[0:00] economy. Americans react to Friday's

[0:02] shock. What's next?

[0:05] And high anxiety over a life or death

[0:08] stunt. Why do they do it?

[0:14] From NBC News World Headquarters in New

[0:17] York, this is NBC Nightly News with

[0:21] Lester Halt.

[0:23] >> Good evening. One of the more remarkable

[0:25] presidential nominating contests in this

[0:27] country's history came to an end today.

[0:29] As anticipated, Hillary Clinton closed

[0:31] out her campaign, telling a crowd of

[0:33] family, staff, friends, and other

[0:35] supporters that she wants them to join

[0:37] her in now supporting Barack Obama for

[1:01] odd to hear Hillary Clinton endorsed

[1:03] Barack Obama, who she fought so long and

[1:05] so hard to defeat, but her endorsement

[1:07] did sound sincere and enthusiastic. Her

[1:10] remarks today were at times very candid

[1:12] and very personal, especially when she

[1:13] talked about being a woman running for

[1:15] president, as she tried to put an

[1:16] exclamation point, not just a period, at

[1:19] the end of her campaign. This isn't

[1:22] exactly the party I planned, but I sure

[1:24] like the company.

[1:26] >> Several thousand people who now think of

[1:27] themselves as Hillary Clinton Democrats

[1:30] filled one of Washington's most
