[0:04] That's some bad hat, Harry.

[0:12] >> Tonight is wireless internet worth the

[0:14] risk?

[0:15] >> With a little

[0:16] work, it doesn't take too much.

[0:17] >> The Fox 12 investigators show you how

[0:19] easy it is for cyber thieves to steal

[0:21] your personal information over a

[0:23] wireless connection.

[0:25] Outrage over O.J. Hear why Fox is

[0:28] pulling the plug on the interview and

[0:30] the book.

[0:31] The weather could put a serious dent in

[0:33] your Thanksgiving Day travel plans. So,

[0:35] we've got your first live local weather

[0:37] forecast before you hit the road. But

[0:39] first, a Boy Scout leader busted [music]

[0:42] in a cyber sting.

[0:43] >> Like Christmas time when they sell the

[0:45] wreaths, he's always out there helping

[0:47] them helping the boys deliver them.

[0:50] He's just always involved.

[0:51] >> Tonight, neighbors react to the shocking

[0:53] list of charges he is facing. First on

[0:56] Fox.

[0:57] >> Good evening. Thanks for joining us. I'm

[0:58] Wayne Garcia.

[0:59] >> And I'm Shauna

[1:00] >> Parsons. First on Fox tonight, a local

[1:01] Boy Scout leader is accused of trying to

[1:03] have sex with a teenage girl. Federal

[1:05] investigators say James Reyes targeted

[1:07] the girl who was a distant relative not

[1:09] once, but twice. But this time, agents

[1:12] say his online chats put him behind

[1:14] bars. KPTV's Kevin Corraro was in court

[1:16] today as Reyes faced a judge for the

[1:18] first time and he joins us live from the

[1:19] Portland International Airport with

[1:21] more. Kevin.

[1:22] >> Well, 5 years ago, prosecutors believe

[1:23] Reyes inappropriately touched the

[1:25] 15-year-old girl, but it wasn't until

[1:27] now that authorities got involved. In

[1:29] fact, they say Reyes bought her a plane

[1:30] ticket and thought he was going to meet

[1:31] the girl here at PDX. Instead, he met

[1:34] federal agents and Fox 12 has obtained

[1:36] the explicit chats being used as

[1:38] evidence in this case.

[1:41] Neighbors say it's been home to a

[1:42] tight-knit, upstanding family for years,

[1:45] but tonight this Washington County house

[1:46] is at the center of an internet sex

[1:48] investigation.

[1:49] >> I can't believe that. I really can't.

[1:51] >> Gary Chandler lives right across the

[1:53] street. Tonight, his neighbor, James

[1:55] Reyes, a father and assistant

[1:57] scoutmaster, is facing a long list of

[1:59] charges.

[2:01] Immigration and Customs Enforcement

[2:02] agents say Reyes contacted a distant

[2:04] relative who he had sexually abused

[2:06] years ago and tried to start up another

[2:09] inappropriate relationship with her. The

[2:11] teen's father found out and called

[2:13] police. ICE agents went undercover

[2:15] online and say Reyes had a series of

[2:17] email conversations with who he thought

[2:19] was that girl. Most of it is too

[2:21] explicit to share with you, but this is

[2:23] part of a chat Reyes is accused of

[2:25] writing.

[2:26] "I would love to snuggle with you, kiss

[2:28] you until you can't stand it anymore.

[2:30] Yes, even make love to you if you would

[2:32] like that." He continued with a warning.

[2:36] "All it takes is for someone to say we

[2:37] had sex and bam, off to jail I go. You

[2:40] were under 16." And ICE agents say it

[2:43] went even further. They claim Reyes sent

[2:45] naked pictures of himself and emailed

[2:47] child pornography. They also say Reyes

[2:50] arranged to fly the girl out to meet

[2:52] him. "Can you send me the ticket or some

[2:53] cash?" "I could book the ticket

[2:55] electronically and send it to your email

[2:57] account, then you print it out and go to

[2:59] the airport." Prosecutors say Reyes

[3:01] bought the ticket and was arrested when

[3:03] he went to meet the girl at PDX. Despite

[3:06] the details of the case, neighbors we

[3:08] talked to were still standing by James

[3:10] Reyes.

[3:11] >> Totally a family person.

[3:13] He believes in the Boy Scouts. He's a

[3:14] leader of the Boy Scouts.

[3:15] >> The federal [snorts] government says

[3:16] they have this case against the guy and

[3:18] that they have all this evidence.

[3:20] >> I I still don't believe it.

[3:23] >> Now, I did talk with Boy Scouts

[3:24] officials tonight and they tell me that

[3:26] Reyes did serve with the Cub Scouts. He

[3:28] volunteered for the Cub Scouts and Boy

[3:30] Scouts for several years and they tell

[3:32] us they had never heard a complaint

[3:33] about him. They say he's been removed

[3:35] from his role as assistant scoutmaster

[3:37] and Reyes is expected back in federal

[3:39] court later on this week. Reporting live

[3:42] at Portland International Airport

[3:43] tonight, Kevin Cuenca, the 10:00 news.

[3:47] Tonight's Fox 12's Most Wanted is a

[3:48] robber with a unique description. The

[3:50] man is accused of robbing the Lacamas

[3:52] Credit Union in Vancouver this morning.

[3:53] He took money after showing a note to a

[3:55] teller. He's described as being white

[3:57] about 5'8" and he was wearing a teal

[4:00] jacket, tan pants, a black stocking hat,

[4:02] and a plaid scarf. And here's something

[4:04] that you would notice, he was wearing a

[4:06] band-aid over his nose. If you know

[4:08] anything about that robbery, please call

[4:10] the FBI. Portland police are also trying

[4:12] to find two of Fox 12's most wanted

[4:14] tonight. You can see them here in a

[4:15] smash and grab burglary inside a local

[4:17] pawn shop. They used a tire iron to

[4:20] break the glass cases and steal

[4:21] thousands of dollars in jewels. Coming

[4:23] up new tonight at 11:00, see what kind

[4:26] of incentive cops are now offering to

[4:28] try to help catch these robbers.

[4:32] >> Fox 12 is on Meth Watch tonight as an

[4:34] investigation in northeast Oregon leads

[4:36] to a bust. Police say Eric Pearson,

[4:38] Bryce Lane of Baker City, and Kenneth

[4:40] Sycard of Boardman wanted to buy

[4:42] pseudoephedrine to make meth. When

[4:44] police arrested Sycard, they say he had

[4:45] nearly 500 g of pseudoephedrine.

[4:48] Tonight, all three men are in county

[4:50] jails.

[4:50] >> A woman hit while walking down the

[4:52] street is at the hospital tonight in

[4:54] critical condition. That accident at

[4:55] Southeast Stevens and Sunnyside was

[4:57] breaking news right here on Fox 12 last

[4:59] night. Police say Sergio Garcia Castro

[5:01] hit a woman in the van he was driving.

[5:04] And this is video of him in court today.

[5:06] Investigators say that 5 minutes after

[5:07] the accident, Garcia Castro tried to

[5:10] run, crashing into another car head-on.

[5:12] Garcia Castro is now facing charges of

[5:15] assault and DUII.

[5:17] >> With busy drivers and lots of

[5:18] distractions, sometimes it can feel like

[5:20] you're taking your life into your hands

[5:22] just trying to cross the street in

[5:23] downtown Portland. But tonight, the

[5:25] city's taking a new approach to make

[5:26] crosswalks safer. KPTV's Dave Wilson is

[5:29] live in northwest Portland to show you

[5:30] how. Dave?

[5:31] >> Well, most of us know that northwest

[5:32] 23rd is a very busy street, lots of

[5:34] cars, a lots of people walking. So, as

[5:36] kind of a test, the city recently

[5:38] installed this sign in the middle of the

[5:40] street, in the middle of the crosswalk

[5:42] actually, at northwest 23rd and

[5:44] Marshall. Officials want to remind

[5:46] drivers that they need to watch out for

[5:47] people in the street. Under Oregon law,

[5:50] drivers must stay uh stopped at

[5:52] crosswalks until pedestrians are

[5:53] completely across the street and out of

[5:55] the way, but drivers don't always do

[5:57] that, especially on busy streets like

[5:59] this one. In January, a driver hit a

[6:01] 66-year-old woman and her daughter just

[6:03] a few blocks away from here. The older

[6:05] woman died. The driver in that case said

[6:07] she couldn't see the lady crossing the

[6:09] street. We spoke with people tonight who

[6:11] say the signage is a great idea and will

[6:14] hopefully save lives.

[6:16] >> It would help out a lot. I mean,

[6:18] obviously, the color depicting the stop,

[6:21] and then obviously being right here next

[6:23] to Good Samaritan, it just makes sense.

[6:25] And being obviously right here next to

[6:26] the tram line and the bus line as well.

[6:29] Um be a great way to for people to get

[6:30] across easily.

[6:32] >> City has installed another one of these

[6:34] signs at Southeast 17th and Center

[6:35] Street. They cost about $240 a piece,

[6:38] and if they work, the city says they

[6:40] will buy more. We're live tonight

[6:42] Northwest Portland, David Wilson, the

[6:43] 10:00 news.

[6:45] >> Just in time for the upcoming holiday

[6:46] weekend, another storm is rolling in,

[6:49] and more people are expected to travel

[6:50] this year than ever before. So, with the

[6:52] changing weather, you may be changing

[6:54] your Thanksgiving Day plans. We have

[6:56] live team coverage tonight. Chief

[6:57] Meteorologist Mark Nelson has a look at

[6:59] what type of weather this storm will be

[7:00] bringing, but we begin with KPTV's

[7:02] Stephanie Kralevich and a warning.

[7:04] Steph?

[7:05] >> Well, if your holiday travel plans will

[7:07] take you across mountain passes this

[7:09] year, you'll want to either have

[7:10] traction tires or carry chains with you

[7:13] just in case. We spoke with many drivers

[7:15] who aren't taking any any chances.

[7:18] They're hitting the road early to avoid

[7:19] the winter weather.

[7:23] The mountain passes are clear tonight.

