] room the most religious person in the

[43:59] world and still miss heaven and let me

[44:04] quote John R

[44:05] rice he said this multitudes of people

[44:09] who expect to go to heaven will go to

[44:13] hell a hell of Torment thousands of good

[44:18] people moral people church members even

[44:21] Church workers yes and alas even

[44:24] prophets priests and preachers will find

[44:27] themselves lost when they expected to be

[44:30] saved condemned when they expected

[44:32] approval cast out of heaven when they

[44:34] expected to be received into Eternal

[44:38] Bliss and since we don't know each other

[44:41] I just put this out there none of the

[44:43] good things that we think associate us

[44:45] with being a good believer make us bit

[44:48] for heaven Cornelius had them all he

[44:52] didn't have

[44:54] Jesus well the plot changes to Peter

[44:58] and if you follow me in chapter 10

[45:01] starting at verse number

[45:03] nine because we got two men in this

[45:05] story we got Cornelius and then we got

[45:07] Peter the Peter that we all know so

[45:10] chapter number

[45:11] 10 starting in verse number nine here's

[45:14] Peter's Dilemma on the tomorrow as they

[45:17] went on their journey and Drew nigh into

[45:19] the city

[45:21] Peter went up upon the Housetop to pray

[45:23] about the sixth

[45:25] hour and he became very very hungry and

[45:28] would have eaten but while they made

[45:31] ready in other words they're preparing

[45:33] the meal he fell into a

[45:36] trance and saw heaven

[45:39] opened and a certain

[45:42] vessel descending unto him as it had

[45:44] been a great sheet knit at the Four

[45:47] Corners and let down to the Earth can

[45:49] you picture what he's seeing this big

[45:52] this giant sheet coming down and listen

[45:55] what it says in verse 12 wherein were

[45:57] all manner of four-footed beasts of the

[45:59] earth and wild beasts and creeping

[46:01] things and fouls of the air just full of

[46:05] animals and there came a voice to him

[46:08] which we assume is from God obviously

[46:10] and it's the voice says Rise Peter kill

[46:13] and

[46:15] eat well I already told you a minute ago

[46:17] what Jews do and don't do

[46:20] right Peter said not so

[46:24] [Music]

