[0:05] Iraq's foreign minister goes home with a

[0:07] gobber peace proposal. Two US warships

[0:11] hit by mines and American fighting

[0:13] forces are reported good to go.

[0:18] This [music] is the CBS Evening News.

[0:20] Dan Rather reporting live from Dharan,

[0:23] Saudi Arabia. Good evening. With

[0:25] American and Allied forces coiled and

[0:27] ready to spring now into a ground war,

[0:29] Mikail Gobchoff has sprung a peace

[0:32] offensive. Whether it will delay or

[0:34] deter President Bush's determination to

[0:37] smash Saddam Hussein's army is the

[1:14] this stage it is time to tell him that

[1:17] uh not he personally maybe will survive

[1:19] but his regime or his administration

[1:22] will survive.

[1:23] >> Gorbachev got down to business quickly

[1:25] this morning ordering the Kremlin

[1:27] meeting room closed at precisely 11:00

[1:32] and over the next 3 hours as [music] the

[1:33] Kremlin guard changed three times he

[1:36] laid out his plan. Afterwards, Aziz

[1:39] would not talk about details, but he was

[1:41] clearly interested.

[1:42] >> Well, I cannot elaborate no