[7:25] >> I didn't see anything.

[7:26] >> But the forecast says soon they'll be

[7:28] covered in several inches of snow, just

[7:30] in time for one of the busiest travel

[7:32] days of the year, the Wednesday before

[7:35] Thanksgiving.

[7:36] >> Said it was just going to be a big front

[7:37] come in and 2 or 3 ft of snow, and

[7:40] >> You got a storm that's going to uh drop

[7:42] that much, you'd better have some chains

[7:44] or you better have a four-wheel drive or

[7:46] and you better

[7:48] have backup plans.

[7:49] >> I have an emergency kit and for the

[7:52] first time in my life I bought tire

[7:53] chains.

[7:54] >> Sharon Shafer changed her original

[7:56] Thanksgiving plans. She lives in Battle

[7:59] Ground but is going through Government

[8:00] Camp tonight on her way to pick up her

[8:02] grandchildren in Redmond.

[8:04] >> Because the weather was turning bad, I

[8:07] decided to pick them up tonight and then

[8:08] I don't have to go over any mountains.

[8:11] >> Triple A says this Thanksgiving weekend

[8:14] the roads will be busier than ever

[8:15] regardless of weather conditions and gas

[8:18] prices. More than 31 million Americans

[8:21] are expected to leave home for the

[8:23] holiday. That's up more than 2 and 1/2%

[8:25] over last year.

[8:27] >> You know, it's just not worth taking a

[8:28] chance.

[8:28] >> Gary Hickman says he's choosing to stay

[8:30] close to home this Thanksgiving because

[8:33] crossing the mountains is just too much

[8:35] of a risk. He hopes drivers planning

[8:37] trips across the Cascades take the

[8:39] forecast into account.

[8:41] >> On the west side of the mountains, it's

[8:43] pretty scary when you get people that

[8:45] haven't been in this snow and they don't

[8:46] know how to stop and they don't know how

[8:47] to drive and

[8:49] the crown of the road will take you in

[8:51] the ditch anytime.

[8:54] >> ODOT suggests carrying a winter driving

[8:56] emergency kit with you in your car that

[9:00] includes a flashlight with batteries, a

[9:02] first aid kit, food and water as well as

[9:04] jumper cables and flares. Reporting live

[9:06] in Troutdale tonight, Stephanie

[9:07] Krulwich, the 10:00 news.

[9:10] >> No matter where you're headed this

[9:10] holiday season, kptv.com has all the

[9:13] information you need and here's how to

[9:14] find it. First, you want to go to the

[9:15] weather page on kptv.com

[9:18] and about halfway down right below the

[9:19] picture of Mark Nelson, you'll see the

[9:21] link for Oregon statewide highway cams

[9:24] and this is what you'll get when you

[9:25] click the link. It's a map of the entire

[9:27] state of Oregon showing a lot of little

[9:29] camera icons and those represent all of

[9:30] the ODOT cameras across the state and if

[9:33] you click on one, you can see right

[9:34] there, it'll bring a live picture of

[9:36] what traffic is like in that area.

[9:38] Again, you'll find it all on kptv.com.

[9:40] Now, let's go over to the weather center

[9:41] and chief meteorologist Mark Nelson with

[9:43] tonight's first weather. Mark?

[9:44] >> Yeah, and the picture outside right now,

[9:45] at least downtown, things are all quiet

[9:47] down on our river camera, but on our

[9:49] radar just a few light showers beginning

[9:51] to show up. Take a look at the radar app

[9:52] this hour and you'll see just those

[9:54] showers right here in the metro area

[9:55] right around Hillsboro, very light

[9:57] stuff. What we are not seeing is any

[9:59] snow up in the Cascades right now. Now,

[10:01] that's going to change, but not for

[10:03] tonight. If you're headed over the

[10:03] Cascades, I'll say in the next 8 hours

[10:06] all the way up until the early morning

[10:07] hours, really no snow below 4,000 ft and

[10:10] Government Camp is just below that

[10:11] elevation, but look at this out to the

[10:12] west. Quite a bit of moisture out there,

[10:14] a lot of rain approaching, in fact, and

[10:16] we've also seen a few lightning strikes

[10:18] just out to the west. Watch right in

[10:19] this area.

[10:21] Lots of rain on the way. We'll let you

[10:22] know how much, how low that snow level

[10:24] is going to go, and we're only 2 in away

[10:26] from our November rainfall record, and I

[10:28] think we're going to break it. We'll let

[10:29] you know if there's any dry weather in

[10:30] that uh holiday forecast coming up.

[10:32] >> Okay, Mark, and you can expect more

[10:34] company than usual if you plan to fly on

[10:36] Thanksgiving Day. An airline analyst

[10:38] says there are more bookings for this

[10:40] Thanksgiving Day than for the last one.

[10:42] One possible reason for the increased

[10:43] bookings may be a Thanksgiving discount

[10:46] on Northwest Airlines. Northwest is

[10:48] offering its lowest fares of the year.

[10:50] Ticket prices in general are lower on

[10:52] Thanksgiving Day as opposed to the day

[10:54] before, which as you probably know is

[10:56] one of the busiest days of the year at

[10:58] the airport. If you plan on flying

[11:00] somewhere for Thanksgiving, you may get

[11:01] crammed into the dreaded middle seat. A

[11:04] recent survey shows that 85% of

[11:06] Americans would rather do any of the

[11:07] following than sit in the middle seat.

[11:09] You ready? 44% said that they would

[11:11] rather take a road trip with their

[11:13] mother-in-law.

[11:14] Almost 40% would rather give a speech in

[11:16] front of a large crowd. 35% would rather

[11:19] stand in line at the DMV. And 20% say

[11:22] that they would even prefer to call

[11:24] their significant other by an ex's name

[11:27] than sit in the middle seat. Now, a fast

[11:29] food chain is showing sympathy to middle

[11:31] seat passengers the day before

[11:32] Thanksgiving. Wendy's will be giving

[11:34] middle seaters a free gift card for the

[11:36] Wendy's in the Portland Airport. And

[11:39] keep watching Fox 12 for the very latest

[11:40] holiday travel information. We have

[11:42] updates in all of our newscasts and also

[15:13] live local really counts.

[15:18] >> Tonight, the controversial interview

[15:19] with O.J. Simpson will not air after

[15:21] all. Fox 12 made the decision to pull

[15:23] the program from our lineup and

[15:25] announced the news this morning during

[15:27] more Good Day Oregon.

[15:29] >> After careful consideration, Fox 12

[15:30] Oregon has determined that the

[15:32] programming does not serve the public

[15:33] interest and will not be shown.

[15:36] >> And tonight, national executives with

[15:38] the Fox network are following our lead.

[15:40] KPTV's Jamie Wilson joins us now live

[15:41] with more on that. Jamie?

[15:43] >> Well, the two-part special on O.J.

[15:46] Simpson was supposed to air next Monday

[15:48] and Wednesday, but today, following the

[15:50] lead of Fox 12 and the nation, the

[15:53] network has decided to cancel it. Some

[15:55] of our viewers are disappointed, but

[15:57] most say they are grateful.

[16:00] Just as we anxiously watched his murder

[16:02] trial 11 years ago, recently O.J.

[16:05] Simpson shocked us again. This time with

[16:07] the Fox network in tow. Simpson's new

[16:10] book, If I Did It, was supposed to hit

[16:12] stores just as a two-part interview

[16:15] aired on Fox, but plans have changed.

[16:18] After major backlash, Fox has pulled the

[16:20] plug on Simpson. Locals have mixed

[16:22] feelings.

[16:23] >> You have to just allow a person to

[16:25] express themselves, I think, but you

[16:28] have to maintain your right to discern

[16:30] and question

[16:32] what's really right.

[16:33] >> I don't know if I would I would consider

[16:35] it the wisest choice,

[16:38] but you know, it adds adds some comedy,

[16:40] I guess.

[16:41] >> Fine by me. I'd rather watch something

[16:42] else.

[16:43] >> Now, right from the beginning, we

[16:44] thought this

[16:46] really kind of smelled like

[16:48] poor taste.

[16:50] >> Fox 12 general manager Kieran Clark is

[16:52] relieved about the cancellation. Even

[16:54] before the network's announcement, Clark

[16:56] and his staff already decided not to air

[17:00] the Simpson special. He feels it would

[17:02] only conjure up painful images of

[17:04] violence and tragedy, and it is simply

[17:06] not newsworthy.

[17:08] >> From our perspective, we wanted

[17:11] much deeper journalistic credibility.

[17:14] And that's what we stand on, and in this

[17:16] case, we felt we could not.

[17:18] >> Our viewers agree. All day we've been

[17:21] getting emails supporting our decision.

[17:23] I just want to say, "Thank you for doing

[17:25] the right thing. Not many outlets can

[17:27] say that. And kudos to you for rejecting

[17:30] the airing of the extremely offensive

[17:33] idea of O.J. Simpson promoting his new

[17:35] book on a major TV network. We respect

[17:38] so very much your decision and feel it

[17:41] was the right decision." Clark had

[17:43] another concern, too. With NewsCorp

[17:46] owning Fox and Fox owning a stake in

[17:48] Simpson's publisher, Clark believes it

[17:51] could have turned into a commercial. He

[17:53] says viewers deserve more.

[17:55] >> We won't be a profit puppet for O.J.

[17:57] Simpson.

[17:59] >> And today NewsCorp executives also

[18:01] apologized if this has caused any pain

[18:04] for the families of Ron Goldman and

[18:06] Nicole Brown Simpson. Reporting live

[18:08] tonight, Jamie Wilson, the 10:00 news.

[18:12] >> And news from around the Northwest

[18:14] tonight, 10 train cars jumped off their

[18:16] tracks in Washington causing some

[18:17] problems for commuters. It happened near

[18:19] Everett. 10 cars derailed and one ended

[18:21] up in Puget Sound. Nobody was hurt and

[18:24] crews were checking out the tracks for

[18:25] damage. The derailment did block Amtrak

[18:27] and commuter trains headed for Seattle.

[18:30] Those commuters had to be bussed in.

