[0:03] Three battles, rear, main, and deep. The

[0:08] rear battle has begun. That is the first

[0:10] part of the battle. The main force has

[0:13] not yet started its great sweep across

[0:15] southern Iraq. And so far as we know,

[0:17] the deep battle, which would first

[0:19] include the airborne units, has not yet

[0:21] begun. Let's go to David Martin at the

[0:23] Pentagon. Dan, I think it's uh safe to

[0:26] say now that the uh the flanking

[0:28] movement has begun. And I've had uh

[0:31] confirmed to me that uh one of the lead

[0:33] divisions in this uh uh giant sweep is

[0:36] the 24th Infantry Division. Uh and it's

[0:40] going to go quite far into Iraq. I think

[0:42] exactly how far will depend on uh uh

[0:45] exactly what kind of resistance they

[0:47] meet. Uh the 24th Infantry Division, for

[0:50] people who uh do not usually uh keep a

[0:52] breast of what's in a division, uh

[0:55] contains 16,500 men and 290 uh M1 A1

[1:00] tanks plus another 270 Bradley infantry

[1:03] fighting vehicles. Uh it's a

[1:05] considerable force and that's just one

[1:07] of the lead divisions. My understanding

[1:09] is that this operation that we would all

[1:13] think of as the ground offensive has

[1:16] been underway now for about 2 hours uh

[1:19] starting at roughly uh 8:00 p.m. Eastern

[1:22] time. Although when this whole operation

[1:25] is dissected, I think we will see that

[1:27] there was a lot of uh crossber

[1:30] operations before that. Uh but in terms

[1:33] of sort of the go order and people

[1:35] starting to race across the desert, it

[1:38] looks like uh 8:00 was the uh the real

[1:41] start time for this operation.