[46:25] Lord only Peter Peter would talk to God

[46:28] like that Peter had his way with words

[46:31] didn't he for I have never eaten

[46:34] anything that is common or

[46:37] unclean he said I ain't going to do it

[46:40] because I'm a Jew and I live by the

[46:42] Jewish

[46:44] codes and the voice spake unto him again

[46:47] the second time and listen to what the

[46:49] voice says what God

[46:53] or uh what God hath cleansed that c all

[46:57] not thou

[47:01] common so before Peter knew anything

[47:03] about Cornelius they haven't met yet he

[47:05] hasn't heard his name God began to

[47:08] prepare him for this event that's about

[47:10] to take place it is going to change it's

[47:13] going to change Cornelius it's going to

[47:15] change Peter and as a result it's going

[47:17] to really change the world forever and

[47:20] so Peter falls into this trance and God

[47:22] gives him this Vision now if you ever

[47:26] have one of these it's from too much

[47:28] pizza okay we don't we don't get those

[47:31] now but he this is how God was

[47:33] communicating with his servant at that

[47:35] time and this Mighty sheep comes down

[47:37] from heaven and all these animals some

[47:40] are clean uh in the according to Jewish

[47:42] law and some are unclean and so he hears

[47:45] this voice from Heaven and the voice

[47:47] says all right Peter pick pick an animal

[47:50] and and and eat it now you know that

[47:52] Peter lived according to the Jewish law

[47:54] and the Jewish tradition and the ritual

[47:56] that's all in the Old Testament and the

[47:58] guidelines were very clear that there's

[48:01] unclean and there's clean and you don't

[48:04] need unclean beasts no matter what they

[48:06] may be or how they may taste and even if

[48:08] they're bacon which man that's makes it

[48:10] hard right there no bacon in other words

[48:13] he was kosher that's the word we use he

[48:17] never thought in his whole life I'll

[48:18] never eat anything

[48:20] unclean and just the thought of it the

[48:24] thought was enough for him to say no

[48:26] Lord

[48:28] no I'm not going to do that just sounds

[48:31] like Peter doesn't it no way three times

[48:34] God shows him this same vision and then

[48:37] in ch in verse number 15 as we read

[48:40] God's final word on this little

[48:43] illustration he was giving was this if

[48:46] I've cleansed something then it's

[48:49] clean don't call unclean what I'm

[48:52] calling

[48:53] clean now you and I know there was more

[48:56] to Peter's vision than

[48:58] animals God is showing him something far

[49:01] more important and that's

[49:03] this Peter here's here's here's here's

[49:07] what I'm showing you here's the change

[49:09] now this is going to change the world

[49:11] from now on Peter there's no there's no

[49:15] clean and unclean

[49:18] people from now on Peter it doesn't

[49:20] matter if you're a Jew or a

[49:23] gentile Peter all men

[49:27] can come to

[49:29] me anybody he's saying anybody can be

[49:33] saved that's the illustration Peter's

[49:36] getting it now you have probably found

[49:40] yourself in the same kind of dilemma

[49:42] Peter has had because you have probably

[49:44] again we look on the outside right

[49:46] haven't you ever looked on the outside

[49:48] of somebody and said in your heart or in

[49:51] your mind that person can't get

[49:54] saved don't act like you have

[49:57] we all have done it you've looked at

[50:00] somebody who and you just judged them

[50:04] that fast on the outside and you said to

[50:06] yourself they're too

[50:09] lost they've gone too far that person

[50:13] can't be

[50:14] saved and we begin to think like Peter

[50:17] was thinking not so Lord not him not my

[50:21] neighbor Lord if you knew my neighbor

[50:23] you would know he could never be saved

[50:26] not that person not that person that I

[50:29] work with it's very ungodly not that

[50:31] girl not that sinner not that drug

[50:33] abuser not that person who stands on the

[50:36] corner they can't be saved in other

[50:38] words Peter was the word we would use is

[50:41] prejudiced he thought salvation was only

[50:44] for a a a narrow group of people who

[50:48] look like him and believed like him who

[50:52] were

[50:53] Jews and then we get down to verse

[50:55] number 28 and all all of a sudden he

[50:57] understands God showed me something

[50:59] different

[51:01] now has God ever showed you anyone that

[51:04] person maybe you work

[51:06] with they're vile they're ungodly they

[51:10] curse they're immoral they

[51:12] Wicked maybe God is showing you that

[51:15] person that relative that doesn't want

[51:18] to hear you talk about church one more

[51:20] time he don't want to hear you say

[51:23] anything about Jesus maybe God is

[51:26] showing you you that person and that

[51:28] person maybe who lives in a in a part of

[51:30] the city that we would say is is uh on

[51:33] the other side of the track and they

[51:35] don't have the nice clothes that you

[51:37] have and maybe they don't have the

[51:38] advantages that we've had or that you've

[51:40] had or they don't have the money