[18:31] Workers hope to have one set of tracks

[18:33] open by sometime tomorrow morning.

[18:36] A woman who was rescued by helicopter

[18:38] today near Snoqualmie Pass is doing all

[18:40] right tonight. She was snowshoeing on

[18:42] Saturday when she got lost. A sheriff's

[18:44] helicopter crew spotted her waving

[18:46] today. As you can see from this video,

[18:48] they couldn't land the chopper, so a

[18:49] deputy jumped out while the helicopter

[18:52] just hovered about 10 ft over the woman.

[18:54] The deputy then attached a rope to her,

[18:56] and rescuers say that she would not have

[18:58] survived another night.

[19:00] A 12-year-old art prodigy from Idaho is

[19:03] turning her success into hope for

[19:04] children around the world. Akiane

[19:07] Kramarik started creating amazing works

[19:10] of art when she was just 9 years old.

[19:12] Prints of her paintings sell for a few

[19:13] thousand dollars and an original goes

[19:15] for more than 1 and a half million

[19:17] dollars. But she says that she wants to

[19:19] share her gift with others. So she plans

[19:21] to use the money her paintings earn to

[19:23] help needy children around the world.

[19:25] >> Tonight we're getting a rare look at

[19:26] what it's like on the streets of

[19:28] Afghanistan. Fox 12 has partnered with

[19:30] salemnews.com

[19:31] to send a local reporter overseas. For

[19:34] the next few days he will file reports

[19:35] through the internet to bring you

[19:36] stories from the front. KB

[19:39] uh Tim King rather reports tonight from

[19:41] the city of Bagram.

[19:42] >> On the ground in Bagram, Afghanistan, I

[19:44] was fortunate to catch a ride to Camp

[19:46] Phoenix in Kabul about 70 minutes away.

[19:49] This was my initial destination, the

[19:50] home of the 41st Combat Brigade of the

[19:52] US Army and home for now to many

[19:55] soldiers from the Oregon National Guard.

[19:57] For some reason the convoy has stopped

[20:00] due to whatever thing

[20:03] and you are read

[20:04] engage target.

[20:06] >> These soldiers were a mix of new

[20:07] arrivals and returning troops. Some had

[20:09] been on leave, others showing up for

[20:11] their second tour in Afghanistan. The

[20:13] trip to Camp Phoenix in Kabul over an

[20:14] extremely rough road, one considered to

[20:16] be among the better routes in this

[20:17] Islamic country. Reactions from the

[20:19] Afghan citizens who live along this road

[20:21] offered my first impression of the

[20:23] people here and almost all seem to have

[20:25] a smile or a thumbs up for the heavily

[20:27] armed American military forces here. The

[20:29] base in Kabul is comprised of a

[20:31] multinational coalition group hailing

[20:33] from many nations including France,

[20:34] Britain, Canada and South Korea. The

[20:36] roads we traveled were the same used by

[20:38] Soviet troops in the 1980s. Yet the

[20:40] mission of the Americans and other

[20:42] countries is of a completely different

[20:43] nature. The roads are tight and

[20:45] accidents are not uncommon, but it was a

[20:47] successful journey with no hostile

[20:49] encounters. Had there been, the troops

[20:50] riding in the truck with me had their

[20:51] M-16s locked and loaded and gunners in

[20:54] Humvees leading and trailing the convoy

[20:55] were prepared to respond. In Kabul,

[20:57] Afghanistan, Tim King, Fox 12 News.

[21:01] >> You can see Tim's reports online at

[21:03] salemnews.com and kptv.com.

[21:13] >> Kicking the nicotine habit for good. The

[21:18] >> And another big department store dropped

[21:20] the price on prescriptions. The details

[21:21] are coming up in the final cut.

[21:23] >> And surprisingly warm out there today,

[21:25] wasn't it? Take a look at these [music]

[21:25] temperatures around the region. You

[21:26] know, here in Portland we almost hit 60.

[21:28] That's kind of rare once you get past

[21:30] mid-November and we have much cooler

[21:31] weather coming in. Of course, we'll let

[21:33] you know how low that snow level is

[21:34] going to go over the Thanksgiving

[21:35] [music] weekend.

[24:35] new lineup at the Chrysler Premiere

[24:37] Event.

[24:43] >> In tonight's Health Watch, if you want

[24:44] to kick your smoking habit, researchers

[24:46] say the patch may make it even easier

[24:48] than before. A study at Duke University

[24:49] found the success rate more than doubled

[24:51] when people use the patch 2 weeks before

[24:53] quitting. Right now, people are told not

[24:55] to light up while wearing the patch, but

[24:57] researchers say the FDA should

[24:59] re-evaluate that warning. However, some

[25:01] experts say more research still needs to

[25:03] be done. They say people who smoke while

[25:05] wearing the patch run the risk of

[25:06] nicotine toxicity.

[25:08] You don't have to feel guilty about

[25:09] enjoying a big Thanksgiving dinner if

[25:11] you're trying to drop the pounds.

[25:12] Researchers say cardio workouts are more

[25:14] effective than counting calories for

[25:17] middle-aged Americans. Scientists say

[25:18] people who exercise lost significantly

[25:20] more weight than those who just dieted.

[25:22] The study says it's because exercisers

[25:24] maintain muscle mass while dieters can

[25:26] end up losing it. Exercisers regularly

[25:29] challenge their muscles and that helps

[25:30] prevent muscle tissue from

[25:31] deteriorating.

[25:33] >> And more reasons to fill up on

[25:34] Thanksgiving. Experts say that cranberry

[25:36] sauce has significant health benefits.

[25:38] Cranberries contain antioxidants that

[25:40] can prevent urinary tract infections and

[25:42] stomach ulcers. And now the National

[25:44] Institutes of Health is researching the

[25:46] fruit's effect on heart disease. Uh

[25:48] small study in Pennsylvania shows that

[25:50] drinking cranberry juice three times a

[25:51] day can lower levels of bad cholesterol

[25:54] and raise good cholesterol levels.

[25:56] Researchers say fresh cranberries and

[25:58] 100% cranberry juice offer the greatest

[26:01] health benefits.

[26:05] >> A nice break [music] out there today.

[26:06] Just partly cloudy skies, not much rain,

[26:07] but that's about to change in the 7-day

[26:09] forecast. We are really going to get

[26:11] soaked. Today with the partly cloudy

[26:12] skies, temperatures up around 60. That's

[26:14] going to change [music] as well. Also,

[26:16] how secure is your laptop computer? Wait

[26:18] till you see what the Fox 12

[26:19] investigators found on local Wi-Fi

[26:21] networks.

[26:22] >> Save room for dessert and a few bargains

[26:24] this Thanksgiving. How some stores are

[26:26] giving you a head start on Friday's

[26:27] [music] big sales.

[26:28] >> And we do it every year. Coming up, we

[26:30] count down the dangerous new toys before

[26:33] you hit those stores.

[29:53] >> The mother of a man killed in a

[29:55] hit-and-run crash wants stiffer

[29:56] punishment for anyone involved in the

[29:58] crime. Russell Moody died in a crash

[30:00] last July after a driver crossed the

[30:02] center line and smashed head-on into a

[30:04] car that he was riding in. A Washington

[30:07] County court convicted Sergio Gabina

[30:09] Gonzales Gonzales of helping the suspect

[30:12] escape. Well, he received probation and

[30:14] is already out of jail. Lisa Moody says

[30:17] she's now petitioning for a sentence of

[30:18] at least 3 years for being part of a

[30:20] hit-and-run crime.

[30:22] >> Tonight, making changes to keep kids in

[30:24] school and out of jail. Oregon's

[30:25] governor says he has a plan to do just

[30:27] that. KPTV's Jim Hyde reports.

[30:30] >> It's going to take getting on the

[30:32] internet, figuring out um where you can

[30:34] obtain training for the occupation in

[30:36] >> Students at the Youth Employment

[30:37] Institute want to get their GED and a

[30:39] job. They don't want to just be

[30:41] statistics.

[30:43] >> We have not fulfilled our responsibility

[30:46] to Oregon's young people.

[30:48] >> [applause]

[30:49] >> Some other YEI trainees went to hear

[30:51] about the governor's approach to their

[30:53] problem.

[30:53] >> A lot to do with employment. Um

[30:55] >> Being getting getting your job training

[30:57] or or

[30:57] >> Yes. That they will allow

[31:00] job readiness

[31:02] and pre-trial for the job.

[31:04] >> Jeff and some of his fellow trainees may

[31:06] not have fulfilled their

[31:07] responsibilities either. Some have been

[31:09] truants, dropouts, and criminals. Staff

[31:12] at the Institute in Northeast Portland

[31:13] say for many trainees attending classes

[31:16] here is one condition of their

[31:17] probation.

[31:18] >> He didn't know that he had the gun, but

[31:21] he was actually there, so

[31:23] >> So, they charged him?

[31:25] >> Under Measure 11.

[31:26] >> Elizabeth talks about her older brother

[31:28] serving a five and a half year term for

[31:29] being there when his friend shot another

[31:31] guy.

[31:32] It'll be harder for him to get a job. A

[31:34] lesson learned through him, she's

[31:36] studying GED tests and how to dress for

[31:39] a job interview.

[31:40] >> We'll just round this up to 2.6.

[31:42] >> The trainees in this math class come in

[31:44] at different levels and need individual

[31:46] attention.

[31:46] >> The it creates a very difficult teaching

[31:48] environment, but at the same time it's

[31:49] one of the most vibrant and entertaining

[31:52] work environments because the students

[31:53] are challenging each other and

[31:54] challenging themselves at the same time.

[31:57] >> The Institute's programs are paid for by

[31:59] private industry, federal, city,

[32:00] district, and state money. The governor

[32:03] says he wants to invest in head start

[32:04] programs rather than juvenile jails.

[32:07] >> And so, I would much rather make it in

[32:08] the front end.

[32:10] >> Some trainees want to make the best of a

[32:12] second chance.

[32:13] >> They can help you get jobs and it's GED

[32:16] and basically [snorts] helps you like

[32:18] where you want to go in life.

