[0:03] From ABC, this is World News Tonight

[0:06] with Barry Sarapin in Iran, Max Robinson

[0:09] in Chicago, Barbara Walters with an

[0:12] exclusive interview with British Prime

[0:13] Minister Margaret Thatcher. And from our

[0:16] desk in Washington, Frank Reynolds.

[0:18] >> Good evening. On the 44th day of

[0:20] captivity for Americans in Tehran, the

[0:23] major news tonight is the continuing

[0:24] major disagreement between the foreign

[0:26] minister, who has indicated some of the

[0:28] hostages might soon be released, and the

[0:31] militants at the embassy, who continue

[0:33] to insist all the hostages must be put

[0:35] on trial as spies. For the latest from

[0:37] Thran, here is Barry Sarapin.

[0:40] Here in Iran tonight, government

[0:42] officials disclose more details about

[0:44] their plans for so-called grand jury

[0:46] proceedings to indict the former Shaw

[0:48] and the United States. Beyond those

[0:50] proceedings, there continue to be mixed

[0:52] and unclear signals about what will

[0:54] happen to the hostages. Jack Smith

[0:56] reports.

[0:58] >> Iranian foreign minister Sidecay tonight

[1:01] cleared up two points. First, Iran will

[1:04] try to call an international grand jury

[1:06] to air its grievances against the United

[1:09] States and the deposed sha. There'll

[1:11] probably be 24 jurors, but the

[1:13] invitations haven't yet gone out. The

[1:16] hostages will be called, but only as

[1:18] witnesses. Second, the hostages are at

[1:21] last going to be allowed some visitors

[1:24] to stand there to be clerics only

[1:26] >> because uh they have to do the religious

[1:28] ceremonies as well.

[1:29] >> From all over the world, huh? from all

[1:31] over the world, one from Europe, from

[1:33] one from the Unit
