[0:00] Hello, I'm John Roberts and welcome to
[0:01] the CBS Evening News online edition.
[0:04] Just ahead, Hurricane Rita slams the
[0:06] Florida Keys. Mark Stman's got the
[0:08] latest on the storm and where it may be
[0:10] headed. It could turn into another
[0:12] category 4 storm. Also, the Gulf Coast's
[0:15] barrier islands were battered by
[0:17] Katrina. We'll take a look at whether or
[0:19] not they'll be rebuilt. And you'll meet
[0:21] a man who is using a higher power to

[0:26] starting now on the CBS Evening News
[0:29] online edition.

[0:48] 100 miles an hour before heading into
[0:50] the Gulf of Mexico. By tomorrow, Rita
[0:53] could reach category 4 with winds above
[0:56] 131 miles an hour. It's now projected to
[0:59] reach Texas later in the week, including
[1:01] areas now housing thousands of people
[1:04] relocated after Katrina. Mark Stman in
[1:07] the Florida Keys begins our coverage
[1:09] tonight.
[1:13] With its winds and lashing rains, Rita
[1:16] bullied the Florida Keys. In stretches,
[1:18] the landscape seemed to cower. US1. The
[1:21] two-lane lifeline to the mainland washed
[1:24] away in a halfozen places. Low-lying