[32:19] >> Obi says he wants to be a computer

[32:21] engineer. Reporting in news control, Jim

[32:23] Hyde, the 10:00 news.

[32:26] >> Tonight, searching for answers after a

[32:27] grave marker from Alaska turned up at a

[32:30] Vancouver church. The broken headstone

[32:32] belongs to a man named Cassell Ridge is

[32:35] and it showed up today exactly 10 years

[32:38] after his death. We're told that Ridges

[32:40] was a Vietnam veteran, but when he died,

[32:43] that marker somehow got lost during

[32:44] shipping. Eventually, his family ordered

[32:47] another one, and police say they have no

[32:48] idea how that headstone ended up in

[32:51] Vancouver.

[32:52] >> Well, if you're one of those who thinks

[32:53] that heading to a store to get your

[32:54] Christmas tree is just too easy, you can

[32:56] get a permit to cut down your own now.

[32:58] Mount Hood National Forest started

[32:59] selling Christmas tree cutting permits

[33:01] today. It's $5 for a permit, and you can

[33:04] cut a tree up to 12 ft tall with a limit

[33:06] of five trees per household.

[33:09] Oregon could be adding 12,000 jobs in

[33:11] seasonal holiday hiring this year.

[33:12] That's That's nearly 4 and 1/2% increase

[33:15] from last year. To make that prediction,

[33:16] state economists looked at how stores

[33:18] hired employees during holidays.

[33:20] Christmas tree farms, the US Post

[33:22] Office, and winter sports areas also

[33:24] tend to hire this time of the year,

[33:25] which helps increase the amount of new

[33:27] jobs.

[33:29] >> [music]

[33:31] >> Fox 12 chief meteorologist Mark Nelson

[33:33] joins us now. It's that time of year

[33:35] when a lot of people either if they

[33:36] haven't left yet, they're going to be

[33:37] leaving in the next few days to go visit

[33:38] relatives for Thanksgiving.

[33:39] >> Yeah, and

[33:40] >> What are you going to face out there?

[33:41] >> Really bad news. If you're going through

[33:42] the Cascades, looks really rough. We,

[33:44] you know, couldn't have worse timing.

[33:45] Often this time of the year, we're still

[33:46] just heading into winter, so we're still

[33:48] kind of mild often. Not this year. Looks

[33:50] like midwinter coming up in the

[33:51] Cascades, but uh let's go through all

[33:53] the areas here, and we'll do this each

[33:54] night actually through Wednesday night.

[33:56] Coast Range uh looks just wet. It's

[33:58] pretty early in the year to get snow

[33:59] down to about 1,500 ft. That's what the

[34:01] Coast Range passes are at. Uh but that

[34:03] could possibly happen on Saturday

[34:05] morning. We've got much colder weather

[34:06] coming in. Yeah, we could see snow all

[34:07] the way down there briefly. North to

[34:09] Seattle, no problems. Fair and wet. Uh

[34:11] through the Gorge, also no problems.

[34:13] None of that cold east wind flowing

[34:14] through the Gorge over the next few

[34:15] days, so good news there. But I As I

[34:18] mentioned, the Cascades just look, well,

[34:19] to be honest, pretty bad starting

[34:21] tomorrow evening. That's when the snow

[34:22] level drops below all the passes all the

[34:24] way through probably sometime

[34:26] uh on Sunday at least. And there's going

[34:28] to be a lot of snow during that time.

[34:29] Often on snow, it's hard to find any big

[34:31] breaks coming up in the uh Cascades.

[34:34] Now, through the uh northeast Oregon uh

[34:36] pass there at uh Cabbage Hill, Immigrant

[34:38] Hill, and then of course Ladd Canyon

[34:39] south of La Grande, always a pretty

[34:41] rough spot. Off and on snow, I think

[34:42] starting Wednesday uh through Sunday.

[34:45] So, rough traveling there, and of course

[34:46] down to Siskiyou Summit if you're headed

[34:48] into California. Um there will be snow

[34:50] there as well. Now, take a look outside

[34:52] at this hour. Well, first the uh

[34:53] temperatures here. 52 at Tillamook, 54

[34:55] Newport. There are some lightning

[34:57] strikes occurring offshore. 48 in

[34:59] Portland at this hour, 44 pretty mild

[35:01] actually for this uh time of the night

[35:03] and this time of the year. And then to

[35:05] the east side, temperatures are mostly

[35:07] in the upper 30s to uh right around 40°.

[35:09] Take a look outside at this hour now on

[35:11] our live radar at least, and what you'll

[35:13] see out there is a lot of rain off to

[35:15] the west. I mentioned a few

[35:16] thunderstorms. We've seen a few strikes

[35:17] out here. None here within the last

[35:19] hour, but looks like Tillamook, you

[35:20] folks in Tillamook County getting quite

[35:22] a bit of rain. There's Tillamook and

[35:23] Oceanside, Bay City, Garibaldi, some

[35:25] heavy rain headed off to the northeast.

[35:26] By the way, when we get lots of rain the

[35:28] next few days, I'm not too concerned

[35:29] about flooding because above 3,000 ft or

[35:32] snow or 3,000 ft or so, it's going to

[35:35] fall as snow. So, not a big flooding

[35:37] situation, but plenty of rain coming up

[35:38] in the lowlands. Skyline camera shows uh

[35:40] just partly cloudy skies here in

[35:41] Portland at this hour, and I don't think

[35:43] we'll see a lot of rain until probably

[35:44] close to the uh daybreak hour, and

[35:46] that's when we will see the rain. Take a

[35:48] look at this offshore. All these speckly

[35:50] clouds out here, there's a system

[35:51] organizing right in here. It's not like

[35:53] one of those big systems that we've had

[35:54] lately. This is very cold air. It's very

[35:57] unstable. We get scattered thunderstorms

[35:58] out here, and this is all going to swing

[36:00] inland during the uh morning hours

[36:01] tomorrow. So, we'll probably get some

[36:03] pretty good downpours. It's a leading

[36:05] edge of a pool of really cold air. It's

[36:06] been very cold in Alaska. This has come

[36:08] out over the ocean, and between now and

[36:10] Thanksgiving Day, the next 3 days here,

[36:12] it eases in over the northwest. So, snow

[36:14] levels gradually fall, and we'll see

[36:16] more and more snow in the mountains. Not

[36:17] only in the mountains, but over the next

[36:19] 2 days, even all the higher elevations

[36:21] of eastern Oregon, and eventually, as I

[36:22] mentioned, maybe the coast range by

[36:24] Saturday morning. So, no snow down here

[36:26] in the valleys, but the rain is going to

[36:27] turn a bit colder. It's going to be kind

[36:28] of raw and windy coming up for tomorrow.

[36:30] 54 in Lincoln City tomorrow, 54 in

[36:32] Newport. Best chance for thunderstorms

[36:34] in the Northwest actually at the

[36:35] coastline tomorrow. In the valleys, just

[36:38] rainy and windy tomorrow. Not extremely

[36:40] windy and not extremely heavy rain, but

[36:42] it's kind of a rough day out there. East

[36:43] side, light rain showers. Still mild

[36:45] tomorrow, then it cools off quite a bit

[36:47] on Wednesday. In the Cascades, mainly

[36:49] wet passes until the evening. It drops

[36:51] to 3,000 ft the snow level. 6 to 8 in

[36:54] above the 4,000 ft level during the

[36:56] daytime tomorrow and a whole bunch more

[36:57] coming up Wednesday and also Thursday.

[36:59] First live and local forecast, steady

[37:01] rain in the morning, showers in the

[37:02] afternoon, maybe a thunderstorm, and

[37:04] definitely cooler. We'll drop about 8°.

[37:06] We'll drop into the 40s Wednesday and

[37:08] Thursday. Lots of mountain snow. I think

[37:10] easily 3 to 5 ft in the next 7 days, and

[37:13] that cool and wet weather continues all

[37:15] the way through the next 7 days. That

[37:16] That will include the entire weekend. Of

[37:18] course, lots of tree lighting ceremonies

[37:20] going on, and you can get uh

[37:22] your instant desktop weather at

[37:23] kptv.com. Of course, our live streaming

[37:25] radar as well, and Andy will have the

[37:27] latest coming up tomorrow at 5:00.

[41:10] >> Stand by the final cut in 3 2 1 Q them.

[41:14] >> The final cut begins with news from

[41:15] across America and the search for a car

[41:16] that may be responsible for a deadly

[41:18] school bus crash in Alabama. Witnesses

[41:21] say a small car nudged the bus, causing

[41:23] it to flip off the highway and fall

[41:25] about 30 ft before landing on a nearby

[41:27] street. Three students on that bus died

[41:30] and emergency crews took 23 others to

[41:33] the hospital. Students who survived that

[41:35] crash are now pulling for each other.

[41:38] >> I hope they get much better and I'm

[41:40] sorry for the ones that just died and

[41:43] hope they family take it.

[41:46] Okay.

[41:48] >> The students were going from their high

[41:49] school to a tech school. The bus did not

[41:51] have airbags or seatbelts. Police in

[41:53] Minnesota say the drowning of a college

[41:55] student 4 years ago was murder. The

[41:57] parents of Chris Jenkins didn't believe

[41:59] their son's death in the Mississippi

[42:00] River was an accident or a suicide. So,

[42:03] the family went to a private

[42:04] investigator and that investigator says

[42:06] police didn't fully look into the

[42:07] student's disappearance or his body,

[42:09] which police found encased in an ice

[42:11] chunk 4 months later. The police chief

[42:13] agreed and the case is now being

[42:15] investigated by officers.

[42:17] >> A hunter in Virginia is in the hospital

[42:19] tonight after a 600-lb bear bit him.

[42:21] Officials say that the hunter shot the

[42:23] bear and then went up to it thinking

[42:25] that he'd killed the animal, but the

[42:26] bear was still alive and took a bite out

[42:29] of the hunter. The man's friends then

[42:31] shot and killed the bear. That hunter is

[42:33] in fair condition tonight.