[51:42] obviously maybe God is showing you that

[51:45] person that person can be

[51:48] saved or do we sometimes get this

[51:51] idea you know that offer that Jesus gave

[51:54] for whosoever you know whosoever that

[51:58] offer that he gave of Salvation it's

[52:00] only for certain people people who look

[52:04] like me people who live like me people

[52:08] who are like me that's what Peter

[52:11] thought and maybe God is wanting to show

[52:14] all of us something good moral people

[52:17] need to be saved church members need to

[52:20] be saved Wicked people and sinful people

[52:23] not only do they need to be saved they

[52:25] can be saved

[52:28] few couple months ago I stood at the

[52:31] hospital bed of a guy named Joe who was

[52:35] a retired Oklahoma City police officer I

[52:38] have such respect for our police

[52:40] officers and what they do and here's a

[52:43] man been retired for a good while and he

[52:45] was he's 88 years old

[52:49] 88 I said his his daughter had reached

[52:53] out to the chaplain's office ask if a

[52:56] chap could go see and so there I am

[52:58] standing at his bed up at the hospital

[53:01] standing there after he'd suffered a

[53:02] couple Strokes Joe do you are you ready

[53:06] to die are you GNA die

[53:10] soon well I've tried to be a good

[53:13] cop try to do good well no doubt he did

[53:18] no doubt he was a good cop and he was a

[53:20] good man and he seemed like a very

[53:22] humble moral person but I said Joe you

[53:26] have have to know Jesus to go to heaven

[53:28] and right there in the hospital room I

[53:30] got to pray with Joe as he reached out

[53:32] to Jesus for salvation because good cops

[53:35] need to be saved and last week I got to

[53:38] preach at Lexington prison and all those

[53:41] men who s who St who sat before me in

[53:44] orange jumpsuits guess what they needed

[53:46] to go down the same path of Salvation

[53:48] that Joe needed to go

[53:53] down the gospel isn't just for a s group

[53:56] of

[53:57] people who look right or act right or

[54:00] believe right and Peter is being shown

[54:03] by God listen Peter all men can be

[54:07] saved and so then Peter makes his way to

[54:10] Cornelius and he comes before Cornelius

[54:12] as we read and can you imagine what was

[54:15] preached can you guess what was preached

[54:18] to Cornelius by Peter he didn't say well

[54:21] Cornelius you're doing okay just keep

[54:22] doing what you're doing just keep going

[54:25] down the path you're doing everything's

[54:27] fine no he didn't say hey follow the

[54:30] Commandments now be circumcised follow

[54:33] this code or this religious code no

[54:35] according to verse number 43 he's

[54:38] preached unto him Jesus and look what it

[54:40] says in verse number 43 through his name

[54:45] whosoever believeth in him shall receive

[54:48] remission of sins that's what he

[54:50] preached to

[54:52] Cornelius and if you don't know

[54:55] Jesus if you have no peace in your heart

[54:58] that your sins are forgiven and you have

[55:00] a home in heaven hey I'm not here to

[55:02] tell you to be

[55:04] good try to be good try to be better try

[55:07] to live try to be a good cop as Joe said

[55:11] or to follow the 10 commandments or join

[55:13] this church or be a Baptist or get

[55:15] baptized none of those things I'm here

[55:17] to tell you the very same thing that

[55:19] Peter toward Co Peter told Cornelius and

[55:22] that says whosoever believeth in him

[55:25] shall receive the remission of sins

[55:29] whosoever it's the first time this is

[55:32] becoming real you don't have to be a Jew

[55:36] Gentiles can believe and black people

[55:39] and white people and brown people can

[55:41] believe and good people and wicked

[55:43] people whosoever they can believe in

[55:45] religious people or anti-religious

[55:47] people or rich people or poor people in

[55:50] other words everyone in

[55:53] oino everyone in Oklahoma City and

[55:55] everyone in Oklahoma and everyone in the

[55:57] world and that includes you he said

[56:00] whosoever can be

[56:05] saved Peter's dilemma is

[56:08] solved he's getting something brand new

[56:11] anybody can be saved he preached

[56:16] Jesus and God made a decree we know what

[56:19] the decree is as he said it in verse

[56:22] number 15 who what God hath cleansed

[56:27] let that person not be considered common

[56:30] there's no difference between Jew and

[56:32] Gentile the The Mystery of the New

[56:34] Testament Church which they didn't

[56:37] understand and it's just now becoming

[56:39] real to them is that Jews and Gentiles

[56:41] are together God's not a respector of

[56:45] persons and Cornelius was this man and

[56:49] God gave him light and Cornelius

[56:52] responded to that light and now God sent

[56:54] Peter to give him more light Cornel

[56:56] elius responded to that and now he has a

[56:58] saving knowledge of

[57:01] Christ but if Cornelius had heard those

[57:04] words from

[57:06] Peter and just said that's all right I'm

[57:08] doing okay I'm just going to keep go

[57:09] doing what I'm doing I'm going to be

[57:11] devout and I'm going to pray and I'm

