[0:03] These young Americans

[0:05] sent a message to terrorists everywhere.

[0:08] A message you can run but you can't

[0:11] hide. I almost felt like standing up and

[0:14] cheering for President Reagan. He's done

[0:16] something.

[0:18] A plane today on the ground of a NATO

[0:20] base in Italy, symbol finally of US

[0:23] can-do, will-do. Symbol of poetic

[0:26] justice. Hijackers intercepted by US

[0:29] jets and forced to land here so they

[0:31] will finally face the justice of a jury.

[0:34] Good evening. This is the CBS Evening

[0:36] News, Dan Rather reporting. What a

[0:37] difference a day makes. An amazing,

[0:39] daring US intercept of the plane bearing

[0:42] four men accused of hijacking the

[0:44] Achille Lauro. Tonight, instead of safe

[0:47] passage from Egypt and out of range of

[0:49] justice, they are in Italy and charged

[0:52] with murder, hijack and other charges,

[0:54] courtesy US Navy jet pilots. Whatever an

[0:57] Italian jury may decide, the United

[0:59] States still wants them tried here,

[1:01] separately. Another surprise development

[1:03] today, President Reagan announced that

[1:05] he has had more skin cancer cells

[1:08] removed from his face but says he is

[1:10] fine. More about that later. Leslie

[1:12] Stahl at the White House and Richard

[1:13] Roth in Rome begin our coverage of the

[1:15] day the US took terror, captured it and

[1:18] cut it down to size.

[1:21] At the White House, aides called it

[1:23] hitting the jackpot in Sicily, the best

[1:25] two days the President has had in a long

[1:27] time. Mr. Reagan spoke about the

[1:29] soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines

[1:32] who were deployed.