[42:35] A hunter shooting at deer killed a man

[42:37] and his dog at a park in Illinois. It

[42:39] happened during a 3-day weekend when the

[42:41] park was closed to non-hunters. Police

[42:43] say that the victim went to walk his dog

[42:45] in the park when the hunter shot and

[42:47] killed them. They say that the man did

[42:49] have a permit to hunt. Police are still

[42:51] investigating that shooting. So far

[42:52] there is no word on any possible

[42:54] charges.

[42:55] >> There was an emotional reunion in

[42:56] Baltimore today in connection with the

[42:57] world's first five-way kidney

[42:59] transplant. The 10-hour operation

[43:02] happened last Tuesday after five

[43:03] patients came to the hospital. Four of

[43:05] them arrived with potential donors who

[43:07] turned out to be incompatible matches.

[43:10] However, the donors did match the other

[43:12] patients. Doctors managed to find a

[43:14] fifth donor to complete the five-way

[43:15] transplant. None of the patients knew

[43:18] their donors until today.

[43:20] In Tampa, a 10-month-old boy who was

[43:22] born deaf can hear for the first time

[43:24] tonight. He got a cochlear implant. The

[43:26] device helps his brain translate sound.

[43:29] Nearly 100,000 people around the world

[43:31] have received those cochlear implants.

[43:33] >> Well, our final cut moves to Ohio now

[43:35] where a storefront featuring a group of

[43:36] Nazi gingerbread men stirred up plenty

[43:39] of controversy as you might imagine. An

[43:41] artist designed the window display for a

[43:43] hardware store in Oberlin, Ohio. He said

[43:45] he picked the taboo subject to show what

[43:46] ginger men gingerbread men do when

[43:49] nobody is watching. Apparently, the

[43:51] store's owner did not like it. He is

[43:53] pulling that display. The artist says

[43:55] that he didn't mean to offend anyone and

[43:56] is surprised that people reacted

[43:58] negatively towards it.

[44:00] >> Well, you can save yourself some cash at

[44:02] the pharmacy. Target is now offering

[44:04] cheap prescription drugs. Today, the

[44:05] discount retailer announced it will sell

[44:07] generic prescription drugs for just four

[44:09] bucks. Target says this is effective

[44:12] immediately and applies to all Target

[44:14] pharmacies. Target has more than 1,200

[44:16] pharmacies nationwide. Newspapers are

[44:19] getting a little help from cyberspace.

[44:20] Yahoo Incorporated has made a deal with

[44:23] at least seven newspaper groups. The

[44:24] papers say they will use Yahoo's

[44:26] technology to sell ads and offer search

[44:28] functions for more than 150 online daily

[44:31] newspapers. Yahoo says it hopes to reach

[44:33] more local markets while newspapers want

[44:35] to reach readers who get their news from

[44:37] the internet.

[44:42] >> A lot of people are using wireless

[44:44] internet these days and you may be one

[44:46] of them. Well, tonight the Fox 12

[44:48] investigators find out if the

[44:49] convenience is putting your safety at

[44:51] risk. Here's KPTV's David Freitas.

[44:58] >> At the Fresh Pot in North Portland,

[45:01] laptops [bell]

[45:02] are as common as lattes.

[45:06] And data floats invisibly through the

[45:08] air in a blur of zeros and ones.

[45:11] Information any thief would love to get

[45:14] his hands on.

[45:15] >> It's a scary thought.

[45:17] >> With software you can download for free

[45:19] from the web and a little bit of time,

[45:21] there's a lot of data someone could

[45:22] gather.

[45:23] >> It can be done in, you know,

[45:26] a few minutes.

[45:27] >> We asked Tyler Booth, the owner of local

[45:29] internet service provider Step House, to

[45:31] help us put Wi-Fi to the test.

[45:35] He loaded up software he uses to fix

[45:37] networks. It captures packets of data.

[45:39] >> There's a lot of information. Each

[45:41] little packet is just a very small

[45:43] amount of information.

[45:44] >> Packets are all the bits and bytes that

[45:46] make up a web page and in this case, my

[45:48] personal email. When I logged on, he

[45:50] could not see my password.

[45:52] >> Each info

[45:53] >> But electronically, he peered right over

[45:55] my shoulder and into my inbox.

[45:58] >> There's the touch to the email right

[45:59] there.

[45:59] >> Oh, yeah.

[46:00] >> Wow.

[46:01] >> It took a few minutes, but there hidden

[46:02] in the complex computer language was the

[46:05] text of exactly what I was reading.

[46:07] >> With a little

[46:08] work, it doesn't take too much

[46:10] uh I mean

[46:11] a little investigation, you can figure

[46:13] out how to use it and what it does.

[46:14] >> We repeated our experiment with other

[46:16] laptop users.

[46:17] >> I'm not really sure what the security is

[46:19] like.

[46:19] >> With his permission, we watched as Aaron

[46:21] Gregory logged on to his email.

[46:23] >> I know personally I'm I'm not really

[46:24] comfortable with the idea of anyone

[46:26] with any sort of basic computer

[46:28] knowledge on the software being able to

[46:29] get their hands on that sort of

[46:30] information.

[46:31] >> We don't get as much this time.

[46:32] >> Tell us what kind of browser he's using,

[46:35] um

[46:35] what page he's going to.

[46:37] >> Then, bingo. We get cookie information.

[46:40] A cookie is the computer's memory of

[46:42] Aaron's email password. It's scrambled

[46:44] or encrypted, but it is there.

[46:46] >> If someone knew what they were doing,

[46:47] they could use that cookie to pretend to

[46:49] be him.

[46:49] >> Still, Aaron is not alarmed.

[46:51] >> Obviously, it was it was a little more

[46:53] difficult even than you thought it was

[46:54] going to be to look up even that general

[46:56] information.

[46:56] >> Difficult, but not impossible.

[46:59] Especially for a techie who's not as

[47:01] responsible as our computer expert.

[47:05] >> That was David Freitas reporting. Here

[47:06] are a few tips to help you stay secure

[47:08] while using Wi-Fi. First of all, always

[47:10] be sure when using sites like your

[47:12] bank's website that there is a lock on

[47:14] the bottom of the browser screen. When

[47:16] you enter personal information, make

[47:17] sure the web address also reads https

[47:21] with the S standing for security. And

[47:23] there's also software that you can buy

[47:24] to secure any information that you are

[47:26] sending over a wireless internet

[47:28] network.

[47:29] >> X-rays have been around for more than a

[47:31] hundred years giving doctors plenty of

[47:32] proof that people can end up with some

[47:34] pretty strange things inside them. Home

[47:37] improvements land plenty of Oregonians

[47:38] in the X-ray room. A nail in a knee, a

[47:41] staple in a hand, and who can forget the

[47:43] doozy that made national news, the

[47:44] Oregon man who put a dozen nails into

[47:47] his own head and lived. You're going to

[47:50] want to see this one, and it's coming up

[47:51] tomorrow on the 10:00 news. An up close

[47:53] look at weird X-rays from across the

[47:55] nation and right here in Oregon.

[47:58] >> Well, now you can get even bigger deals

[47:59] on Black Friday if you don't mind

[48:01] sacrificing your sleep. Some stores will

[48:03] start offering early bird specials at

[48:05] midnight. Thanksgiving night at

[48:07] midnight. Some will even stay open

[48:08] Thanksgiving Day. The stores want to get

[48:10] customer dollars before the competition

[48:12] does. They also hope to control crowds

[48:14] and give shoppers and themselves a head

[48:16] start. But many stores like Walmart and

[48:18] Best Buy won't offer their big sales

[48:19] until the traditional 5:00 a.m. opening.

[48:21] Black Friday unofficially kicks off the

[48:23] holiday shopping season.

[48:25] Everyone's talking about hot toys for

[48:26] the holiday season. Now one consumer

[48:28] group has released a list of 10

[48:29] potentially dangerous toys you may not

[48:31] want to put under your tree. The list

[48:32] includes a pyramid stacker with a sharp

[48:34] pointy top and a solid wood dowel

[48:37] through the middle. The group says this

[48:39] flowery decoration and Lil' Snoopy both

[48:41] have dangerously long strings.

[48:45] Also [clears throat] on the list is

[48:45] Superman lamp, the Zippity Do Dolly with

[48:48] detachable buttons, and Fear Factor

[48:51] candy that challenges children to eat as

[48:52] much as possible as fast as possible.

[48:55] Old classics like the Sky Blaster, the

[48:57] Turbo water balloon launcher, and the

[48:59] bow and arrow round out the top 10. If

[49:01] you want a closer look at the list, we

[49:02] have a link on our website, kptv.com.

[49:06] >> Well, Hollywood is buzzing about the

[49:08] outburst from the actor best known as

[49:09] Kramer from Seinfeld. Take a listen.

[49:12] >> That's what happens WHEN YOU INTERRUPT A

[49:14] WHITE MAN GETTING READY TO JUMP YOU OUT.

[49:18] THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.

[49:21] YEAH, WE SEE.

[49:22] YOU SEE HOW THEY STEAL those words?

[49:24] Those

[49:25] words.

[49:27] >> That's just part of Michael Richards'

[49:28] profanity-laced tirade that contained

[49:30] some disparaging remarks about

[49:32] African-Americans including the N-word.

[49:34] It started when some hecklers who were

[49:36] African-American shouted at Richards

[49:37] while he performed at the Laugh Factory

[49:39] in Los Angeles back on Friday. Well,

[49:41] tonight Richards went on the David

[49:43] Letterman Show to apologize.

[49:45] >> I'm I'm really busted up over this and

[49:47] I'm I'm I'm very, very sorry

[49:50] uh to those uh people in the audience

[49:53] uh the blacks, the Hispanics, the

[49:55] whites, everyone that was there that

[49:56] took the brunt of that anger and and and

[49:59] and hate and rage.

