[0:23] >> Good evening. We begin tonight with some
[0:25] very blunt advice from the president of
[0:27] China to the United Nations in general
[0:29] and the United States in particular.
[0:31] What happens inside China is none of
[0:33] your business. In his 5 minutes of
[0:35] speech time before the UN today, the
[0:37] Chinese leader Jang Zamin said that
[0:39] others should not use the excuses of
[0:41] freedom, democracy, and human rights to
[0:44] interfere in the internal affairs of
[0:46] others. And a few hours later, Jang
[0:48] Zamin had the opportunity to make the
[0:50] point in person to President Clinton. In
[0:52] New York, here's ABC's Brit Hume.
[0:56] >> President Clinton was hoping to smooth a
[0:58] relationship that has not been the same
[1:00] since the president of Taiwan was
[1:02] allowed by the US last June to speak at
[1:04] Cornell University, his alma mater.
[1:06] Beijing did not like that. And earlier
[1:08] today at the UN, the Chinese president
[1:10] reminded the world why
[1:12] >> there's only one China in the world, and
[1:14] Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese
[1:17] territory. The government of the
[1:18] People's Republic of China is China's
[1:20] sole legal government and its sole
[1:23] representative in the United Nations.