[57:12] going to fast and I'm going to be good

[57:14] and on the outside everything's going to

[57:15] be right can I tell

[57:17] you God's decree would have been

[57:19] something

[57:21] different as you know on the sermon of

[57:23] the mount Jesus gave us a glimp glimpse

[57:26] into the

[57:27] future and he talked about what will

[57:30] happen one place Jesus said at that day

[57:33] and the dead small and great are going

[57:35] to stand before

[57:37] him and and some are going to make their

[57:39] case and they're going to say this

[57:41] listen to what some people are going to

[57:42] say they're going to say Lord Lord have

[57:44] we not prophesied in thy name in thy

[57:47] name have we not cast out devils in thy

[57:49] name have we not done wonderful

[57:52] Works they're going they're going to say

[57:54] we're just like Cornelius we're good

[57:56] we've done great things in your

[57:59] name and Jesus decree at that point is

[58:04] this I never knew

[58:06] you depart from

[58:09] me because it's not what you are on the

[58:11] outside it's not the Miracles that you

[58:13] might perform it's not all the good

[58:14] things you could possibly do it's not

[58:16] all the religious activity you may go

[58:18] through good works righteousness baptism

[58:21] church membership none of that it's

[58:23] about knowing him

[58:27] now think of one of the most infamous

[58:29] characters in The

[58:31] Bible

[58:33] Judas even today to this day the word

[58:38] Judas would not we use synonymous with

[58:43] betrayal treachery we would say that

[58:46] person is a Judas we would still to this

[58:48] day use his name to describe that type

[58:52] of

[58:53] activity but did you know the disciples

[58:55] didn't think of him that

[58:57] way in fact the disciples viewed him

[59:00] with no suspicion

[59:02] whatsoever and even after the events in

[59:05] the upper room and you know the story

[59:07] how that Judas left early and and and

[59:10] this Cloud we would think this cloud of

[59:13] Suspicion would have followed him it did

[59:15] not no one doubted Judas no one doubted

[59:18] his sincerity no one dreamed that Judas

[59:22] evidently had his hand in the in the

[59:24] money bag from the outside Judas was one

[59:27] of the good guys if you read the New

[59:29] Testament you'll find that Judas was

[59:31] preaching along with the other disciples

[59:34] Judas was following Jesus Judas was a

[59:37] cheerleader to Jesus he was

[59:39] shoulder-to-shoulder to the rest of the

[59:41] disciples so evidently the outside

[59:43] doesn't always reflect about the inside

[59:46] doesn't so the

[59:49] question I have to ask all of you is do

[59:52] you know

[59:54] him I didn't ask you how good you were

[59:57] or how religious or how good of a church

[59:59] member or how long you've been a member

[60:02] how many times you've been to baptize

[60:04] how many good things you may do every

[60:06] week how much you even give or how you

[60:08] look on the outside question is do you

[60:11] know him because even Cornelius as good

[60:13] as he seemed to be needed to be born

[60:17] again and all those good things would

[60:20] never have gotten him into heaven and

[60:22] you could be the best church member that

[60:24] Bible Baptist eleno has ever had and

[60:28] Miss

[60:30] heaven and maybe in your

[60:33] world you think there's someone that you

[60:35] know that just that person they could

[60:39] never be saved they're too

[60:41] Wicked they're too set on their

[60:44] ways they're too anti- this they're too

[60:48] far

[60:49] gone they're wearing an orange

[60:52] jumpsuit they're standing in the corner

[60:54] holding a sign

[60:56] that person they just could not be saved

[61:01] well don't look on the

[61:04] outside don't look on the outside don't

[61:07] be put off why way what you see on the

[61:10] outside because you never know what God

[61:12] might be doing in the heart of

[61:15] somebody you don't know how much they

[61:17] may really yearn for

[61:19] peace God may be showing you someone

[61:22] someone who needs him one of the

[61:24] whosoever's one of the whosoever that

[61:26] you work with or that you live with or

[61:28] that you go to school with or that you

[61:30] know one of your relatives one of the

[61:32] whosoever maybe God has shown them to

[61:35] you a new God I've been looking on the

[61:38] outside and I'm put off by the

[61:41] outside but God I know you see the heart

[61:44] they need you as much as the nice person

[61:47] the religious person and the happy

[61:51] person so before we have invitation I

[61:53] just leave you with this do you know

[61:56] know him not are you religious not are

[61:58] you a good church member none of those

[62:00] things do you know

[62:02] Christ and do you know someone who needs

[62:06] him maybe you because their outside is

[62:09] so abrasive and prickly you've avoided

[62:13] them let me encourage you what God Said

[62:16] in verse 15 what God hath cleansed thou

[62:20] call not

[62:22] Comm would you bow with me

[62:26] every head

[62:28] bowed i' like to ask you a question

[62:30] before I have a time of invitation how