[50:02] >> Richards is insisting tonight that he is

[50:04] not a racist. Fans of the Lord of the

[50:06] Rings films will have to prepare for

[50:08] change. Director Peter Jackson will not

[50:10] be invited back to head up future Lord

[50:11] of the Rings films. This after an

[50:13] accounting dispute between Jackson's

[50:15] film company and New Line Studios. New

[50:17] Line says that they will find someone

[50:18] else to direct the Hobbit and the Lord

[50:20] of the Rings prequel. Jackson says that

[50:22] he's disappointed and assumed that the

[50:24] conflict would be resolved.

[50:27] >> One of your favorite American Idol

[50:29] finalist is coming out with his first

[50:30] album tomorrow, Chris Daughtry. Remember

[50:33] him? Still calls North Carolina home,

[50:35] but for the past year he's spent most of

[50:36] his time in Los Angeles or on the road

[50:38] promoting his self-titled CD. The first

[50:41] single on the album is called It's Not

[50:42] Over and it's already being played on

[50:44] the air and it's getting great reviews.

[50:46] Chris Daughtry wrote several of those

[50:48] songs on the CD himself. We can hardly

[50:50] wait to see it. And that is tonight's

[50:52] final cut.

[50:55] >> I'm Tim Becker. Coming up next in

[50:56] sports, the Blazers back home looking

[50:58] for their second straight win as they

[50:59] host the San Antonio Spurs and the Ducks

[51:02] put their undefeated record on the line

[53:49] >> Weekdays from 5:00 to 9:00 on Fox 12

[53:51] Oregon.

[53:54] >> [music]

[53:57] >> Welcome back. Okay, so the Spurs are

[53:59] road warriors extraordinaire, undefeated

[54:02] away from home, perennial powers, and so

[54:04] on and so on. So, when the Blazers

[54:06] manhandled them early tonight, it was a

[54:08] beautiful thing. Ime Udoka with that

[54:10] block leading to the LaMarcus Aldridge

[54:13] dunk over Tim Duncan. Zach Randolph

[54:15] owned them in the first half also, the

[54:17] rebound and bank for the 25-20 Portland

[54:19] lead. Zibo scoring 19 in the first half,

[54:22] does it again. Blazers lead by eight at

[54:24] halftime. Oh, but then Randolph went a

[54:26] little bit cold, scored just four points

[54:29] in part two. Aldridge had to mop up his

[54:31] mess right there. And late third

[54:33] quarter, the Spurs would retake the

[54:34] lead. Tim Duncan scored 25 points. It

[54:37] was 74-72 Spurs. Still a close game

[54:40] late, but Manu Ginobili provides safe

[54:42] passage to stay perfect away from home.

[54:44] He scores 25 as well.

[54:46] Uh they beat the Blazers 107 to 98. But

[54:48] there is consolation in this one, the

[54:50] Blazers sticking with one of the

[54:51] league's best uh teams in the league all

[54:54] night long.

[54:56] A wild finish for the Ducks tonight at

[54:58] Rice. Trailing by 10, but Aaron Brooks

[55:00] pulls them within two right here to Juan

[55:02] Porter. Boy, he came up huge, too. His

[55:04] three-pointer sends it to overtime, tied

[55:07] 66 all. Brooks scored 22 of his 30 in

[55:10] the second half and gives them the lead

[55:12] in overtime. Three by Marty Leunen icing

[55:14] it right here, and the Ducks stay

[55:16] undefeated winning 79-73.

[55:18] >> [music]

[55:18] >> And at the Stott Center, Portland State

[55:20] dominates the Geoducks from Evergreen

[55:22] State, 95-76.

[55:24] NFL tonight, Giants and Jacksonville.

[55:26] The Jags scoring two touchdowns on the

[55:28] ground. Fred Taylor's doing it here for

[55:30] the 10-3 lead in the second quarter. And

[55:32] then in the fourth, Maurice Jones-Drew

[55:34] punches it in and the Giants lose their

[55:36] second straight, 26-10. Tim Becker, Fox

[55:39] 12 Sports.

[59:31] starts now. I'm Shauna Parsons.

[59:33] >> And I'm Win Garcia. Here's a look at Fox

[59:34] 12's top stories at 11.

[59:37] >> Well, prosecutors believe James Reyes

[59:38] sexually abused a distant relative 5

[59:40] years ago and recently tried to start

[59:42] the relationship up again. In fact, they

[59:44] say he thought he was going to meet the

[59:45] girl here at PDX, but instead, he was

[59:47] met by federal agents. And we have the

[59:49] court documents being used in this case.

[59:52] Reyes lives in this Washington County

[59:53] home with his family and neighbors tell

[59:54] us he is an outstanding father and

[59:56] volunteer for the Cub Scouts and Boy

[59:58] Scouts for several years, but tonight

[59:59] Reyes is facing a long list of charges.

[60:02] Prosecutors say the distant relative's

[60:04] father contacted police and that's when

[60:07] Immigration and Customs Enforcement

[60:08] agents moved in. They posed as the girl

[60:10] online and say Reyes had several

[60:12] explicit email conversations with who he

[60:15] thought was the 15-year-old girl. They

[60:17] add that he also sent pictures of

[60:19] himself and child pornography via the

[60:23] internet. Reyes is expected back in

[60:25] federal court later on this week.

[60:27] >> Reporting at the Portland International

[60:28] Airport tonight, Kevin Kowalewski, the

[60:29] 11:00 news.

[60:31] >> If your holiday travel plans will take

[60:32] you over mountain passes this year,

[60:34] you'll want to either have traction

[60:35] tires or carry chains with you. The

[60:38] forecast is calling for several inches

[60:40] of snow above 4,500 ft during the

[60:43] holiday weekend. We spoke with some

[60:45] drivers who hit the road today to avoid

[60:48] winter driving conditions in the

[60:50] Cascades. AAA says Thanksgiving road

[60:52] traffic this year will be heavier than

[60:54] last year despite the weather conditions

[60:57] and higher gas prices. ODOT recommends

[60:59] carrying with you a winter weather

[61:01] driving emergency kit that includes a

[61:04] first aid kit, a flashlight with

[61:06] batteries, as well as food, water,

[61:08] flares, and jumper cables. Reporting in

[61:11] Troutdale tonight, Stephanie Krulovich,

[61:13] the 11:00 news.

[61:15] >> Tonight, the city of Portland is working

[61:17] to make crosswalks a bit safer. As kind

[61:19] of a test, the city recently installed

[61:21] this special sign in the middle of a

[61:23] crosswalk at Northwest 23rd and

[61:24] Marshall. Officials want to remind

[61:26] drivers that they need to watch out for

[61:28] people in the street. Under Oregon law,

[61:30] drivers must stay stopped at crosswalks

[61:33] until pedestrians are completely across

[61:35] the street and out of the way, but

[61:37] drivers don't always do that, especially

[61:39] on busy streets. In January, a driver

[61:42] hit a 66-year-old woman and her daughter

[61:44] a few blocks from where we are in

[61:46] Northwest Portland. The older woman

[61:47] died, and the driver in that case said

[61:49] she could see the woman crossing the

[61:51] road. Now, the city has installed

[61:52] another one of these signs at Southeast

[61:54] 17th and Center Street. The signs cost

[61:56] about $240 a piece. If they work, the

[62:00] city says it will buy more. In Northwest

[62:03] Portland tonight, David Wilson, the

[62:04] 11:00 news.

[62:05] >> And KPTV's Deborah Gill joins us live

[62:07] now with what's new at 11. Deborah?

[62:09] >> Police are on the hunt for two of Fox

[62:11] 12's most wanted who smashed through

[62:13] this Northeast pawn shop door with a car

[62:16] jack, then used a tire iron to smash

[62:19] some glass jewelry cases, taking

[62:20] everything inside, but it was all caught

[62:22] on tape.

[62:24] Tonight at closing time, the clerks here

[62:26] at Silver Lining Jewelry and Loan take

[62:28] the jewelry out of the cases to store it

[62:30] in a safe. After what happened 2 weeks

[62:32] ago, they now put all of the jewelry

[62:34] away for the night.

[62:35] >> I think it's terrible. I I you know,

[62:37] these people work pretty hard and

[62:39] they've been up here just a couple of

[62:40] years and

[62:41] I you know, I know they got bars on the

[62:43] windows and everything, but it's just a

[62:44] shame they got broken into.

[62:46] >> Police say on Friday, November 3rd, just

[62:48] after 4:00 in the morning, two men

[62:50] smashed through the business's side

[62:52] door. You can see from the store

[62:54] surveillance pictures, they then used a

[62:56] tire iron to smash a glass jewelry case.

[62:59] They took everything inside. Police

[63:01] estimate the loss at nearly $5,000.

[63:04] >> It's unfortunate. I mean, I I could see

[63:06] why they'd be a target. I mean, given

[63:08] all the nice stuff they have in there.

[63:10] >> Longtime customers say Silver Lining is

[63:12] one of the nicest pawn shops in the city

[63:14] and the owners can be trusted.

[63:16] >> These people got a a good reputation in

[63:18] the neighborhood and I've been I've been

[63:19] coming down here, you know, I've been

[63:21] dealing with them from another store

[63:22] location for about the last 20 25 years.

[63:24] >> Tonight, these customers and police hope

[63:27] someone will recognize the thieves from

[63:29] these pictures and turn them in.

[63:31] >> Nobody likes to be burglarized. I mean,

[63:32] you feel victimized whether you're a

[63:33] business or a person.

[63:36] >> Now, through Crime Stoppers, police are

[63:37] offering a $1,000 reward for information

[63:39] leading to an arrest and conviction. You

[63:41] can remain anonymous when you call Crime

[63:44] Stoppers at 503-823-HELP.

[63:48] Reporting live tonight Northeast

[63:49] Portland, Deborah Gill, The 11:00 News.

[63:52] >> And we have an update on a story only

[63:53] Fox 12 brought you last week. Remember

[63:55] the surveillance video of officers

[63:57] arresting 44-year-old Greg Kelsey at the

[63:59] Cruise Inn Bar in Lincoln City? Well,

[64:01] deputies in Clackamas County now say

[64:03] that Kelsey is a person of interest in

[64:05] three or four robberies there. The FBI

[64:08] is also looking at him in connection

[64:10] with a robbery in West Linn. Albany,

[64:12] Salem, and McMinnville police also say

[64:14] he's a suspect in robberies in those

[64:16] towns, too.

[64:22] >> Your top three begins tonight with some

[64:23] controversial national news and renewed

[64:25] calls to reinstate the draft. New York

[64:28] Congressman Charles Rangel says the

[64:29] draft is necessary because America's

[64:31] military is spread too thin and only

[64:34] poor unemployed people are signing up

[64:36] for the military voluntarily. The next

[64:38] Speaker of the House says she

[64:39] understands the argument, but Nancy

[64:40] Pelosi says she does not support

[64:42] reinstating the draft. Rangel plans to

[64:44] introduce legislation for a draft, but

[64:46] lawmakers don't expect it to go

[64:47] anywhere. But military commanders say it

[64:49] could benefit from a bigger force pool.

[64:53] In Huntsville, Alabama, police are

[64:54] searching for a car that may have hit a

[64:56] bus just before a deadly accident. The

[64:58] school bus crashed through a guard rail

[65:00] and fell 30 ft nose first off a highway

[65:03] overpass in Alabama today. Three teenage

[65:05] girls died in that crash and 30 others

[65:07] on board are hurt. Tomorrow, grief

[65:09] counselors will be at the girls' school

[65:10] to help classmates deal with the deadly

[65:12] accident. Mothers Against Drunk Driving

[65:14] wants to take a law in New Mexico

[65:16] nationwide. The group wants a device

[65:18] that checks a driver's alcohol levels to

[65:20] be mandatory in every car in America.

[65:23] The car won't start if people are drunk.

[65:25] New Mexico's law requires anyone who's

[65:27] ever been convicted of drunk driving to

[65:28] have one in their cars, and that's where

[65:30] MADD hopes to start. The Bush

[65:31] administration plans to support research

[65:33] into the interlock devices, but has not

[65:36] decided whether to push for nationwide

[65:37] adoption of those tougher laws.

[65:41] >> Your top three international stories

[65:43] takes us first to Iran, where leaders

[65:45] hope to find ways to reduce the violence

[65:46] in Iraq. Iraq's president has accepted

[65:49] an invitation to a summit with Iran and

[65:51] Syria. Foreign policy experts say that

[65:53] the move seems to upstage plans from the

[65:55] US to include Syria and Iran in a wider

[65:58] regional effort to try to end the

[65:59] violence in Iraq. But, they also think

[66:01] it's a display of Iran's increasing role

[66:03] in the region, where it already has a

[66:05] strong influence over Syria and Lebanon.

[66:09] An investigation into a deadly plane

[66:10] crash in Nigeria will be reopened after

[66:13] security guards found bombs on a

[66:14] different Nigerian plane. The guards

[66:17] found at least five bombs on Saturday in

[66:19] unaccompanied luggage. In October of

[66:21] last year, a plane that crashed in

[66:23] Nigeria killed more than 100 people.

[66:25] Authorities now want to see if bombs

[66:27] brought that plane down.

[66:29] People in England are already trying to

[66:31] cash in on a wedding that may never

[66:32] happen. A chain of stores in the UK has

[66:34] prepared souvenirs for the wedding of

[66:36] Prince William and long-time girlfriend

[66:39] Kate Middleton. Despite some rumors, the

[66:41] couple isn't even engaged yet. The chain

[66:43] says that it will be ready if the

[66:44] nuptials are announced. Owners say they

[66:46] could have 100,000 items on store

[66:48] shelves within 48 hours of any wedding

[66:51] announcement.

[66:54] The top three moves to the northwest

[66:55] now, where the commuter train between

[66:57] Everett and Seattle will resume normal

[66:58] service tomorrow morning. The service

[67:00] was disrupted today when a Burlington

[67:02] Northern Santa Fe freight train

[67:04] derailed. The accident also disrupted

[67:06] Amtrak service. 10 cars jumped the

[67:08] tracks early this morning. No one was

[67:10] hurt and nothing toxic spilled.

[67:13] Investigators say it may take several

[67:14] months to figure out what caused the

[67:16] crane accident that killed a man in

[67:17] Bellevue last week. The 210-ft crane

[67:20] snapped on Thursday crashing into three

[67:22] buildings. The crane's operator has six

[67:24] drug convictions and is being tested for

[67:26] drugs. Investigators want to know if he

[67:28] caused the collapse or if it was a

[67:30] structural problem with the crane.

[67:32] Campus police officers can patrol dorm

[67:35] common areas at Washington State

[67:36] University. The college's Board of

[67:38] Regents approved the routine patrols

[67:40] today. The school stopped the patrols in

[67:42] May when a judge ruled a WSU police

[67:44] officer had invaded student privacy by

[67:47] randomly walking the hallways,

[67:48] listening, and sniffing at doorways.

[67:51] >> Now, Portland's first complete forecast

[67:54] at 11 from your first live local weather

[67:57] team.

[67:58] >> The local radar and a live radar doesn't

[68:00] show anything occurring over the middle

[68:01] of the Portland metro area. It's quiet

[68:03] this evening. We had a mostly dry day

[68:04] and a warm day, too, 58 here in

[68:06] Portland. But, the rain has been sitting

[68:08] just right along the north coast range

[68:10] and also the north coast. You folks

[68:11] getting quite a bit of rain this

[68:12] evening. There's been quite a bit of

[68:13] lightning offshore. Let's take a closer

[68:15] look here and you can see here we are at

[68:17] Manzanita, Wheeler, and then up uh

[68:19] Highway 53 up towards 26 and Cannon

[68:21] Beach is right over the hump here past

[68:23] the uh big Fox 12. But, a pretty heavy

[68:25] rain volume. You can see areas of a

[68:26] yellow here. We're going to see some

[68:27] downpours tomorrow along the coast. And

[68:29] you're going to see lightning off and on

[68:30] the next few days. Very unstable air

[68:32] moving into the Northwest for the next

[68:33] few days. That means a bunch more rain,

[68:35] but not here in the metro area as I

[68:37] mentioned. If you look closely here, if

[68:38] you have a good TV here, unlike mine,

[68:39] which wouldn't show this, but you can

[68:41] see the uh scattered clouds out there.

[68:42] Just kind of uh partly cloudy skies at

[68:44] this hour. Now, we've had over 9 in of

[68:47] rain so far here in Portland this month.

[68:49] We're only a little

[68:50] uh under 2 in from our all-time November

[68:53] record. And I think we're going to do it

[68:54] because we have a lot more rain coming

[68:55] up in the next 7 to 10 days. It looks

[68:58] very wet. The difference compared to

[68:59] what What earlier this month is that it

[69:01] looks like our rain is going to be quite

[69:03] a bit colder over the next few days and

[69:04] that means a lot of snow in the

[69:05] mountains. There's that 58 at Portland

[69:07] today, 59 Troutdale. Temperatures go

[69:09] downhill the next few days as well. Uh

[69:11] temperatures upper 40s to lower 50s west

[69:13] of the Cascades. A little cooler down in

[69:16] uh Albany or Corvallis, 44°. 39 at

[69:19] Redmond, still pretty mild east side. 46

[69:21] at Burns uh at the end of November at

[69:24] 11:00 is pretty mild, but that's going

[69:26] to change. But all these speckly clouds

[69:27] out here just rotating around. Here we

[69:29] are in the northwest. It's a cold front

[69:30] getting organized right in here. It's

[69:32] very cold air. This came out of Alaska

[69:34] where there was snow down to sea level

[69:35] at that point. Of course, it's modified

[69:37] quite a bit over the 50° ocean, but all

[69:39] this active weather with scattered

[69:40] showers, thunderstorms, and uh hail

[69:42] showers possibly, it's going to

[69:44] gradually move in the next few days.

[69:46] This is excellent for skiers or it's a

[69:47] lot of snow coming up. Not so much

[69:50] tomorrow, but especially Wednesday and

[69:51] Thursday. Very bad news for travelers.

[69:54] If you're going through the Cascades

[69:55] anytime after, let's say tomorrow

[69:56] evening, you're going to run into a lot

[69:58] of snow, especially Wednesday and

[69:59] Thanksgiving day. We could really get

[70:00] pounded with a lot of snow up there. And

[70:02] the showers uh will continue here in the

[70:04] valley. Just kind of a raw day tomorrow.

[70:06] Notice tomorrow midday, snow in the

[70:08] mountains, rain in the valley, scattered

[70:09] showers. No definite big storm, just a

[70:12] lot of rain off and on. Just about

[70:14] anytime it's possible. Same thing on

[70:15] Wednesday, lots of snow through the

[70:17] Cascades. So, your first live and local

[70:18] forecast tomorrow, showers, rainy,

[70:21] windy, and uh maybe a few thunderstorms

[70:23] along the coastline. Good chance there.

[70:25] A lesser chance of a thunder in the

[70:26] valley, still a small chance, but cooler

[70:28] tomorrow. Highs near 50 or maybe lower

[70:30] 50s and a breezy south wind uh maybe

[70:32] gusting to 30. You go east of the

[70:34] Cascades, light rain showers, still mild

[70:36] one last day there. And in the Cascades,

[70:39] turning snowy the next few days, 6 to 8

[70:41] in for the next 24 hours. Let's say

[70:43] above about 4,000 ft, but by tomorrow

[70:45] evening all passes will be snow covered.

[70:47] Keep that in mind. Here in the metro

[70:49] area, scattered showers tomorrow. Some

[70:50] of those could be briefly heavy at

[70:51] times. I think heaviest in the morning,

[70:53] tapering off a little bit in the

[70:54] afternoon, and maybe a sun break, but

[70:56] cooler tomorrow, about 50° and your

[70:58] 7-day forecast, boy, it just looks plain

[71:00] wet. Latest information says that rain

[71:02] Saturday and Sunday could fall as snow

[71:04] all the way down to maybe 1,000 ft. So,

[71:06] we're going to be watching that pretty

[71:07] closely to see uh how cold it does get.

[71:10] But, either way, take the umbrellas as

[71:11] your Christmas shopping begins coming up

[74:37] >> That's just a preview of what you'll see

[74:38] in the Edge tonight, but we begin with

[74:39] news caught on camera and an emergency

[74:41] landing that happened in St. Louis. Now,

[74:43] the FAA is calling it picture-perfect. A

[74:45] pilot had to really put his plane down

[74:47] in the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in

[74:49] Missouri this afternoon. He told the

[74:50] control tower that he was having some

[74:52] problems with his landing gear. He was

[74:54] worried he might have to attempt a belly

[74:55] landing, but look right there. He

[74:57] finally got the gear to go down. It

[74:58] worked well enough to land on, and no

[75:01] one we're told in that six-seater

[75:02] corporate plane was hurt.

[75:05] Well, this exercise was caught on camera

[75:06] on purpose. Firefighters across the

[75:08] nation want to warn about the dangers of

[75:09] deep frying turkeys this Thanksgiving.

[75:12] First, make sure that your turkey's

[75:13] properly thawed. If any of the meat is

[75:15] frozen, that oil can splash out of the

[75:17] deep fryer and cause a fire. Don't

[75:19] forget to fry the turkey on a flat

[75:21] surface outdoors while also staying away

[75:23] from any decks or garages, and of course

[75:25] your house and probably your car, too.

[75:27] And here's one you may have not heard

[75:29] before. Use peanut oil instead of just

[75:31] plain vegetable oil when deep frying

[75:33] that turkey because it holds up better

[75:35] at high temperatures.

[75:40] >> Now, on the edge of this time to check

[75:41] the most popular stories on the web at

[75:43] 11. These are the stories that are

[75:44] getting the most hits on kptv.com. And

[75:47] the first one you really have to see to

[75:48] believe. A Salem woman accidentally

[75:50] crashed into her own home. Donna Rivett

[75:53] was on her way home from shopping, and

[75:54] that's when fire investigators say she

[75:56] pulled up to her house, her foot

[75:57] slipped, the car went through the

[75:59] garage, and pushed into a washer and

[76:02] dryer, but fortunately no one was hurt.

[76:05] Another story getting a lot of hits

[76:06] involves a man who played Kramer on

[76:08] Seinfeld. Over the weekend, he called

[76:10] some hecklers at his comedy show in Los

[76:12] Angeles the N-word. And tonight we are

[76:14] hearing story for the very first time.

[76:16] He issued an apology on the Late Show

[76:18] with David Letterman.

[76:20] >> I'm I'm really busted up over this, and

[76:21] I'm I'm I'm very, very sorry.

[76:25] >> Michael Richards went on to say he lost

[76:26] his cool, and he says he's not a bigot.

[76:28] Fellow comedians denounced Richard's

[76:30] comments, including Jerry Seinfeld. And

[76:33] we here at Fox 12 were ahead of the game

[76:34] when we decided not to air the

[76:36] controversial O.J. Simpson interview

[76:37] scheduled on the Fox network for next

[76:39] week.

[76:40] It turns out the network has pulled the

[76:42] plug on the special and the book. News

[76:44] Corp, which owns the Fox network and has

[76:47] a stake in the book's publisher,

[76:48] announced today it would cancel the

[76:50] special and not sell the book. Fox 12

[76:52] had already made that decision and

[76:54] announced it this morning on Good Day

[76:56] Oregon. Fox 12 is not owned by News

[76:58] Corp. This station is owned by Meredith

[77:00] Broadcasting, which is based in Iowa. Be

[77:03] sure to stop by kptv.com for more on

[77:04] these stories and all the news and

[77:06] weather information you need to get

[77:07] through the day.

[77:10] >> Now, you might question what you need to

[77:12] know before you go to sleep tonight.

[77:13] Well, the Edge has all your answers. The

[77:14] TSA wants to remind you about some

[77:16] changes at the airport since your last

[77:18] flight. As millions of people take to

[77:20] the skies for Thanksgiving, the TSA's

[77:22] urging passengers to know these numbers.

[77:24] You ready? 3 1 1. That stands for 3-oz

[77:28] containers that you're allowed for

[77:30] liquids and gels in a 1-qt sized clear

[77:33] plastic bag, all inside your one allowed

[77:36] carry-on bag. Locally, PDX suggests that

[77:39] you arrive 24 hour or rather 2 hours

[77:41] before your flight leaves. And if you're

[77:42] picking somebody up, you might want to

[77:43] consider using the cell phone waiting

[77:46] lot.

[77:47] The holiday season could be very bright

[77:48] for some job seekers. State economists

[77:50] think that Oregon could add as many as

[77:52] 12,000 jobs in seasonal hiring, and that

[77:55] is up nearly 4 and 1/2% from last year.

[77:58] Retail stores will do most of the

[77:59] hiring, but some other industries to

[78:01] consider if you're job hunting include

[78:03] Christmas tree farms, the post office,

[78:05] couriers and messengers, or winter

[78:07] sports areas.

[78:09] First, Walmart. Now, Target. The

[78:11] discount retailer announced today that

[78:12] it, too, would begin selling generic

[78:14] prescription drugs for just four bucks.

[78:17] The discount is effective immediately

[78:19] and applies to all of Target's 1,200

[78:21] pharmacies nationwide. Walmart offers

[78:24] that same discount.

[78:28] >> Hollywood is buzzing about rumors that

[78:30] Angelina Jolie is warning Jennifer

[78:32] Aniston to stay away from her man.

[78:34] According to Life & Style Weekly,

[78:36] Jennifer wants to work with her

[78:37] ex-husband Brad Pitt on a film project

[78:40] and Angelina isn't so happy about it.

[78:42] Reports have claimed that Pitt has been

[78:44] trying to contact Jen for months through

[78:45] their reps to see if they could work

[78:47] together. The magazine claims Angelina

[78:49] has forbidden Brad from having any

[78:51] contact with Aniston. Jennifer's rep

[78:53] denies the whole thing saying she

[78:55] doesn't want to work with Pitt at all.

[78:57] There is an unlikely new feud in

[78:59] Hollywood, Kelly Ripa versus Clay Aiken.

[79:02] Aiken co-hosted with Ripa on Live with

[79:04] Regis and Kelly on Friday and it didn't

[79:05] go well. On today's show the normally

[79:08] chipper Ripa called the American Idol

[79:10] star disrespectful and hostile. She was

[79:12] especially offended when the singer

[79:14] covered up her mouth with his hands

[79:16] during an interview. Regis suggested it

[79:18] was all in fun. Apparently Ripa was not

[79:20] amused.

[83:48] >> Welcome back everybody. The Spurs

[83:49] brought their perfect 5-0 road record

[83:51] into Portland tonight with the Blazers

[83:53] gave them all they could handle.

[83:55] Portland manhandled them early in this

[83:57] game and it was a beautiful thing.

[83:58] That's Ime Udoka with the block and it

[84:00] leads to a LaMarcus Aldridge dunk. Zach

[84:03] Randolph owned them in the first half

[84:04] also, the rebound and then the bank shot

[84:07] put Portland up 25-20. Zibo had 19

[84:10] points in the first half, does it again,

[84:12] and the Blazers would lead by eight at

[84:14] halftime. But, then Randolph goes a

[84:16] little cold, scores just four points in

[84:18] part two. That's Aldridge mopping up his

[84:20] mess there and then late third quarter,

[84:22] the Spurs retake the lead. Tim Duncan

[84:24] scored 25 points. It was 74-72 Spurs.

[84:28] Still a close game, but Manu Ginobili

[84:30] opens up a 96-92 lead after he gets

[84:33] fouled and scores. He had 25 as well.

[84:36] They beat the Blazers 107-98. But, there

[84:38] is consolation in this one. The Blazers

[84:40] sticking with one of the league's best

[84:41] most of the night, right, coach?

[84:44] >> Yes, it was a good effort. Uh

[84:47] but

[84:48] you know, you you want that effort in

[84:50] the W at the same time. And uh the

[84:52] effort was there, but the W

[84:54] uh we didn't get.

[84:56] >> They have a lot of weapons that can hit

[84:57] you in a lot of ways. So, if one guy's

[84:58] not on, then, you know, they can go to

[85:00] another guy.

[85:02] >> And that they did. Hey, the Ducks on the

[85:03] road tonight looking to remain perfect,

[85:05] 5 and 0 against the Rice Owls. And man

[85:08] alive, a wild finish in this one. Oregon

[85:10] trailed by 10 late in the game, but

[85:12] Aaron Brooks pulled them within two

[85:13] right there. Te "Juan" Porter came up

[85:15] huge to his three-pointer sent it to

[85:18] overtime, tied 66 all. Brooks scored 22

[85:21] of his 30 in the second half. Gives him

[85:23] the lead in OT there. And then a three

[85:25] by Marty Leunen coming up would ice it,

[85:27] and the Ducks stay undefeated. They win

[85:29] it 79-73.

[85:31] Ken Bone's PSU team had a big night,

[85:33] their highest-scoring game in 6 years

[85:36] against Evergreen State. Julius Thomas

[85:38] scored 11 of those points. They also hit

[85:40] nine three-pointers. Dupree Lucas doing

[85:43] it right here, and the Vikings win big,

[85:45] 95-76.

[85:46] And NFL tonight, the Giants at

[85:48] Jacksonville. The Jaguars getting it

[85:50] done on the ground, scored two

[85:52] touchdowns with the run. And that was

[85:54] Fred Taylor doing it there. And then in

[85:56] the fourth, Maurice Jones-Drew punches

[85:59] it in. The Giants, well, they lose their

[86:00] second straight, 26-10. Big

[86:02] disappointment for them after winning

[86:04] five in a row.

[86:05] >> Yep, okay. Thanks, Tim.

[86:06] >> All right, one last look at the weather

[86:07] before we go.

[86:08] >> Uh 7-day forecast, we'll take a look.

[86:09] It's not too tough to figure out. Lots

[86:11] of rain in there, huh?

[86:11] >> [laughter]

[86:12] >> Uh but it'll be a colder rain than what

[86:13] we had earlier in the month. So, lots of

[86:15] mountain snow.
